I stood in Callie's room.
"I hope you weren't too fond of those three losers."
I smiled at her.
"You trusted your judgment. That was good."
"You should've seen the look on Drake's face. You would've loved it. I think."
"Hi. I'm Dr. Park."
I turned around.
"Are you Jamie?"
"Yes."
"Um... How much longer does she have to be in this coma?" I questioned.
"Well, there's still swelling in her brain and spine."
"Her spine?"
"The bullet nicked it. She needs surgery. The longer we wait, the greater chance she'll be paralyzed from the waist down."
"Well, then you should do it, right?"
"No surgery is without risk. And in her condition, the risks are much higher. We can't guarantee she'll come through it."
"So... Who decides what to do?"
"Her Dad, her mothers, and her siblings said they didn't wanna make the call. So, according to her advanced health care directive, the decision falls to her second choice. Which is you."
"Me?"
I stared at him.
Dr. Park's phone vibrated.
"Uh... Excuse me."
He walked out.
I looked at Callie laying in the hospital bed.
I grabbed my phone off the chair.
I walked out of the room.
I was in the hallway.
"Hey. It's me. Is Dad there too?"
"Yeah."
"No. I'm... I'm not okay. Can you come see me? I need your help."
