But time passed like a bird's
Molt. You never did listen to
Whatever we're told. I couldn't
Always reach you before you tried
To escape, to grow wings and
Pretend to be invincible in your hero's cape.
So that day you flew off
The overhang. I remember because
I could do nothing as
The toll of Death's bells rang.
I dove over after and
Retrieved what I could, and
You lived, you ecstatically did.
But, I think, I could never
Fetch every piece from the rocks at
The bottom of the ravine.
