“Miss Genevieve Abbey?”
“Here, sir,” she was quick to answer, rising from her spot in the plastic chair.
The other medical school students snickered, having already put a bet on that she would fail her next test. Jenny was a few years younger than them all, each being about twenty-three to twenty-four years old, while she was only nineteen. Ignoring them, she walked over to where the head doctor stood, handing her a stethoscope.
“Check this patient’s pulse, please, and his heart rate,” the doctor said.
“Don’t confuse them,” another student, Austin, snickered.
Jenny glared at him from her spot, before bending over and placing the stethoscope in her ears, listening to the heart beat of the patient.
“She’s such an idiot,” another student, Megan, spoke.
“Doesn’t even know-”
Jenny plucked the stethoscope from her ears, stomping over to where Austin stood and shoving it at his chest.
“Just because I have this in my ears, doesn’t mean I can’t hear you, you divvy,” she scoffed.
“Divvy?” Austin laughed, “What are you, some British dictionary?”
With one last shove at his chest, Jenny left the room. She could hear the head doctor calling her back, scolding the other students in between, but paid no attention. Tears stinging her eyes, she ripped off the white coat from around her shoulders and hung it up in the locker room, where she yanked open her locker door and pulled out everything, stuffing them in her purse.
She pulled off her white sneakers and stuffed them in the empty locker, replacing them with her boots. Swapping the white lab coat she’d had on before with a grey, wool one, and pulling a grey beanie over her head. She slung he purse over one shoulder and stomped out of the medical school, heading to the elevator and down the levels of the hospital before running out of the place completely.
Sniffling, Jenny eyed the snow-covered streets of Chicago, and made a decision to go to the park. Her legs led her to the park that she’d visited multiple times as a child, now blanketed in white. Finding a bench that wasn’t covered in snow, she sat down, gazing around the snow-covered park. The Chicago skyline was visible in the distance, a few trees empty of any leaves.
“You alright?” came a male voice.
Thinking it was Austin, she said, “I don’t need any more criticism, Austin. Just fuck off.”
“Who said I was Austin?”
Lifting her head up, eyes wide, Jenny turned to the right, where she saw someone she’d missed a whole lot. He wore jeans, obviously not prepared for the weather. A beanie perched atop his head, his hands were stuffed in the pockets of his sweater to keep warm.
“Louis?” she said, speechless, “But-you-London-”
“Yep,” he said, smiling, “I’m here. Now, where’s my hug?”
Jenny dropped her purse on the bench and jumped up, sprinting towards her boyfriend, whom she hadn’t seen in months. She jumped into his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck, breathing in his cologne.
Laughing, Louis said, “I’ve missed you,” and spun her around.
“I’ve missed you more,” she whispered, as he set her down.
“I don’t think so. I’ve missed you more.”
“No, believe me,” she said seriously, thinking back to the medical school, “I’ve missed you more.”
A sad smile set upon his lips, Louis took her hand in his and said, “What happened, Jenny?”
Letting out a sigh, Jenny bit her bottom lip and looked again at the skyline of Chicago, blanketed in white.
“You can tell me anything, you know that, right?” Louis said, brushing away a stray tear from her cheek, “Unless you’ve been seeing someone while I was gone. Then I’m going to-”
“I haven’t seen anyone, Lou,” she sniffled, looking at him, “I’ve just had a very bad day.”
“Oh,” he said, as her arms wrapped around his neck again in a hug. He reached down and wrapped his arms around her waist, hugging her to him, “Seems like you need some cheering up.”
“Mhm,” she said against his neck.
“Come along, then,” he said, pulling away from her and holding out his hand, “Let me do my magic.”
Smiling through her tears, Jenny grabbed his hand and slung her purse over her shoulder as they walked towards the skyline. [A/N: Cue picture on the sidebar]

“Two hot chocolates,” Louis said, after looking down at Jenny for approval.
She clung to his left arm, her cheek pressed against the sleeve of his sweater like a child. Louis didn’t mind one bit, snaking his arm around her waist and pulling him into her side as he paid for the Starbucks drinks.
“Two hot chocolates!” the employee yelled, pushing the two cup of coffee onto the counter.
Louis handed one cup to Jenny and held his own before leading them both out of the small Starbucks.
“How are you not being swarmed by fans?” Jenny sniffled.
Chuckling, Louis replied, “No one knows I’m here.”
“I see.”
As they strolled the streets, topics shifting from the boys to Jenny’s medical school, she found herself opening up to him, venting out all the insecurities she’d had as a first time doctor. From Austin and Megan’s banter to her test results, and even to where she wanted to quit.
“Quit?” Louis said, stopping and staring at her, “They’ve driven you that far?”
“Yeah,” she murmured.
Shaking his head, Louis persed his lips as they continued walking. Sipping on their hot chocolates, they arrived back at the park. Louis led her to the bench they were sitting on, and sat down, sitting her next to him.
“What if, hypothetically, I said you could get out of here?” he wondered aloud, eyeing the skyling ahead of them.
“What?” Jenny asked, raising her head from its spot on his shoulder to look at him, “What on Earth do you mean?”
“I mean,” he said, looking at her, “Get out of Chicago.”
“I wouldn’t mind one bit,” she said, “This damn city is getting on my nerves.”
Louis nodded, deciding to agree with her. Squinting, he pondered a bit, and broke into a smile after realizing something.
“What’re you smiling at?” Jenny asked, staring at him.
“Hypothetically,” he continued, “Would you move with me and go to university in London?”
Her eyes widening, Jenny raised her head again and said, “What’re you going on about?”
“I mean, Jenny,” he said, grabbing her hands and facing her, “Come with me. Come to London. Kate’s already there, taking the year off. There’s a bunch of medical schools there, St. James, Saba, and more.”
“Louis, I-”
“Please?” he asked, pouting, “For me? For us?”
Sighing, Jenny bit her lip and eyed the skyline of Chicago a bit before breaking out into a grin. Louis smiled, grabbing her chin and turning her head in his direction, before capturing her lips with his.
“Have I told you I love you?” he asked.
“Not yet,” she smiled.
“Well, I love you.”
“And I love you too.”
