There was something sweet & romantic about that night as they sat together in the VIP section of Ascend Bar. Miguel Josef Uy Monteverde looked at the girl sitting next to him, she was laughing at a joke which he didn’t hear. Pero napangiti din siya, nahawa ata sa dalaga. He continued to watch, admiring her and he never felt so contented. For him, she was the only person in that crowded place. He couldn’t hear his friends, or the loud music surrounding him… all that’s existing was her: Eleonor Malicsi Dimaculangan.
She laughed about a joke she really didn’t understand. But she thought she had to fake a laugh, para hindi mahalata ng binatang katabi niya kung gaano kabilis ang tibok ng puso niya ngayon. As always, she was trying to hide what her heart truly feels. Coz’ truth be told, all she was aware of was the guy sitting next to her especially his hand resting at the back of her seat barely touching her neck.
She instinctively turned to look up at him and surprisingly he was looking down at her. Parang merong invisible electricity na dumaloy sa dalaga…
Like there was a mutual unspoken feeling between them…

Noon, nung hindi ko pa kilala ang isang Miguel Josef Uy Monteverde… SIMPLE lang talaga ang takbo ng buhay ko… napaka liit lang ng mundong ginagalawan ko… my world only revolves around my FAMILY & my FRIENDS. Oo. Ganun lang ka-simple. No complications, effortless, plain, simple and clear as the sky. Sila-sila lang ang lagi kong kasama.
Siguro nga, kabilang ako sa mga taong binabansagan ng SSB or commonly known as NBSB. But, honestly, ni minsan hindi sumagi sa isip ko na kulang ang buhay ko just because I don’t have someone to spend Valentine’s with. Haha. I dunno, siguro kasi I just see things differently – yeah, really different. Haha.
Kung gusto ko ng ka-date? Madami pa akong pagpipilian kung sino gusto kong makasama. Kung minsan, kaming dalawa lang ni Max, ni Japo or ni Borge, o kaya ni AJ. In other words, hindi ako stick to one. Haha. I practically got a hundred names on my list if ever na gusto ko ng kasamang manood ng movie, ka-exchange gifts tuwing Christmas, ka-Valentines Date, ka-batuhan ng sweet words tulad ng: I love you, I miss you at Take Care… So, in other words… I don’t feel SINGLE at all. Kasi, sa araw-araw na ginawa ng Diyos I always feel the love of all these people… at sa kanila… kuntento na ako…
Pero sandali lang!!! HUWEYT!!! Just to make it clear… Hindi ko naman gustong tumandang dalaga ano!!! Hahaha. I just see life so differently, I guess. Para sakin kasi, may tamang ORAS sa lahat ng bagay… kung baga, may tamang TIMING. At tulad ng lagi kong sinasabi sa inyo… AYOKO NG BOYPREN… ASAWA NA LANG AGAD!!! Hahahaha.
But despite my lack of experience on the boyfriend area, I am proud to say that I am NOT IGNORANT about relationships. I’ve always been a keen observer. Pakiramdam ko nga nakita ko na lahat ng klase ng lovestory!!! Oo, as in LAHAT.
Kasi naman, parang ako yung naging shock absorber ng mga kaibigan ko. Ako yung always present, taga pakinig sa tuwing may prublema… sabihan lang nila ako na gusto nila ng kausap, ng kasama, ng kainuman, wala pang isang segundo nandun na ako sa tabi nila. I closed my mouth & LISTEN kasi alam ko sa sarili kong yun lang naman yung kaya kong gawin – ang MAKINIG.
You know what, I know exactly how Meg would cry her heart out over Ryan. I saw how miserable she would be, yung laging umiiyak, laging malungkot especially that time when she found out na merong ibang babae si Ryan. Syempre alam ko din ang lahat ng chapter ng lovestory ni Borge – including all her ex-boyfriends – at syempre yung latest story niya ngayong with Nico Villaflor. Yung childhood love ni Jill who seriously broke her heart, and now, I watch her struggle with her feelings for Ken na siya namang numero uno sa FLIRTING at ni minsan wala pang sineryosong babae. I even saw how Sara broke countless of men’s hearts. Mabilis kasi maginit ang ulo nun, kaya pag nagaaway sila ng boyfriend niya it would always end up with her breaking up with them, pero unang beses ko siyang nakitang naging seryoso was when she was with Max. And then there was Japo na siyang nuk-nukan sa ka-TORPEHAN… pero kahit ganun yung si Japo, may ilang babae din namang nagkakamali dun. Hahaha. At dahil torpe nga ang loko, babae na tuloy ang nanliligaw sakanya!!! Hahaha. At syempre, higit sa lahat, ang magaling kong pinsan na si AJ!!! Oo, mga kaibigan, MAY LOVELIFE ANG BRUHANG YUN AT TALAGANG DINAIG PA AKO SA MALA-RAINBOW COLOR NIYANG LOVE STORY!!! Hahahaha.
