in this story, vampires can't bite a human's neck unless they are planning on making them their mate. biting one's neck means marking them. thus it'll mean making them your soulmate. they can stay away from each other but it'll take a toll on both.
however, a vampire biting a human's neck twice makes them inseparable, therefore if they are separated from each other, will make the vampire extremely vulnerable, eventually pushing them to death.

once a human is marked by a vampire, their blood becomes even sweeter for their mate to devour on. thus, the vampire starts having a rut ( a period when they are incredibly horny and needs to have sex no matter what )
