SUMMARY : After the Battle for Kamino, Fives and Echo wander around the wrecked city but stumble upon a hidden Kaminoan secret
NOTES : I apologize for any grammatical errors
Kamino was left in tatters after the separatists' attack. No one wanted to admit it, but they were all caught off guard, and shaken by the brutal assault. Kamino always seemed so untouchable to the clones, so to see it in tatters felt so unreal. Sectors of the city were still on fire, a tad infuriating since ninety percent of the time the planet was storming profusely, and this would be the only time the weather would be beneficial. Blaster marks went on to decorate the walls of the facilities, debris was scattered all over the place taking out bridges, with remaining Separatist assault craft littered among roofs and landing docs.
Like many other legions that joined in the fight to protect their home, the 501st volunteered to stay behind to help with clean up. Although the 501st didn’t have that much of a break before their next battle they all unanimously voted to spend their off time on Kamino.
Torrent Company was spread all over the city. Kix worked with the other medics in a makeshift medical tent attending to all the wounded. Jesse and Hardcase helped clean up debris on landing docs to make room for more aid to arrive. Rex was with Cody, alongside General Kenobi and Skywalker talking about future defense protocols for the city, and preparing for takeoff.
That left Echo and Fives to roam the halls of the training facilities, looking for any survivors in the wreckage. The chances of finding survivors were slim, but that didn’t stop the newly promoted ARC Troopers from searching anyways.
The two domino twins found themselves on one of the lower levels of Kamino with the hallways still glowing red, dead droids scattered throughout, with the only noise to be heard was the synchronized footsteps of the ARC Troopers.
“How much time do we have left?” Fives asked, breaking the silence between the two of them.
“About two hours left before take-off,” Echo stated as he met Five's eyes “we should actually start making our way back to the Resolute now, we don’t want to be left behind after all,” he said the last part with a laugh.
Fives couldn’t help but smirk “Yeah we know just how devastated the Captain would be to hear that”.
Ever since Commander Cody promoted them to ARC Troopers Rex’s stress seemed to have doubled. Rex can usually handle one hyperenergetic cocky dumbass (aka Fives), but now there are two of them and it’s proved to be too much for the poor Captain to handle.
They knew they were in no real danger though, they saw the smile that formed on the Captain's face after giving them the news.
“I don’t think anyone's down here,” Echos said solemnly, mind now back on the mission “ we would have seen a body or two by now.”
“We have to keep looking,” Fives kept looking forward, “there are obviously droids on this floor so if a fight went down, we have to look, there might be someone …”
They had been through three floors before this one, within the first two minutes they had retrieved three fallen brothers, and collected their helmets to add to the wall which was gonna act as a memorial for the fallen. They haven't found a single brother alive yet and their hope was fading.
So many brothers lost , Fives thought.
99, Gone.
“Besides, I feel good about this one,” Fives blurted out a smile creeping onto his face.
“Whatever you say, Fives, always the optimist.”
The two continued their walk until they reached a door, which caused Echo to force Fives to a stop.
Fives turned his head to face his brother “Why did we stop?”
“We have to go back,” Echo replied a little too quickly for Fives' liking. It almost sounded as if he was concerned or scared of something.
“What why,” Fives spat out.
“Don’t you know what this is?” Echo said frantically with both hands dramatically gesturing to the door in front of them.
“Uhhhh a door, an open door, as a matter of fact, come on Echo I thought you were the smart one”
“This is the Kaminoans restricted area, we can’t be seen here
“Woah,” Five’s eyes widened at the sight in front of them. Every young cadet has heard of the legendary “Restricted Area” that lied hidden within the walls of Kamino. Sure clones were not allowed in most places on Kamino, but this area was different. It was said to be an entire sector that was heavily guarded, and only a select few Kaminoans had access to the room or even knew of its existence. Some clones said the area was filled with crazy Kaminoan science experiments, others said it was a stronghold for deadly planet-destroying weapons, another theory said that behind the doors was the frozen head of Jango Fett. Every young cadet had a theory of what laid hidden in the “Restricted Area” but it only existed through word of mouth. No clone has ever seen it, but legend says during a training session a generation one clone overheard some Kaminoan scientists talk about being “granted access to the room” from that day forward young cadets have searched for the mysterious room.
It was real and it was right in front of them. The separatists must have invaded this area thinking it was the cloning room, not knowing it was one of the biggest secrets that was on Kamino.
Both of the clones looked at each other “You know what this means,” Fives said calmly.
Echo nodded
“We have to go inside!”
“We have to go.”
Fives takes a deep breath, he tries not to think about those what-ifs.
Footsteps brought Fives out of his deep thoughts, he turned to see where Echo went … only to find Echo was still right next to him.
They both straightened up and began rapidly scanning the area, looking for any sign of movement.
Echo grabbed Fives's arm and began to pull him “Fives let's go back, we have overstayed our welcome.”
“Yeah, yeah just a second,” he responded, eyes looking straight forward.
Fives would never admit it but he did start to feel a little creeped out. The only light source was the red emergency lights that were ignited during the separatist assault, and a Kaminoan could stumble upon them at any second, and they had no clearance whatsoever to be in there, and they had just heard movement, meaning they weren't alone.
The sound of a door opening and shutting caused both troopers to jump four feet in the air. Fives just barely managed to see out of the corner of his eye which door it was.
Fives pulled away from his brother and began to walk towards the door as one of his hands ghosted over his DC-15.
“Fives,” Echo warned him in his ‘Your about to do something really stupid, so you better stop’ tone.
“It could be a clanker” was all Fives responded with as he kept his slow pace towards the door.
Echo slowly made his way to Fives and whipped out his DC-17’s.
When Fives reached the door Echo went to Fives' right side guns ready, Fives had his hands on his blaster with his hand hovering over the button to open the door.
He took a deep breath in closing his eyes, then opened them as he exhaled.
He slammed the button and the door jolted open, without a second of hesitation, he pointed his blaster inside the room then …
Nothing.
Five’s eyes widened, and he dropped his blaster, for the first time ever Fives was speechless.
“What is it,” Echo began to panic, “Fives, what do you see?”
Fives didn’t look away.
“There's a kid in here.”