So, ano toh Ellie? Laglagan na ng sekreto??? Haha. All I’m saying is that, I’ve seen love’s many faces… I’ve witnessed & heard it in so many ways. At galing pa mismo sa mga taong parte ng araw-araw kong buhay, kaya nga siguro ganito na lang ako ka-ingat… katakot… & maybe their love stories are the main reason why I built a large barrier around me. Nakita ko ang lahat ng yun – all the pain they’ve been through and God all those tears… all the heart aches. Oh, I’ve seen it all.
Magkakaiba man sila ng istorya… magkakaibang lugar, magkakaibang sitwasyon, magkakaibang tao… but you know what… If I were to sum it all up I can say that ALL THEIR LOVE STORIES ARE THE SAME, especially the ending – coz’ one way or another, it sure as hell ain’t close to a HAPPY ENDING.
Ngayon alam niyo na… ngayon you have a pretty good idea kung bakit ang isang Eleonor Malicsi Dimaculangan eh ganito na lang mag-isip!!! Hahaha. Kung bakit parang CLASH OF THE TITANS kung mag-debate ang puso’t isip ko lalo na kapag tungkol dito sa lalaking katabi ko ngayon sa VIP section nitong ASCEND!!!
I gradually looked up at him, dios mio kung alam niyo lang parang may GLUE yung mga mata ko… maya’t maya kusang tumitingin sakanya!!!! ARGH!!! THIS GUY… oo, this guy is making me feel emotions I wasn’t even aware I have. Right now, pakiramdam ko matutunaw ako sa tuwing magkakatinginan kami. And what’s worse??? I can’t think straight, parang naka-brain freeze ang utak ko and all I could hear was the loud BA-DUMP of my heart!!! SHEET!!! Ayoko talaga ng ganito… LORD, AYOKO NITOOOO!!! HINDI AKO SANAY!!! I FEEL SO DARN PATHETIC!!! Pakiramdam ko tuloy, unti-unting pinaguguho ng lalaking toh yung INVISIBLE GREAT WALL OF CHINA na binuo ko – the barrier that I put up to protect myself especially to a GUY like him.
“HAHA. WHAT!? Hindi ko ginawa yun ah!!!” Sef laughed, defending himself about some joke one of his friends said. “Di ba Ellie? Tell them!!!” With that he looked down & caught my gaze.
POOOOTEK!!! Namula bigla yung mga pisngi ko, pakiwari ko nahuli akong namboboso eh!!! Haha.“Huh?” I stammered, biglang baling ng tingin sa mga kaibigan niya. ANAKSHUTA ELEONOR!!! UMAYOS KA NGA!!! U-MA-YOS KAAAAA!!!
Sef took a closer look at me. “Are you okay? Parang sobrang tahimik mo.” He asked, sounding quite suspicious.
Agad akong tumango. “Okay lang ako nuh!!! Ikaw? Okay ka lang?” HUWAW ELLIE!!! OKAY sa alright ah?!?! Haha. Che, wala talaga akong maisip na dapat sabihin sakanya eh!!! Kainis naman kasi tong lalaking toh!!! ILAYO NIYO NGA AKO DITO!!! Haha.
Sef chuckled with slight amusement, and then to my surprise he looked intently to my eyes and said.“You’re here so I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t be okay.”
GRABEEEEEEEEEEE!!! ANSAVEH?!?! Parang gustong tumirik ng mga mata ko, yung ginagawa ni Jose sa Eat Bulaga kapag nagbibilang ng pera. Yung ganung TIRIK ng mata eh!!! Hahaha. Dios ko po Lord, I’m begging you please… WAG KAYONG MAG-JOKE NG GANITO!!! Konti na lang iisipin kong seryoso na ang lahat ng ito!!!
