The Unorthodox Life of Aaliyah Kaye Marx (30)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I disentangled myself from Kaden at around six am, carefully shifting and moving his smooth, toned arm from where it rested across my bare chest. I picked up his shirt from the ground and slid it over my head, drowning myself in the swathes of material. My lip twitched at the thought of the fact that this had been the first eight hour, sober nights sleep I've had in ... Well I don't even remember a time where this has happened before.

Glancing down at his sleeping form I had to bite my lip to stop myself giggling at the sight before me... His chest was littered in scratches and hickeys and his neck looked like it had been mauled by some beast... I'm certain his back hadn't faired much better. His lip were swollen and slightly chapped, covered in healing bite marks.

Shooting him one last look, I sighed internally and silently swiped Kaden's Benson from his side table and swept out of his room - he didn't stir once. My muscles ached slightly and I felt my face heat up slightly along with the wry grin that shaped my lips at the thought of all we had done last night. That boy sure had a lot of stamina...

I crept out his front door, leaving it slightly ajar before pulling open the box in my hand sliding out a cigarette and lighting it up. I felt grimy and I knew a cool shower would sooth my aching muscles so I made my way over to the trellis underneath my balcony, stealthily scaling the wall, fag clamped between my teeth. Inhaling one last drag I tossed it back onto the lawn behind me before heading inside and quickly showering. I stepped out and grabbed a towel, swiping my hand across the fogged up mirror. Reaching down to grab my underwear I froze, my gaze shooting back up to my mirror and more importantly - my reflection.

Shit.

If I thought Kaden's neck had been bad... My own was nothing in comparison. Twisting around and looking over my shoulder I growled at the sight of the dozen bruises and hickeys that made trails across my shoulders and down my neck. Turning back around I glanced down and narrowed my eyes at the lines of teeth marks and hickeys adorning my chest all the way down to my stomach and the insides of my thighs. Bastard.

Averting my gaze I dressed quickly in a pair of red skinny jeans and the highest necked shirt I owned. Grabbing a chiffon scarf I wrapped it around my neck securely hiding all of my love bites before heading downstairs to make breakfast for myself. I decided I would leave for school early, hopefully before Kaden had the chance to get his ass over to my house - my mind kept turning over those four words he'd proclaimed to me last night...

'You're mine now, Ali.' What did that mean? Did he think we were together or something because as far as I'm concerned our relationship extended as far as casual sex and that was it. I'm not ready for another relationship. My last boyfriend was a using prick - hell, he'd kidnapped and tortured me - and yes, I realise Kaden would never do anything like that to me (I wouldn't let him - Jay and Danny would destroy him - and I just don't think he would ever physically hurt me in anyway) but I'm not ready for a serious kind of thing with anybody. Serious relationships mean too many rules, too much thought and too much effort. Then there was Devyn, how could I hop into another relationship so easily after his passing. I know it had been several weeks but should I not still be mourning him? Even if my wolf wasn't I should. I was acting like a floozy. A tramp.

All of these thoughts tumbled through my mind as I put on some pop tarts and quickly scarfed them down. I tossed a pop tart to Daisy who was pulling at my jeans under the table and I grabbed my keys off of the counter when I heard movement from upstairs, dashing out my front door to my car I hopped in and lit up a cigarette, smoothly reversing out of my driveway. I decided I had enough time for a few laps of town before I headed to school - I mean what good would it do to my image to turn up at school a good hour before first class?

My phone started buzzing in my pocket while I was cruising along the road running parallel to the beach, the salty tang in the air really refreshing me. Clamping my cigarette between my teeth I pulled out my phone and held it to my ear, "Hello?" I inquired, taking my other hand off the wheel to hold my cigarette.

"Ali where are you and why weren't you answering me before?"

"Hello Jay, good morning to you too." I replied rolling my eyes, before removing my hand from the wheel for a second to take another pull from my fag.

"No seriously Ali - why weren't you answering, I was nearly worried, and where are you? You didn't even come home last night. Dad's pissed."

"Dad can piss off - it's none of his business where I was or yours either for that matter and dude, this is the first time you called me. I'm doing a few laps before heading to school."

"Are you DRIVING and talking on the phone at the same time?!"

"And smoking - see, I can multitask when I need to." I chuckled.

"Ali pull over so I can god damn well talk to you!"

"We're already talking - why do I need to pull over?"

"PULL OVER. NOW."

"Fine..." I sighed, making a sharp turn and skidding onto the side of the road. There were barely any cars on the road at this hour anyway.

