It had been exactly a year since Order 66 was initiated by Darth Sideous. Everyday that passed by while Kanan Jarrus and I still lived in the world was a life of torture. A life of unknown. A life of betrayal. This wasn't what Kanan or I wanted, but we simply had no word in that. It was far too late for us to make changes, and we simply had to adapt to what the force required of us.
And what the force required of us was to live in hiding.
So that's exactly what we did. Kanan and I had fled to Naboo after his and my master were killed on Kaller by the Clones; the Clones who we and the rest of the Jedi Order cherished and respected.
We were young adults now, but we still felt like kids. We had been forced to grow up and mature too early.
On Naboo, there was a small Stormtrooper battalion that had been sent out because someone had caught sight of a couple of Jedi. Even if the Empire considering a claim like that to potentially be a prank, they weren't one to ignore something like that.
Fortunately for Kanan and I, we could sense them coming.
"Who snitched?" Kanan hissed while packing up his backpack, "No one has been formally told that we are Jedi? How did they find us?"
I placed my hand on his shoulder and squeezed; hopefully comforting him on some level, "It could've been a vision from Darth Vader telling him to check out Naboo. We can't jump to conclusions like that, and plus, we've taken out many Stormtroopers in our day. This is no different."
"What if the Empire sends Inquisitors?" Kanan asked while licking his dry lips in panic, "It's been a long time since either of us used our lightsabers. I don't think we could survive an attack like that."
"We can't keep running either, though," I countered while continuing to pack my bag despite my claim, "We've been running for far too long. We can't let our fear of the Sith and the Empire control us. That's exactly what Vader and the Emperor want."
My Jedi accompaniment sighed and dropped his bag to the ground. Kanan looked defeated... damaged. I can't remember a time in our life before where Kanan didn't have eye bags and a permanent look of sadness etched to his face. It was incredibly depressing, but I'm sure I looked the same, too. Order 66 ruined a lot for us, and I don't think either of us will recover,
"What are we supposed to do then?" Kanan asked in both an annoyed tone and a curious tone. He knew I didn't have an answer, and we would have to flee Naboo and find another home.
This was getting too repetitive for me. I need structure. I want Kanan and myself to live in peace and not worry about being murdered by the Empire every day of our lives.
I looked down at the backpack; my eyes latching to the lightsaber I had neglected for so long. It called out to me through the force, and suddenly, I had the temptation to pick it up,
"We have two options, really," I said, wrapping my hand around the ancient blade, "We run again, and who knows how long we will be on the run before we find a suitable place. Or, we can fight and stay on Naboo."
Naboo had been the best place that Kanan and I had stayed on. It had fresh water, kind locals, and abundant food that grew in majestic gardens. Naboo was perfect for what we needed, and after this conversation with Kanan, I felt confident enough to fight for Naboo.
"Really?" Kanan asked in absolute shock. Normally, I would be totally against us showing ourselves, especially since the Empire could only here to simply patrol. Kanan must've thought this was some kind of joke.
"Really," I confirmed, "I know we are quite rusty, but we can't keep running. What is the point of life if all we do is flee? That's not a life I want to live anymore."
A smile rose to Kanan's lips as he spun around and dug through his own backpack to retrieve his abandoned lightsaber, "Thank the force you decided to change your mind. I believe we can run the Empire away from Naboo if we work together."
"I love the enthusiasm, Jarrus," I smirked while attaching my once-forgotten lightsaber to my belt, "They'll be landing soon. We can get a jump on them because they probably have no idea we know they're coming. They won't expect an attack from us right off the bat."
Kanan nodded his head eagerly, "Even if they sense us nearby if they brought Inquisitors, they still wouldn't anticipate an attack. They're used to our people living in the shadows. That is a false sense of security on their part... let's go."
I felt very giddy at this moment, like something inside me was finally willing to fight back against the people who took everything away from Kanan and I. This was building up for over a year now, so to actually let those feelings out would be therapeutic. None of the Empire would escape Naboo... I will kill them all.
The Jedi Code doesn't exist anymore, so I shouldn't pretend that it does.
These people have threatened my family for far too long, and I'm done playing along.
We could sense where the air carrier was going to land. It wasn't too far away from where we were held up, so we decided to head there right away. Kanan and I made it to the landing sight right on time.
The door on the Imperial shuttle cracked open and out came dozens of Stormtroopers. It was nothing Kanan and I couldn't handle— the real risk was the Inquisitor that got off the ship too. I could feel my skin crawling as she peered around the clearing,
"Find Kanan Jarrus and (Y/N) (L/N). Bring them to me immediately! I want them alive!"