“Ayiiiieeeeeeeeee!!! Ano yan Sef ah?!” Biglang asar ni Ivan, yung mala-Derek Ramsey niya na kaibigan.
I blushed wildly than ever & I noticed that Sef was blushing too. We both looked away.
WWWAAAAAAHHH!!! PAKERRRRRRR!!! NAKAKALOKA NA TOH!!! Hahaha. I felt my heart thumped like it was threatening to jump & to hop happily away. Napangiti tuloy ako, ganito pala yung feeling kapag si Sef naman yung inaasar sakin!! Hahaha.
“Aha!!! You really had it good this time, huh?” Ian added, playfully wrapping his arm around Sef’s neck. Si Ian nga pala was actually the guy who asked me to dance with him noon sa Graduation Ball ng GWAPS. Kaso nung pagkatanong niya sakin, bigla na akong hinatak ni Sef papalabas nun. Haha. Ian was actually thin in physique but taller than Sef. Singkit siya and he obviously has a Chinese blood in him, kaya lalong nawawala yung mata niya kapag ngumingiti. “So, Ellie… you think my friend here stands a chance? Kahit konti lang?”
ANONG KONTI LANG?!?!?! Hel-low, eh kung pinupukpok ko kaya sa ulo itong si Ian?!?! Hahaha. Kung alam lang niya, handa akong pakasalan yang kaibigan niya kahit saang simbahan… tapos sasabihin niya kahit konti lang?!?!
“Uh- pag-iisipan ko pa.” I grinned, shaking my head. Oo, pagiisipan ko pa… kung KELAN ko sasagutin si Sef!! AMP YAN!!! Echoserang froglet ka din talaga Ellie eh!!! Hahaha.
“AYUN OH!!!” Gabrielle cheered. “Did you hear that, dude? Pagiisipan!!! That means, 50-50!!! So be a good boy alright?! Haha.”
“Shut it, man!” Sef hissed, his ears were obviously turning red. Grabe, mas lalong gumagwapo si Sef kapag inaasar eh!!! Hahahaha. He had the habit of frowning at his friends, tapos mamumula, tapos sabay babaling ng tingin sa malayo na kala mo walang naririnig.
“C’mon… be nice to him!!!” Kantiyaw ulit ni Ivan.
“Okay, that’s it!” Sef then declared, standing up. “I’ll go to the washroom, pag balik ko uuwi na tayo.” He told me. Nagtawanan sila Ian. All his guy friends namely Ian, Gab, Ivan & Jerry then went after him to the washroom, trying to convince him not to go just yet. Kahit ako parang ayoko pang umalis, eh kasi naman, nageenjoy pa akong tinutukso-tukso siya sakin!!! Hahaha. Feel na feel ng lola niyo eh!!!
When all the guys were out of earshot, I realized na kaming tatlong babae lang ang naiwan dito sa table.
“Di ba taga Matute ka?” Dimples smiled, striking a friendly conversation with me as she occupied Sef’s seat. Yeah, Dimples yung name nung morena na friend ni Sef. She has long, shiny, black hair. She also has a fine, slender figure… first impression ko nga ee, contestant siya sa Binibining Pilipinas. Kung hindi man, siguradong commercial model ng shampoo coz’ I swear, she is very beautiful pwedeng-pwede makuhang artista sa Star Magic. Haha. I’m pretty sure as well na magkakasundo sila ni Sara!! “Do you happen to know John?”
“John?” I repeated the name. Parang naisip ko na ata halos ang itsura at pangalan ng lahat ng kakilala ko sa MUP na nagngangalang John. But none came into mind.
“John. John Crisostomo.” She smiled. “Si Japo.”
“AAaaaaaahhhh.” I laughed. “Si Japo!!! Nakalimutan ko John nga pala siya. Haha.” Nimales ka, anong klase kang kaibigan Ellie??? Ee bakit ba? Hindi kasi ako sanay na tinatawag siyang JOHN… tulad na lang ni Borge na nagiging Bea kapag kaharap si Nico. “Para kasing sobrang bait ng pangalang John para kay Japo ee, haha.”
“Hahaha. Oo nga.” Pamella, who is the chubby, chinita girl, then suddenly answered. Pam was rather cute & has a plump, huggable built. Oo, may pagka mataba siya, but her face definitely isn’t something to be underestimated. “Tell that idiot na namimiss na namin siya. He better show up next time.” Pam then took her shot of margarita.
