I'm a runner. I'm not trying to act superior by bringing it up I swear, it's a part of the story. I should also mention that I live out in the country where my backyard ends in a thick forest. The forest is named "The Witch's Wood" because of some bullshit story of this old lady who used to take young kids deep into it and string them up in the trees by their necks. Every night I go out there and run without any paths and nothing but the moon to light my way.
I like to listen to music on my run. It helps take the edge off; a dark "haunted" forest at night isn't exactly the most calming place to be. Well last night I went out there with only 10% battery life on my phone, I figured I would make it a quick one and be back before my phone died. I was about halfway through my route when my phone powered off leaving me there with no music.
Every night I go out there, and every night I am completely oblivious to the sounds of the forest. Last night though, I heard everything.
If I had only turned down my music, then I would have been able to hear the whispers coming at me from up in the trees.
