Love has been a lesson,
one that I've
struggled to learn,
and I've never
tended a fire
that continued to burn,
for this heart
has been bewildered,
abandoned, and betrayed
by those who walked away
after they promised
they would stay,
and it is for this very reason
that I constructed
these walls,
a brick-by-brick construction
that I hope will
never again fall.