"Yes Jay, now what was so terribly important that I had to pull over?" I sighed bringing the end of my fag to my lips before tossing the butt away.

"Why didn't you come home last night - and I didn't mean why didn't you answer a phone call I meant why didn't you answer when I called you in the mind link - tool." He added the insult snidely onto the end of his explanation. "And actually you didn't answer the phone to me yesterday during school, now that I think of it."

"I was having sex with Kaden. You didn't call me Jay? Oh and Kaden had taken my phone and turned it off yesterday at school."

"A- Ali!" He spluttered and I threw back my head and laughed - I could picture his embarrassed expression perfectly in mind just by the sound of his stuttering words. "Too much information - Jesus christ, I'm your brother!"

"You asked and I told - so yeah, back to this mind thingy - you never called me?"

"I did, you were blocking me?" I heard him sigh and I bit my lip, waiting for him to continue. "I guess you don't know how to work it yet - I'll run you through it when I get to school."

"'Kay, and if that is all MOTHER, I shall be hanging up now."

"No phones when driving Ali."

I hung up, not bothering to reply, rolling my eyes. Starting up my car I quickly pulled out onto the road and turned around in the direction of my school. My hair and scarf fluttered behind me as I had all my windows rolled down - music blaring as I pulled into my school parking lot with three minutes to spare before first class started. Securely wrapping my scarf back around my neck I cut the engine and hopped out of my car, locking her up before strolling up to the front doors. It wasn't even half past seven in the morning and already I could feel the heat of the day ahead. It was going to be a scorcher - just my luck that I needed a scarf on a day like today. I made my way to my locker where I could see Jessica waiting for me.

"Hey Jess." I greeted her, throwing open my locker and pulling my schoolbag out with all the homework in it that I was supposed to have had.

"What's with the scarf Al - I've never seen you wear one before?"

"Umm, fashion statement?" I saw her hand dart out, aiming for the scarf resting around my neck and I quickly danced out of the way of her hands, shooting her a grin.

"I'll tell you chill out, just don't touch the scarf." I saw her smirk and I rolled my eyes.

"Your reaction was enough. Kaden?" She questioned.

"Yup," I replied non-chalantly and she laughed out loud. We walked to class, chatting aimlessly. The day passed quickly enough considering it was a school day - my head was all wrapped up with Kaden - as much as I tried to force him from my mind he was always there. Damn it. I was half dreading, half eagerly anticipating seeing him at lunch.

Jessica and myself strolled into the cafeteria and immediately my senses were overcome by him. I could smell him, I could feel his presence, hell - I could almost taste him. My gaze was drawn to his from right across the room - my body directing me, telling me to go to him, I could feel my wolf straining for him and as quickly as I could I clamped down on her and thrust her into the background of my mind. Breaking the contact I held with his silvery gaze. Grinding my teeth together I stomped over to the cafeteria line - frustrated with myself. Why am I so attached? Sure I get the whole mate concept - the guys explained it to me but I thought I got to choose when I accepted him as a mate or whatever. I was drawn from my reverie as I heard Jessica giggling beside me.

I raised an eyebrow at her and followed her humour filled gaze in the direction she was looking. I felt my own lips twitch upwards in a smirk as I watched every single guy at the table Kaden was sitting at burst out laughing as Emmet daringly pulled down the neck of his shirt - displaying the scratches and hickeys marring his perfect skin. I snorted and rolled my eyes, grabbing my food.

"Want to sit outside?" I enquired of Jessica and she sent me a small smirk before nodding at me. I did my very best to ignore Kaden, the entire way across the cafeteria, that is, until he decided to step out in front of me.

"Where are you going Ali?"

Without looking at him I stepped around him, much to my wolfs dislike, and replied, “Outside. C’mon Jess.”

“Oh no you don’t.” I could hear the grin in his voice and I ground my teeth at the sound. What? Just because we’re having sex means I have to sit with him? My murderous thoughts were halted in their tracks as Kaden reached out to put his arm around me.

“Ah ah AH!” I screeched, causing heads to turn to see what all the commotion was about. We both knew that if his hands went anywhere near me I wouldn’t be able to resist going to sit beside him. I dodged his grasp and turned around smirking at him. My smirk fell slightly as I took in the hurt look painted across his face - I straightened my smile and explained.

“Jess and I are going to enjoy a peaceful lunch without male interaction OUTSIDE because it’s a beautiful day.” I stated and he raised an eyebrow, folding his arms over his chest.