"Don't worry about that, Inquisitor!" I shouted while stepping into the clearing; my (F/C) lightsaber cutting through the darkness of the night, "We're right here!"
I could sense the Sith's smirk underneath her mask, "I have to admit, I didn't expect you two to be bold. You're stupider than you look."
"Stop with the words! Let's fight!" Kanan said while lunging into the crowd; slashing Stormtroopers left and right. I knew Kanan held a lot of hatred towards the Stormtroopers after what had happened to our masters on Kaller, but to see it personally was a new experience.
While Kanan handled the Stormtroopers, I jumped into combat with the Inquisitor. The Inquisitor was anxiously shouting at her troopers to turn their blasters on stun because she wanted to personally deal with us. While she was focusing on getting her troopers to listen to her, I caught her off guard.
I tackled the woman to the ground.
The Inquisitor fell backwards and staggered to the ground; completely unexpecting the attack. My lightsaber barely missed her throat as she kicked me off her. I landed on my feet as a cat would, and the Inquisitor quickly got onto hers,
"I didn't expect a Jedi to play dirty like that."
"I'm no Jedi," I snapped back while lunging towards the Inquisitor.
Under normal circumstances, if I claimed I wasn't a Jedi, it was because I was in hiding. It would be because I needed to keep Kanan and I safe by hiding without the worry of being murdered by the Empire.
Now, when I say I'm not a Jedi, it's because I have gone beyond the Order. I am simply (Y/N), and I have one goal.
Keep Kanan and I safe no matter how. Even if violence was required, I wouldn't stoop to the Jedi's level regarding peace. I will do whatever is necessary.
The Inquisitor staggered back, obviously not expecting an answer like that. I looked over my shoulder at my Jedi accompaniment and smirked as he took down every Stormtrooper that tried to best him, regardless if they were using stun or not.
Knowing Kanan was okay, I was able to focus my attention back on the Sith Lord,
"Still willing to fight us?" I asked in a taunting manner, "My friend here has your forces thinned out, and I'll have no trouble handling you."
"Save the talk for when you actually can prove it. You've been out of practice for over a year. I don't buy it," the woman commented back while twisting her double-bladed lightsaber in her hand, "Prove it to me."
I nodded and lunged forward. The Inquisitor was expecting this for sure, and parried my attack back into me. I fell back with heavy force and glared. The Inquisitor moved faster than what the naked eye could see, and before I knew it, she had me pinned to the body of her ship. I grunted and growled; attempting to push her off of me with both the force and my lightsaber combined,
"You won't win this!" I snarled as her hand reached my throat; my airway beginning to get cut off, "Even if Kanan and I die here, there are countless Jedi in the galaxy that won't let you and the Empire win!"
"We will cross that bridge when we get there," the Inquisitor rebuttaled while beginning to squeeze.
Despite my expert agility and strength, I was not able to push the Inquisitor off me. She was right— I was out of training and I wasn't used to the whole ordeal of battle anymore. This made me weak, and being weak meant death.
My eyes began to unfocus and turn black. My lungs were screaming for air— begging for oxygen. Right as I was beginning to pass out, the force suddenly disappeared.
I gasped as if the air on Naboo was just what I needed to survive; as it in fact was. What happened? Why am I still alive?
I looked down as my vision began to return, and saw the mountains of Stormtrooper corpses, alongside the unmoving body of the Inquisitor. Kanan was standing in front of me, gasping for air. There was a mix of sweat and blood coating his face.
"I can't believe we actually won," he said while sheathing his lightsaber; his chest heaving with exhaustion.
Without a single word, I sheathed my lightsaber, placed it on my belt, and speed walked right over to Kanan. I wrapped my arms around him as if to hug him, but instead of stopping with just a hug, I smashed my lips to his.
Kanan wrapped his arms around my body as well and began deepening the kiss by pulling me into his body as close as he could.
It was as if all of the galaxy's unexplained questions had been answered. Kanan's kiss was the answer to all of my questions. He was just what I needed to feel alive again. He made all of the suffering we had gone through together and alone worth it.
Stepping back, I laid my head against his chest and just focused on my breathing. It still hadn't sunk in... what we had managed to accomplish...
"We don't have to run anymore," I finally said after a few moments of comfortable silence, "We can really stay on Naboo for good now."
"I'm not one to resort to violence, but that had to be done," the Jedi responded while stroking my hair.
I felt completely at home now in Kanan's arms. There was one problem, though,
"When that Inquisitor and the battalion of Stormtroopers don't check back in with the Death Star, they might send Vader next time. I don't think we could win that fight."
"We will cross that bridge when we get there," he replied, pressing a kiss to my forehead, "Until then, let's celebrate this victory."
