It could not be real...
The world had stopped in Namjoon's mind. There was no sound, only that picture of Yejin's body on the ground, inert, bleeding. His legs refused to move. The two guards in charge of Yejin and Y/N's protection came. One stopped near Namjoon, asking him if he was hurt while the other one went near Mrs Son.
Guard: Madam... madam... can you hear me?
The guard didn't dare to touch her, not wanting to worsen her wounds.
Guard 2: Mr Namjoon... are you alright?
Few seconds earlier, in the café, the siblings were talking happily until a loud sound followed immediately by the explosion of the windows scared everyone. In a reflex, Jungkook grabbed Y/N and protected her from the broken glasses. Taehyung stood up to see what happened.
Taehyung: What the f*** is that! Minah, are you alright? Where is Aunty?
Minah: Yes... I don't know, there was maybe an accident outside...
Jungkook: Y/N... are you alright? Are you hurt somewhere?
Y/N: No... but where is Mom.... Mom... (She looked around but only saw the clients going near the windows and showing a shocked expression.) Mom...
Jungkook: She must be in the office... Hyung go check on Mom please.
Taehyung approached the office, but he stopped his steps near the entry. Smoke was coming from the car who destroyed the front door. He looked at the scene and saw Namjoon, standing there with the guard talking to him. He came closer to the car, the man inside seemed unconscious. He couldn't help him from his position. He found strange that Mrs Son didn't show up after that loud noise. Without knowing why, his heartbeat accelerated. He ran to the office but found no one.
Taehyung: Aunty... (He crossed the café and went outside by one of the broken window.) Hyung... are...
Guard: We are at xxxx, a woman was hit by a car, please send an ambulance fast!
Taehyung looked at the guard who was calling for help.
Jungkook: Hyung... where is Mom? (Jungkook was standing near the window, Y/N just near him.)
Taehyung couldn't answer. He was slowly walking toward that woman... that woman who was part of his life now. The second guard approached Jungkook.
Guard 2: Mr Jungkook, you should keep Miss inside.
Jungkook: Why... my brother is hurt???
Guard2: No... (He looked at Y/N, not capable to tell thetruth.) It's...
Y/N wanted to go outside to check on Namjoon's state, but Jungkook stopped her. He had teary eyes, afraid to understand the situation.
Jungkook: You stay here... I'm going to check on him.
Y/N couldn't object but returned near the counter, still waiting for her mother. Jungkook passed behind the car and saw Taehyung on his knees holding Yejin's hand. The guard was on his phone, guiding the rescue.
Jungkook: No... no... Mom... no, no... Hyung... it's not possible...
The second guard stayed outside and turned his back to call Mr Kim. The siren of the ambulance could be heard from afar. Y/N didn't find her mother in the café, and she sneaked outside, not seeing Jungkook coming back. She stopped near Namjoon and took his hand, worried.
Y/N: Namjoon Oppa...
Namjoon was taken from his stupor when he felt Y/N's hand grabbing his. He looked at her with a sad expression then to the direction where Yejin was. She followed her gaze and heard Jungkook calling her mother. Taehyung was on his knees, and she only saw a female silhouette on the ground. She let go of his hand and walked to their direction.
Y/N: ... Mom... Mommmmm....
Taehyung quickly stood up when he heard Y/N coming and he caught her in his arms before she could see the inert body of her mother.
Y/N: Mommm... Oppa... it's Mom... let me go!!!
Taehyung was holding Y/N against him tightly.
Y/N: Oppa... It's Mom... right... I need to see her... Mommmm
Taehyung: She will be okay... she will be okay... don't cry...
Taehyung was doing his best to reassure Y/N even if he was crying himself. He took her inside the café after passing near Namjoon who finally decided to move.
Namjoon: ... Is she...
Guard: She is barely breathing... the ambulance is on the way.
Jungkook: Mom please... you can't do that to us... think to Y/N...
Namjoon: How could that happen... it's my fault...
