"I don't know about this, Din," you whispered while picking nervously at the hem of your shirt. You had been dating Din Djarin for a while now, and ever since the existence of other Mandalorians was beginning to be revealed, Din was inclined to introduce you to his 'family.' The thought of that made you increasingly uncomfortable as the days passed. You weren't apart of the Mandalorian creed. You were simply a Twi'lek who managed to catch Din's eye.
Din placed his hand comfortably on your shoulder and gave you a soft squeeze, "You'll simply have to prove yourself to them. I will do anything we can to help you out."
This was an ironic statement considering Din had never thought about introducing you to the creed until now. Even Din's adoptive son, who was being trained by the Jedi, had been introduced to his people.
Yeah, the kid had been introduced to Din's creed even before you had. You didn't mind though; frankly, you didn't want to be introduced to the Mandalorians ever,
"I appreciate it, honey," you replied while leaning your head into his helmet, "Hopefully they'll just like me off the bat and I won't have to prove anything to them."
Din snorted which caused you to laugh as well. Yeah right. After what the Empire had done to the Mandalorians, they weren't inclined to trust. You didn't blame them for that either— you'd have trust issues too if a government power overtook your planet by force,
"We're here," your boyfriend said while turning a corner. The two of you had parked the ship a good distance away from where the Mandalorians were hiding just in case you were being followed. It wouldn't have surprised either of you. Despite the public defeat of the Empire, remnants of the organization still plagued the galaxy. A lot of them were after the Mandalorians too even after all this time.
You shuddered as you noticed a person in similar armour to Din's staring at the two of you, "Djarin!" the person, a female, yelled while glaring at us through her lavender helmet, "Who is this and why have you brought her here?"
"I request a word with the Armourer!" Din yelled without answering the curious Mandalorian's question. It was none of her business after all, "I need her in regards for (Y/N) here."
The Mandalorian eyed you as you approached, and you suddenly felt self conscious over everything. Your lack of armour was a huge insecurity at the moment... also the fact that you're a Twi'lek instead of a human. Din had told you numerous times that the Mandalorian Creed wasn't just one race; instead it was many. That didn't make you feel any better, though.
The Mandalorian stepped in front of you and Din; blocking the two of you from entering the cave, "No outsiders are allowed inside. You know this."
You could tell that Din was beginning to get aggravated with this female Mandalorian, but before he could express his anger towards her, a burly Mandalorian in blue beskar walked from the cave. He had a smaller Mandalorian by his side; her armour a brown, copper colour, and she had large copper spikes coming from her helmet,
"Who is this?" the female in the brown beskar asked; the blue beskar Mandalorian stepping beside the originating guard while staring daggers at you.
"This is (Y/N)," Din responded immediately without looking intimidated by their presence. It became increasingly-obvious that the woman was the Armourer. The man was still unknown to you.
The woman glanced at you, as if she could see inside your very soul, "Din has spoken about you before. I was expecting someone alike to us to have been chosen by our friend here."
You dipped your head respectfully and licked your lips nervously, "It's an honour to meet you. And yes, I expected someone else to be chosen by Din, but for some reason, he figured I'm important enough to keep around."
The bigger man chuckled, which filled you with some reassurance. Din stepped forward after a few moments of silence from the Armourer and placed his hand on your shoulder, "How can she gain your trust? I wish to bring her into the Creed— I wish to invite her to become a Mandalorian."
You stared up at your boyfriend in shock. You weren't expecting that for sure! Most you anticipated from Din was an introduction to his family, then the two of you would fly away into the stars; occasionally returning if the creed needed him.
"No one can just join the Creed," the blue beskar said in annoyance, "Does she even know how to fight? We are a very self-sufficient people, and we can't have newcomers dragging us down."
Before Din or you could snap back, defending your honour, the Armourer rose her hands. The clearing went silent. Even the Mandalorian younglings were still,
"If Din Djarin wishes to invite (Y/N) (L/N) into the Creed, then she must prove herself in combat!"
The Armourer stepped forward and grabbed yours and blue beskar's hands. She dragged you and the man down to the unmoving water. Everything was silent,
"(Y/N) (L/N) will fight Paz Vizla using everything she has in her arsenal. If she can successfully defeat Vizla in battle, she will then embark on the path of the Mandalorian!"
No one responded to the Armourer's words. Paz however, stepped forward; and with his fist on his chest, bowed slightly towards you, "This is the way."
"This is the way!"
Everyone in the clearing echoed Paz, including your boyfriend.
This was not what you wanted! You glanced back at Din, and all he could do was nod reassuringly at you. Of course, you couldn't expect him to step in and help you out... but, although you understood the importance of this event, you couldn't help but wonder if you even wanted to join the creed.
