We sat in the car for what felt like ages, I knew he wasn't going to walk in without a fight but geez I didn't think he would put up one for this long.
Robby- I'm not going in there, Julia.
Julia- Robby, you have to go in. I already texted her this morning that you were going to see her today, so you have to.
Robby- you texted my PO?!
Julia- she texted me first because you were ignoring her text.
Robby- because I don't want to talk to her, Julia!
Julia- for the love of God, just go Robby! it's a quick in and out, this way you can change your address to Moon's so that way if she does check in, she won't see your staying in some dojo!
He looked at me than out the window, I sighed and looked down at my hands than back up at him.
Julia- look, I'm only doing this so that you won't get in trouble. If you aren't supposed to be fighting, then I want to know now so you can stop before you get in trouble. Can you please just go in?
Robby looked at me with a blank stare, I could tell by the look in his eyes that he was still pissed off but nonetheless he opened the car door and got out. I internally cheered as I followed him inside the building. We sat in the waiting room after checking in, I watched him fidget with the bracelet making me sigh and look away from him. About 10 minutes later, we got called back and we went in. Johnson was sitting at her desk and looked up at us with a smile when she saw us, she motioned for us to sit which we did.
Johnson- alright, what brings you two in here? Robby, I see you missed are last check in
Robby- got busy.
Johnson- right well let's try to come to those, I don't want to have to send you back to Juvie for validating your parole.
Robby didn't say anything to her as he looked back down at his hands, Johnson looked at him than at me as I sat straight up in my chair.
Johnson- alright, Ms. Diaz. you had some concerns about his parole?
Julia- um yes, I wanted to ask if he was able to fight like in a dojo. I know he was arrested for that but i didn't know if that meant he can't fight again.
Johnson- I mean I don't see why not, as long as he's not street fighting than he is all clear. what dojo are you training in?
Robby- Cobra Kai.
Johnson- ah okay, the dojo in the strip mall. I heard good things about that place, maybe it will help with your anger control.
Robby- what did you just say?
Johnson- oh not like that! I'm saying like it's a good way to balance out your emotions. I mean considering your last dojo didn't work out in your favor, maybe this one will do you some good.
I sat back in my chair as I looked at Robby, he still refused to make eye contact with me or Johnson. I would say I'm upset with that, but I did drag him here when he didn't want to be so that's on me.
Johnson- have you spoken to your mom since you been out of Juvie?
Robby- nope, why would I?
Johnson- you tell me, Robby. she was your legal guardian for what? 16 years
Robby- can't say that. she was never around; I would have been lucky to have seen her for more than 5 minutes.
Johnson- okay we are getting somewhere, this is good Robby.
Robby- If I talk, then can I go?
Johnson- *chuckles* yes, that's how it works here.
I looked between the two as I put my phone on silent since it kept buzzing in my pocket. Robby looked at Johnson with an unamused expression.
Robby- alright fine. what do you want to know?
Johnson- whatever you want to tell me.
Robby- fine. my mom was never around, she rather go sleep around with a bunch of guys whether than take care of me. she was sent to rehab for drinking and drug usuage so yet again she left me on my own. My dad is no better being a dead-beat drunk who rather take care of some other kid than come see his own kid in Juvie.
Johnson- is that why you won't like drinking?
Robby- yeah, it is.
Johnson- what about other substances? I know that your mom has history of doing them
Robby- what do you mean by that?
Johnson- I'm asking if you ever taken drugs, Robby? I know kids with your kind of past resort to those measurements to cope
Robby- no, I have never done drugs. can I go now?
I looked at Robby whose leg was starting to bounce, and he begun to fidget with the bracelet again.
Johnson- okay so what did you do?
Robby- can I get some water?
I looked at Johnson about to get up and go get him some, but instead she leaned back and grabbed a bottled water out of her mini fridge and handed it to him. He took it and you can clearly see how shaky his hand was.
Johnson- Robby, listen. I can see why you're so anxious and that's okay, but you need to tell me what you did?
Robby- it was a friend's prescription. But after I took it, I got sick, so I never did it again.
Johnson- and how long ago was that?
Robby- once before last summer, I don't remember the exact date
Johnson nodded as she leaned back in her seat, she looked at me than back at Robby.
Johnson- what prescription did you take?
Robby looked at Johnson than back at me, I gave him a confused look.
Robby- can you uh go wait in the waiting room?
Julia- you sure?
Robby- yeah, I just rather talk alone
I looked at Johnson who was looking at me already, I nodded before standing up and walking out of the room. I headed back to my seat in the waiting room and sat down as I waited for him to finish up talking. I heard footsteps coming over to me making me look up and see Robby, I stood up to leave when he stopped.
Robby- wait I forgot to ask her something
Julia- alright, want me to wait or?
Robby- nah, you can come with
I nodded and followed him back; he knocked on Johnson's door before opening it. She was drinking her coffee and, on her computer, when she looked at us.
Johnson- what can I do for ya, Robby?
Robby- I need to ask you something
Johnson- alright go right ahead
Robby- can I participate in the All-Valley tournament?
Johnson- I mean I don't see why you wouldn't be able to, it's a supervised event with rules. As long as you obey those rules and don't violate parole. I'm sure you will be fine
Robby- awesome, thanks
He walked out after saying that leaving me flabbergasted as Johnson chuckled shaking her head.
Johnson- he's a good kid, just needs some guidance.
Julia- yeah, your right on that.
I walked out after Robby and had to run to catch up with him since he was already outside by the time, I got out there. We both got into my car, and I started to drive again.
Julia- why are you so happy all of a sudden? I'm not saying I am mad that you are, just confused
Robby- guess I'm happy that I finally opened up to someone else besides you, it felt nice to if I'm being honest. So why did you slap Anthony?
Julia- ah well he was being a dick and tried to steal some sunglasses. When I tried to confront him on the matter, he just got pissy so I slapped him. I'm pretty sure his face is redder than a tomato maybe even bruised by now.
Robby- I leave you alone one day and you already slap someone? geez what happened to the sweet Julia that I met a year ago?
Julia- I met you.
The rest of the car ride was silent, I guess we both hit a nerve with our comments. not a shocker there.