Inside the café Y/N was struggling with Taehyung to go to see her mother. She needed to see her, but her brother never let go of his strong grip. The second guard had informed Mr Kim of the accident and he went to check on the driver. Minah tried to console Y/N too.
2 minutes later, two ambulance parked, and the doctors treated Yejin.
Jungkook: Please... save my Mom...
Doctor: Please, we need space to help her, thank you.
Namjoon helped Jungkook to stand up and they gave them space. While giving the first aid to Mrs Son, the doctor was online with the closest hospital. The other medical team was extracting the driver from the car. They were ready to leave when two cars stopped nearby.
Mr Kim: ... Yejin... Yejin-ah... (He pushed the curious people around.)
When Mr Kim saw the woman he loved in that state, his world collapsed. Jin and Yoongi were just behind him, and they supported him. His body gave up, He couldn't do another step.
Doctor: Sir, excuse me, we need to take the patient to the hospital, we are losing her...
Mr Kim: No... it's not real... it can't happen...
Jin: We are her family, which hospital are you taking her?
Doctor: XXX hospital, please move!
Namjoon and Jungkook came near their father. Jungkook embraced him like he didn't do in years. He was now a young boy afraid to lose his second mother.
Yoongi: Namjoon, where is Y/N? And Taehyung?
Namjoon: He took her inside... I'm sorry... I couldn't...
Jin: Yoongi, go inside to check on the kids, I take Father to the hospital.
Jin, Mr Kim and Jungkook followed the ambulance. Yoongi entered the café and spotted Taehyung and Y/N sat on a corner. He was still holding her firmly. She was hiding her face against his chest, crying in silence.
Yoongi: Taehyung-ah... (He bent to their level and hugged them.) How are you both? Are you hurt somewhere? Y/N... Sweetie...
Taehyung: Hyung... how is Aunty? She is fine, right?
Y/N: Oppa... I want my Mommmm...
Yoongi: She is on her way to the hospital... let's go. (He took Y/N in his arms.) Namjoon, we are leaving!
The ride to the hospital was silent. Only the sobs of Y/N could be heard. Taehyung was holding her hand with the same one he held her mother's hand few minutes ago. When they entered the waiting room of the ER, Mr Kim, Jin and Jungkook were waiting in silence.
Y/N: Uncle... (She ran toward him, and he hugged her.)
Mr Kim: Oh my poor baby... Mom will be okay, she is strong, she will be okay... shhh... it's gonna be okay...
Mr Kim was repeating the same words as if he wanted to persuade himself. Jin took Jungkook to the restrooms so he could clean his hands full of Yejin's blood. Yoongi was called by the two guards, so he excused himself and joined them outside of the hospital.
Guard: Sir... we think that it was not an accident. The car deliberately finished it race on the sidewalk... clearly targeting Mr Namjoon... But Mrs Son pushed him, to save his life... and she was hit by the car.
Yoongi was containing his anger. He had to keep his mind clear to handle everything.
Yoongi: How is the driver doing? We need to question him.
Guard 2: He was in a critical state too, he was taken in another hospital but two of our men went over there. We will keep you inform of the evolution of the situation.
Guard: We are also trying to recover the CCTV tapes.
Yoongi: Thanks. Send someone to pick up Hoseok and Jimin.
The two men nodded and left to continue their jobs. When he returned to the waiting room, things were the same. Yoongi stared at Namjoon who was wearing an expressionless face. Y/N was sitting on Mr Kim's laps. He was holding her in his arms in a protective way, murmuring to her that everything would be okay.
After 30 minutes, Jimin and Hoseok arrived. They sat near their brothers without uttering a word. It was not the right moment. Hours passed before the doctor in charge of Yejin came out from the operation room, followed by 2 nurses. Mr Kim put Y/N on the chair and stood up to meet the doctor.
Mr Kim: Doctor... how is my wife?
Doctor: I am deeply sorry...
At that instant, everyone stared at the doctor without breathing. It could not happen. She couldn't die like that. She couldn't abandon them.