Grabe talaga si Japo ano? Kahit sa mga taga-GWAPS sikat!! Haha. Oh, well… bakit pa nga ba ako magtataka? Kamiss-miss naman talaga yung gagung yun. Kung baga sa drugs, nakaka-adik na kaibigan si John Paul Sy Crisostomo. Hehe.
“Oh, wait!” Pam then dramatically gasped, giving Dimples a very meaningful smile. “How about Nico? I’m sure you heard of him. Ralph Nico Villaflor? Alam ko sa Matute na siya ngayon nagaaral, am I rightDimps?”
NICO?! Dios ko!!! Papanong hindi tatanim sa utak ko ang pangalang yan ee halos minu-minuto kong naririnig yan kay Borge?! Haha.
Napatingin ako kay Dimples. Her friendly smile disappeared while her cheeks were blushing as she silently picked up her own glass of margarita and quietly sip from it. Kunwaring hindi niya narinig yung sinabi ni Pam na pangalan.
Hindi naman na nila kailangan magkwento… sa mapang-asar pa lang na tingin ni Pam kay Dimples… alam kong magpapakawala si Borge ng bomba kung sakaling andito siya ngayon. Haha.
“Uh—oo. Okay naman siya.” I gave a short answer. “Captain ball ng soccer at star player ng basketball namin sa MUP.” Wala na kong balak mag-bigay ng iba pang detalye… Gosh, hindi ata nila kilala si Beatrice Gong-gora Natividad kapag si Nico na ang pinaguusapan. Baka mawala ang LAHAT ng buhok ko sa katawan ng wala sa oras!!!
“Still into sports huh?” Dimples muttered more to herself and when she realized what she had said, she blushed even more and tried to change the subject. “You know you & Sef? You really look good together.”She giggled. “And I’m glad to see him this… happy.”
“Huh?” I blinked, completely taken off guard. Ikaw talaga Eleonor, kapag si Sef ang pinaguusapan NABIBINGI KA!!! P-pero ano daw? Sabi ni Dimples BAGAY daw kayo ni Sef… at halos dinaig niyo pa daw ang love team nila Angelu de Leon at Bobby Andrews, nila Juday at Wowee, at syempre nila Elmo at Julianne San Jose!!! Hahaha. At syempre ang walang kamatayang tandem nila Marian at Ding-Dong! WAHAHAHAHAHA. Natuwa naman daw ako dun!! “Ee, lagi naman siyang masaya… hindi ba?”
“Jeez, you have no idea how messed-up Sef was when… you know… Lianne… broke up with him.” Pam answered in a casual tone, yung parang gusto lang niyang magkwento. “Partying was his life & alcohol was his best friend. Tapos he’ll go out with any girl he could lay his eyes on & the funny part is… minsan hindi pa niya alam mga pangalan nila. Haha.” Her cheeks were all red sa sobrang dami na ata ng alak na nainom but still, she looked sober enough to know what she’s talking about. “See? We personally didn’t know what he saw in Lianne at ganun siya nabaliw dun.”
“You really don’t know when to shut up, do you?” Gab, yung boyfriend ni Pam, hissed angrily at her. He plopped down the sofa next to her, galing sigurado siya sa washroom. “Ellie doesn’t need to hear that!”Gabrielle or simply Gab was just like his girlfriend. He was huge in size, and has chinky eyes. Sa totoo lang, para siyang si Jollibee because of his belly so he’s the kind of guy na sasabihan mo ng CUTE.
I flinched and forced a smile. “Haha. Naku, Gab. Okay lang.” Tsss. Okay lang daw!!! Ee bakit parang pilit yang ngiti mo???? Tae naman kasi eeeee… bakit ba parang… kadugtong na ng pangalan ni Sef ang pangalang Lianne??? Biruin niyo naman, sa dinami-rami ng dinate na babae ni Sef… si Lianne lang ang kilala ng lahat at siya lang ang laging binabanggit!!! So, ano yan? Nagseselos ka na Eleonor Malicsi Dimaculangan?? HUH. S-SELOS??? HA. IN YOUR FACE ELLIE, IN YOUR PEYS!!!