You loved Din enough to at least try. And, you might have a good shot at winning this little contest, even when you're up against the giant that is Paz Vizla.
"Begin!" the Armourer announced while clasping her hands together and stepping back to give you and the Mandalorian some room to fight.
You learned very quickly that Paz was an assertive and offensive fighter. He didn't even wait for you to move before he lunged into combat. This wasn't a fight to the death, so he wasn't bearing his vibroblade or his automatic blaster.
The large man raced in your direction. Although he weighed an insane amount more than you, he was still fast. Yet, you were faster.
As Paz came close enough to grab you by the lekkus, you lunged downwards and scattered behind him. The Mandalorian wasn't expecting such a move, but that came to your advantage. You'd sparred against Din before, so you knew a little bit about what it's like to fight against a Mandalorian. Paz likely has never fought with anyone like you before.
Using your slim leg, you cut underneath the heavyset Mandalorian and swept his feet out from below him. Paz clattered to the ground with a huff. It was obvious that his sheer muscle and the weight of his armour was holding him back from his true potential, but yet again, this was good for you.
Paz grunted in annoyance as he rose back to his feet, "You'll never be a Mandalorian, head tails. I'll see to it that you and Djarin both never return to this place!"
You were shocked at Paz's statement. Tail heads? Getting rid of you and Din? You thought Paz was loyal to both the Armourer and the Mandalorian Creed, yet he says this! Din is the rightful leader of Mandalore because he obtained the darksaber from Moff Gideon, and this is the respect he gets?
You felt your anger fester. Perhaps this is what Paz wanted in order for you to weaken. Words are powerful, but action is more powerful.
Racing towards the tower of a man as he rose back to his feet from the ground, you gracefully leapt over his shoulders and landed behind him. Paz gasped and attempted to whip around, but you were much faster.
While Paz tried to snatch your lekku in his hands to counter your speed, you continued leaping in and out of his grip. You could tell Paz was beginning to get both angered and embarrassed over the fact that he couldn't stop you and all of his friends were watching,
"I'll kill you and Din myself! I'll win the darksaber for myself and crown the Armourer and I the rightful leaders of Mandalore! Djarin is an embarrassment to his people for bringing a Twi'lek into the bloodline as a Mandalorian leader! I won't allow it!"
That was it.
You tried to be reasonable and ignore Paz's ignorant way of thinking, but that was all you could take.
"You talk to much!" you spat while jumping behind him once more. This time, you didn't tease him or continue jumping around aimlessly to tire him out. Instead, you grabbed his vibroblade from his belt and held it up to his neck.
The entire creed went completely silent; their cheers for Paz immediately being snuffed out by your unexpected move. Then, as Paz rose his hands up in surrender, the Mandalorians began to cheer,
"What?" you whispered to yourself as Paz lowered himself down to his knees over the fear that you might cut his throat with that dangerous weapon, "Why are they cheering?"
Paz grunted in annoyance as the Armourer walked over, "Despite them being loyal to me and the rest of the creed, you won. They are celebrating your victory even though I am in danger."
You quickly lowered the weapon and threw it across the clearing. You were disgusted by your actions against Paz in this duel, but you wouldn't take the slander he was directing towards your boyfriend.
The Armourer walked over as Paz got back to his feet again. The woman grabbed your arm and thrusted it into the air,
"We have our winner. (Y/N) (L/N) has proven herself against one of Mandalore's most ruthless and talented fighters. She may now decide to join our creed as a Mandalorian, or leave this place and never return."
You bowed graciously as the Mandalorians beat on their chest plates. Even Paz was celebrating your victory which was surprising considering his words earlier. Perhaps his intentions that he was showing you earlier were merely a façade in order to anger you and make your strong side appear. Regardless, he was over it now, and was happy to celebrate your victory and welcome you into the Mandalorian Creed.
"I graciously accept you and your peoples' offer into the Mandalorian clan," you said while bowing your head at the Armourer, "I will follow Din Djarin to the end of the galaxy and back. Becoming one of you will greatly assist in that promise I have made to him."
The Armourer nodded, obviously pleased by my words, "You must know that once you accept the creed into your heart and you wear the helmet that signifies your commitment to the creed, you will never be able to show your face again. Not even Djarin will see you again."
That wasn't an issue. You'd only seen your boyfriend's face once when he had said goodbye to his foundling, but you were in love with who he was. The appearance was not what was important to either of you— you were soul bonded.
"I will take the creed to my name. I will be Mandalorian," you responded firmly; the risk of never revealing your face again not bothering you at all.
"This is the way!" the Armourer said; the rest of the creed echoing her words.
"This is the way."