Doctor: Your baby is no more... Your wife was severally injured, she is in a coma, and we need to wait for her to wake up to see the ampler of the damages. I can't tell you when she will wake up. We will move her to a room after 24 hours of close monitoring.
Mr Kim: I need to see her... please...
The doctor felt everyone gazes on him and spotted that little girl who seemed desperate.
Doctor: It's against the rules but... for your daughter, only 5 minutes, please follow us.
Mr Kim: Thank you... Sweetie... (He took her hand and followed them.)
After the doctor announcement, Jin and Yoongi exchanged a sad gaze. Knowing that Yejin was pregnant was more painful for them. They knew how their father was happy by that future baby and them too, were wondering what it would be to have a new little human in the family. A mini-Y/N...
Hoseok: How could that happen? Hyung... what if...
Jin: No, it won't happen. She will recover, we have to trust her. She would never abandon Y/N, never...
Yoongi: Hyung is right. We need to be strong, for Y/N and Father. Namjoon... we...
Namjoon ran outside. He couldn't bear what he had heard. He needed fresh air. He felt responsible for what happened. She saved his life but her baby, his father's baby, his sibling... was killed because of him.
Yoongi: Namjoon... I know how you feel but blaming yourself won't change anything. You were not the one driving that car!
Namjoon: It's my fault... I should have seen that car coming!!!
In the waiting room, the youngers were crying in silence. In fact, they didn't talk since they arrived at the hospital.
Jin: Guys... are you okay. I know that it's difficult to hear.
Jimin: Hyung... you knew... you knew that she was pregnant?
Jin: Yes, I found out... but there is nothing to do now except to show our love and support to them.
Mr Kim and Y/N came back. Y/N was still crying and Mr Kim had red eyes.
Jimin: Dad... Aunty will wake up soon, I'm sure!
Mr Kim: Yes Son, she will. You should all go home. I'm going to stay here with Yejin. Y/N, you...
Y/N: No! I'm not leaving my Mom!!!
Mr Kim: Sweetie, you saw Mom, she is asleep for now. You know that she would like you to go home with your brothers.
Jimin: Y/N... please, come back home with us. We have to be strong to not disappoint Aunty when she will wake up! Please...
Y/N didn't want to leave her mother. She was too afraid to go home and that something happen while she was away.
Y/N: I'm staying here with Mom.
Mr Kim nodded to Jin who went to the nurses' office. They knew that Y/N would never leave the hospital on her own will. He will have to use a trick to take her home.
Jin: Hoseok, come with me to buy drinks, please.
Hoseok: What is your plan to make her go home with us?
Jin: The doctor prescribed sleeping pills, I am not happy to do that, but she is not letting me other choice.
Hoseok: She will probably blame you later.
Jin: I know... and you will be there for her...
Jin and Hoseok came back with the special drink for Y/N. The little girl firstly refused to even touch it at first, but Mr Kim convince her. In less than 10 minutes, Y/N was sleeping against Mr Kim's shoulder. He caressed her hair with affection and sadness.
Mr Kim: Kids... go home, there is nothing that you can do here.
Yoongi: Let me carry her... Father... are you sure to want to stay here alone?
Mr Kim: Yes, and please take care of your siblings...
Hoseok: We will, Dad; call us if Yejin wakes up. I will come back tomorrow morning anyway.
The brothers left their father with a heavy heart. Jin saw Mr Park, his father's secretary, going near the head of the family. He sat in silence and put a hand on Mr Kim back.
The ride back home seemed an eternity for the youngers. Jungkook and Taehyung went to shower for a long moment, hoping that everything was just a nightmare. Namjoon stopped by his father's office as soon as he got home. Yoongi put Y/N in her bed and Jimin stayed with her.
Jin: I need to drink something strong...
Yoongi: Here, take this. (He handed him a glass of whisky.)
Jungkook: Hyung, I want some pills to sleep too... I want to sleep until Mom wakes up...
Jin: Jungkook, I can give you something to help you to relax, but you know that it will not change the reality.