“Never mind that.” Dimples waved her hand as though dismissing Pam’s words. “At least we’re sure of one thing.” She gave me a reassuring smile. “He’s serious about you.” I almost laughed at that. Right, seryoso sa isang CLOWN ang isang Miguel Josef Uy Monteverde. After what Pam said, I just wouldn’t bet on it. Hahahahahaha. Atchaka, papano kung katulad lang din ako ng mga babaing dinate ni Sef – yung mga hindi niya alam yung pangalan??? Papano kung up until this point… he was still just trying to forget Lianne?
“S-sorry, Ellie.” Pam muttered apologetically. I gave her a smile – a sincere one. Alam ko naman that she didn’t have any bad intention or whatsoever. And I get her point, in fact sa tono niya kanina it was as if she’s not too crazy about Lianne either… it’s just me taking everything the wrong way.
“Hm.” Napatigil kaming lahat when we realized that Sef was already back. His brows furrowed to a knot & he looked quite pissed. “What are you saying sorry for?” He was actually asking Pam pero sakin naman siya nakatingin as if the answer lies on my face.
“I uh- was just telling her some crazy stuff about you.” Pam smiled weakly.
Lalong kumunot ang noo ni Sef, obviously he didn’t like the sound of that. His stare at me intensified, feeling ko tuloy nasusunog ako so I had to look away.
Bago pa siya makapagsalita biglang umakbay si Ian sakanya. Kasunod nito si Ivan at si Jerry. Galing ata naman sila sa bar, umorder ulit ng drinks. “Man, are you sure aalis na kayo?” Ian was beaming with energy.
“Yes. We’re going.” Sef said firmly, sounding as if nothing would change his mind.
I sat silently on the passenger seat. Sa totoo lang, nag-enjoy ako ngayong gabi. I didn’t know that people from GWAPS could be this warm & funny. I kind of like Sef’s friends, sana nga maka-bonding ko pa ulit sila. And of course, I enjoyed Sef’s company the most. Hindi ko lubos akalain na sobrang PIKON pala ng loko-lokong toh!!! Haha. Sira Ellie, napikon agad yan kasi SAYO tinutukso!!! Hahaha. Oo na!!! Gusto kasi niya kay Lianne lang siya!!!

That managed to bring back my smile. “Hindi nuh! Sus. Sanay akong makisama sa mga sira-ulo… kita mo na, pati nga kasama ko ngayon oh! Haha.”
Sef grinned as though proud of the title. “Sira-ulo huh? Kaya pala…”
I looked up at him, making a face. “Kaya pala… ano?”
“Nothing.” He said, teasing me.
“Ah, ganun? Di mo sasabihin?” I frowned at him and playfully smacked him in the arm. Ano kaya yun?? Kaya pala, ano? Kaya pala… mahal ko na siya at takot lang akong aminin??? HAHAHAHA. Lechugas Ellie!! PAKYU!!
“Never mind, baka taguan mo nanaman ako. Haha.” With that Sef gave a laugh & my heart slightly jumped. I just love hearing him laugh like that… until I found myself completely lost, watching him still… and I realized… what if… what if for once… Oo, for once in your life Eleonor Malicsi Dimaculangan… just let yourself… f-f-fall… in l-love with this guy?? Okay lang, kahit panandalian lang… at least you can fool yourself even for just a little more while… kahit alam mo na yung ending… kahit alam mong HE IS NOT REALLY YOURS TO BEGIN WITH… I’d say, TAKE THE CHANCE… pag-bigyan mo naman yang puso mo kahit ngayon lang!!!

Isang BUS ang nasa harap ko ngayon at sa pinaka LIKURAN niya eh halatang kapipintura lang ng bagong commercial ni JOHN LLOYD CRUZ para sa endorsement niya naAyosDito.ph. Of course he looked dashing in that simple red chequered shirt he was wearing. Sa sobrang laki nung ad sa likod nung bus, pakiwari ko nakatitig tuloy si Lloydie sa akin while he was giving that cute smile of his & to my surprise… naka-pose siya, yung para siyang naka-THUMBS UP at tinuturo yung laptop na nasa likod niya as if saying “TRY IT NOW!!”
Napangiti ako. Ngayon ko lang kasi nakita itong bagong ad ni John Lloyd!!! Ang gwapo talaga… walang kakupas-kupas!!! Eh, teka nga Ellie!!! SAGLIT!!! At that very moment, habang tinititigan ko yung papalayong likuran nung bus… pakiramdam ko… pakiramdam ko talaga… pinamimigay ako ni Lloydie sa lalaking katabi ko ngayon!!!
