There was a lot of pain in my whole body. Maybe I was hungover, but then blurred memories came back in my mind.
I keep hearing this beeping noise which is aggravating. I open my eyes to see I was in a white room.
To be specific, I was in a hospital room. I look over to see my mom sitting on the recliner.
"What happened?" I rasp towards her. She rushed over towards me, pain and worry on her face.
"You're okay honey. You just have a broken arm, a few broken ribs and a mild concussion." That explains why everything hurts.
I looked around to see if my dad and Amelia are here too, but they're not. "They're down at the cafeteria with Seth." It's like she was reading my mind.
"Why am I here?" I asked trying to remember. She sighed before speaking. "You and Colby got into an argument." She spoke.
"Seth said you stepped into the road right as a car turned the corner." So I was hit by a car.
That explains the broken bones and the pain. Where is Colby? "Has he been here?" I wanna talk to him and apologize for the fight.
"Seth said he wouldn't let him in. We got here a couple hours later." She explained. I just nodded as a couple nurses came into my room.
They started asking me questions, mainly to see how much I remember. I guess during that time, my mom texted my dad to let them know I was awake.
Right as the nurses were leaving, my dad and Amelia walked in. I could tell how worried they all are.
My mom said she was going to get food so they could get time with me. My dad was angry at first, mainly at Colby.
Since Seth told them we were arguing, my dad was saying it was Colby's fault. I had calmed him down though because I told him it was mine.
I could tell Amelia hated seeing me like this, which made me feel so bad knowing she looks up to me.
As we sat there and talked, I looked over and saw Seth walking into the doorway. He looks exhausted.
He had dark circles under his eyes. I wonder if he's the only one here. My dad and Amelia said they were going to give us space so they both left.
He came over and sat down where my dad was. "Hey, how're you feeling?" He asked softly.
I breathe out while thinking of an answer. "I could be better." I shrug towards him.
It was quiet for a moment. "What happened last night?" Seth was there so I know he'll tell me what happened after I was hit.
He explained that he watched the of us argue just in case he tried anything else and he saw the car hit me.
He instantly ran over to the scene and dialed 911 while Sam talked to the guy that hit me.
He said that Colby stood there in shock for a moment, and then couldn't find him.
Sam's been looking for him and the girls have been here off and on.
Seth said he wanted to stay to give updates and he would feel bad if he left knowing he saw everything happen.
I could tell that this has affected him. This wouldn't have happened if I didn't chase Colby.
Hell, it wouldn't have happened if Brad didn't show up. "My mom said he showed up." He nodded his head towards me.
"He showed up before your parents did. I told him to get away and it wouldn't be good if you saw him when you woke."
I can see where he was coming from. The doctor ended up coming in and explaining how he wants me to stay overnight just to be sure.
They want to make sure my concussion is fully better until they can release me, which I totally understand.
My family eventually came back and told me they contacted all my professors. Apparently word got around and they already know.
They told me to not come back until the doctor said I was fully healed, which made total sense.
I spent the next day and a half at the hospital. Everyone came to visit me and see how I was doing.
Everyone except for Colby. They all said that they're extremely happy that I'm not too seriously hurt.
The next day, I was able to leave the hospital. My parents were very hesitant to leave me but everyone said they promised to take care of me.
A few days go by and I haven't heard anything from Colby. I decided to head to the frat house to see if he's hiding out here.
When I walked in, Sam was sitting on the couch and doing work. He looked surprised to see me here.
"Hey, I didn't know you were coming." He admitted while sitting up a little.
"I was actually looking for Colby. I wanted to talk to him." I admit shyly. He hesitated to tell me where he was.
"He's not here. He's not at work either so I don't know where he is." He might not know but I do.
I made sure to thank him and head out the frat house. I drive to the woods where he showed me months ago.
Back when we first started becoming friends. When I get there, I could see him sitting on a rock.
It wasn't too cold knowing it was starting to warm up. "Glad to know you're still alive." I grab his attention.
He sits up to see if it was actually me. He seemed shocked that I came here to see him.
"Same to you." I walked over to him but made sure to keep my distance.
It was quiet for a moment, and I could tell he was looking at the cast on my arm.
"I tried to visit you in the hospital. Seth wouldn't let me back though." He admits to me.
He looks like he hasn't slept much the past couple of days. There was some awkward tension between us.
Last time we saw each other, he pushed me away and I backed out in front of a car.
"I think he was just super stressed and worried." I tell him. He nods his head in agreement.
"I'm just happy you're okay." I tell him how I had a few broken bones and a concussion.
I'm lucky I walked out of that alive. "Did you mean it? That I need to stay away from you." I ask curiously.
He inhaled and exhaled a deep breath before answering. "When I realized I pushed you, I was sick to my stomach."
I could tell he was actually upset. "I'm super fucked up, Aspen." It hurts hearing him say that.
"Then please don't push me away so I can help you." I beg towards him. He shakes his head towards me.
"You were in the hospital because of me. I think I need to get my shit together before we can be more." I hate hearing him say that.
I understand though. He needs to focus on himself, in a good way, before he can get into a relationship.
I know I need to focus on my health and catching back up in school. "So, where does this lead us?" I ask curiously.
I don't think I could hate Colby the way I used to when I first met him. We have a bond, a connection.
I don't know if it's love or something else, but I feel like he'll always have a place in my heart.
"I still wanna be friends, I don't think I can fully let you go. I just need to focus on myself." I don't think I could fully let him go either.
I sighed and nodded my head. I make sure to look at him one last time before I walk away.
"You have my number if you need me." I reminded him as I started to walk away. I didn't want to show him I was heartbroken.
I wanted to show him I was strong for him. He just nods his head as I get into my car. I held my tears while I drove back to campus.
When I parked the car, I couldn't hold them anymore so I started crying.