“Swapping teams are we Ali?” Kaden questioned smirking smugly at me. I scoffed and rolled my eyes.

“Kaden honey, you know I’m not into men.” Our conversation had caught a lot of attention and I heard a rumble of male laughter pass through the cafeteria at my answer along with a few shocked gasps from the girls who were listening in.

“Oh so THAT’S why you were screaming my name last night.” Pure silence met his words and you could have heard a pin drop in the cavernous room. How dare he declare that to the entire school. He’s gonna pay for that. That was just too far. I recovered quickly with -

“Kaden stop turning actual facts into those delusional dreams of yours - we both know I was screaming your name to get you to close your curtains while you and Mrs. Hand were going at it yesterday evening - I do not need the peaceful view from my balcony to be disturbed by your masturbation habits.” I stated grinning widely. I bit my lip to stop from laughing at the look on his face as the whole room was immersed in fits of laughter. Was that a blush I saw appearing on his cheeks? Really?!

“Awwww KADEN’S BLUSHING!” I screeched whipping out my phone and snapping a picture of his pink, slightly mortified - angry face. “Profile picture!” I stated, grabbing Jessica’s arm and pulling her giggling self out of the cafeteria with me.

As soon as we got outside I dissolved into fits of laughter and both Jessica and I collapsed against the tall oak tree - protecting us from the heat of the day. We giggled and chatted for the remainder of lunch - deciding to skip the next class - it was way too hot to be inside on such a beautiful day.

At about two o clock we were spotted as our class filed out of the side doors of the gym.

   “Shit!” Jess exclaimed.

“Crap, today’s Monday - I forgot we have PE on Mondays…” I trailed off, hoping our PE teacher hadn’t spotted us and was going to make us join in - it was way too hot to be playing sports. My luck of course - is complete horse shit, as you may have guessed from the mate and brother I have already been gifted with.

“AALIYAH?! JESSICA!” I groaned, kneading my palms against my eyes. “Get your asses over here - were you trying to skip my class?”

“No Sir!” I called back and Jessica snickered as our female PE teachers face turned bright red.

“It’s MISS to you - get inside and get changed now - you’re both getting five extra laps!”

“WHAT?!” I exclaimed. “But it’s like a BILLION degrees!” I said frowning, my eyes zoning in on Kaden and Danny who were both quite clearly struggling not to burst out laughing at my misfortune.

“You want me to make it TEN?!”

I grumbled a few unintelligible responses that Jessica laughed at as we both trooped inside to get changed.

“Got spare gear?” Jess asked me - I raised an eyebrow at her.

“Jessica - do I look like I even have gear for myself? Never mind you too.”

“Damn, I was hoping you might have it in your car or something … I hate wearing the spare school stuff…” Our eyes widened at the same time and we both darted for the locker that held spare sports gear - both of us eager to find something of a normal size that wasn’t stained or didn’t smell. We rooted through the pile of clothes and I shouted in victory as I pulled out a skimpy pair of acid green shorts that were neither stained or smelly.

“Fuck you Ali …” Jessica grumbled as she picked up a longer red pair that had a couple stains but didn’t smell at the very least. I giggled and stripped off right in front of her slipping on the shorts which turned out to be more like underwear. They were so tight and I could feel them riding up at the back. Moaning I pulled at the bottoms and Jessica laughed at my disgruntled face.

“Bet you wish you had mine now.” She giggled pretending to pose in her stained basketball shorts.

“Yes, Jessica - because I want the cum-stained shorts instead of the clean nice smelling ones.”

I burst out laughing as her mouth dropped open in disgust.

“That’s disgusting Ali that’s not what they are, it’s white chocolate and you know it!” She exclaimed angrily reaching out to punch me. I dodged and dashed out the door, laughing maniacally as I ran, I could hear her pounding the ground behind me. I raced up to the group of students gathered at the side of the pitch and slowed down, feeling sweat already running down my back. It really was about one hundred degrees out here.

“Hey Ali - it’s like ninety eight degrees - what’s with the scarf?” I heard a voice call, I place one hand on my hip and replied to Tommy’s smart ass question with the one finger salute making him burst out laughing. I started to grin too until my teacher burst my bubble.

“Alright Ali - since you’re so adamant on being rude today, the rest of the class is going to sit here and watch you and Jessica run your ten laps - go NOW.”

     “Aw but Miss-”

     “NOW.”

     “Fucking bitch…”

     “I heard that!”

“You were supposed to.” I shot angrily over my shoulder before starting jogging, Jessica at my side snickering away.

“FIFTEEN LAPS ALI, Jessica you’re still ten.”

As slowly as possible Jessica and I jogged around the pitch taking about ten minutes to make it full circle, by the time we reached the crowd the teacher was fuming. Good enough for her, it was so irritating seeing everyone sitting and chilling in the sun while we were running.

“Pick up the speed or there’ll be more!”  Seeing as I was sweating like a pig already I didn’t need anymore laps so I just figured now would be a good time to keep my mouth shut for once. Rolling my eyes I picked up the speed, sprinting - Jessica finished in no time and I was on my own for the last five laps. I decided to race myself and really pushed, pounding the dirt as fast as I possibly could. Pulling back up to the crowd - everybody cheered and I collapsed to the ground panting, eyes closed…

I gasped in shock as cold water was poured all over my face and my eyes fluttered open.

“Jessica you spanner.” I exclaimed and she just giggled, “C’mon - girls vs. the guys, we’re playing kick ball.”

We set up the bases and what looked like the whole football team gathered across from us.

“Shirts vs. skins! Girls can be skins!” Kaden exclaimed, smirking, eyes locked on me as he said it. A wave of laughter rolled through the guys side and I rolled my eyes (I seem to be doing that a lot today - I really have to stop) and cocked my hip.

“We don’t need it Kaden - it’s guys against girls, if you’re feeling a little confused you should talk to somebody about it - it’s okay to be gay. You’re queer - you’re here - we don’t mind.” I smirked right back and Kaden folded his arms across his chest - embarrassed at the burst of laughter that travelled through everyone gathered on the pitch - even our teacher let out a tiny snort of mirth.

Even though our game didn’t start off as shirts vs. skins it sure ended that way - the guys all eventually stripped off and I couldn’t help but laugh along with everyone else as Kaden bore his bruised and scratched back to everyone on the pitch. It had an adverse effect than what I thought it would though - all the guys cheered and it only helped to inflate his already gigantic self esteem. He turned and winked at me and I couldn’t help but stick my tongue out at him childishly making him grin. That wide smile did crazy things to my heart, it fluttered in my chest while my stomach tightened and I gulped - breaking his gaze quickly. It was a good thing I was already over heated from running around or my blush would have been on display to everyone. And Aaliyah Marx does not blush.

The game was going fine until it was my turn to kick. Kaden was stationed on the last base to my left - meaning I would have to pass him on my bid to home - and I had to make it home this time because we were being destroyed by the guys team.

I bared my teeth at Emmet playfully as he pitched the ball to me and I put all my strength behind lobbing it to the other end of the pitch. Without even looking to see how far it had gone - I took the girls cheering to mean that nobody had caught it and I was free to keep sprinting. Going all out I could see last base up ahead and focused all my energy onto getting there. What can I say - I’m a sore loser, I hate being beaten and I sure as hell wouldn’t live it down. Jay, Kaden and Danny would be at me for weeks.

What happened next seemed to progress in slow motion, my left foot touched the base just as Kaden reached up and snatched the ball that had been thrown at him out of the air, his hands shot out to tap me with the ball and I ducked, flinging myself towards home. I landed on the hard packed dirt and grinned when I heard a girly cheer start up - guess that means I made it. Dusting myself off I stood slowly and grinned, looking towards my team who had run over. My grin faded when Jessica halted in her tracks with wide eyes and then burst into fits of giggles. I frowned and then froze, noticing a long white, dirty piece of chiffon laying on the ground at my feet.

“Told you guys she was screaming out my name last night.” Came a snide voice from behind me. Fuck. I turned to Kaden - about to spit out a sarky reply but I didn’t get the chance as a sly voice cut in.

“You know normally I’d find that a serious turn off but those legs kind of cancel that out, especially in those shorts.” I heard an unfamiliar voice proclaim. I turned my disgusted gaze to some guy I didn’t know but recognized from a few of my classes. Before I even had a chance to reprimand him I was cut off for a second time. This time it was Kaden, his toned arm swept out and pushed me gently behind him and I frowned at the way my stomach tightened at his warm touch, the way my heart leapt in my chest. His scent was so overpowering - even after all the sweating he’d just done in this heat - it was such a turn on, it had simply given him a much more manly smell.

“Dude, the fuck? That’s my girl you’re talking to.” Kaden growled dangerously. My pulse rate spiked at the sound of his powerful and threatening voice. What a turn on. Wait, my girl?!?

   “Kaden I’m not your girl?”