Jungkook: Reality sucks!
Yoongi: You should eat something and go to rest.
Jungkook: How do you want me to rest after that! Mom... Mom is dying!
Jungkook was recalling his worst memory; his real mother's death after fighting cancer. He was only 8 when she passed away. He wanted to believe that Yejin would be fine, but it was difficult to imagine a happy ending.
Jin: Yejin is not dying, you have to be positive. She will overcome that ordeal; she is a strong woman.
Taehyung: (He just arrived.) What if she can't? What will happen to Y/N?
Yoongi: What do you mean? Y/N is part of our family, and the question does not arise, Yejin will wake up.
Jin: Tae, I know that it is not easy but if we are not showing hope, Y/N will not be able to overcome that tragedy, neither you.
Upstairs, Hoseok took something to eat for Jimin. Y/N was sleeping thanks to the medicine, and they didn't know when she would wake up. They had to be present for her. She will be angry to have been tricked but they didn't have other choice.
Hoseok left after an hour and Jimin fell asleep near Y/N after crying in silence for 20 minutes. Each brothers had difficulties to find sleep that night. Namjoon didn't even leave his father's office. Mr Nam found him still working on his computer in the morning and informed Jin.
Jin: Thanks, Mr Nam. Please prepare clean clothes for Father. We will leave for the hospital soon.
Mr Nam: Everything is ready, but you are not waiting for Miss Y/N to wake up before leaving?
Jin: Visits are not permitted for now. Y/N needs to rest.
Hoseok was ready to go to the hospital with Jin and was surprised to see Jungkook and Taehyung waiting for him. They had decided to go with them.
When they arrived at the hospital, they found their father with Mr Park. The CEO was showing tired traits but tried to give a reassuring smile to his children. There was no difference in Yejin's state. Despite that, he was glad that she passed the critical hours post surgery without incident. In few hours, he would be able to stay near her.
Mr Kim went to refresh himself and the two teenagers had in mind to sneak in Yejin's room without no one notice them.
Jin: What are you two planning?! Don't do something stupid!
Taehyung: Hyung, we need to see her... even for just 2 minutes.
Jin: In few hours she will be transferred, be patient.
The two boys returned to sit, keeping their frustration for themselves. Jin went to talk with the doctor in charge to ask question about the next steps to help for Yejin's recovery. Unfortunately, the doctor told Jin that they was a huge possibility that Mrs Son would not be able to walk in the future. There was an important hematoma in her low back area, and she had also several broken bones; her left forearm and left knee were touched.
Jin came back to the waiting room with a close face. He was digesting the news. Hoseok tried to question him but the eldest stay mute.
At home, Yoongi went to check on Y/N. He was worried that she was still sleeping. When he entered her bedroom, Jimin was just waking up.
Yoongi: Jimin-ah, how is Y/N doing? She didn't wake up last night?
Jimin: No... she slept all along. The medicine wasn't too strong?
Yoongi: No, don't worry. (He caressed her head.) Y/N, Y/N... you have to wake up now. Sweetie...
Y/N: ...mmmm... Oppa...
Yoongi: Oppa is here Sweetie. How do you feel this morning?
Y/N sat. She was not well awake yet and she needed few seconds to recall what happened with her mother. Her expression changed.
Y/N: Mom... where is Mom... why am I here... where is Mom?!
Yoongi: Sweetie, calm down. Your Mom is still at the hospital with my Father. You fell asleep so we took you here last night.
Jimin: Y/N... you were very tired. Dad will call us as soon as we can see her.
Y/N pushed Jimin to stand up, but Yoongi grabbed her arm.
Yoongi: Where are you going?
Y/N: I'm going to see Mom.
Yoongi: Y/N... you can't see her for now, it's useless to go there.
Y/N: No, it's not! (She tried to make him lose his grip.)
Jimin: Hyung, let her go refresh first and we can talk after.
Yoongi released Y/N and she went to her bathroom after grabbing clothes. Jimin stayed in her room while Yoongi went downstairs and asked Mr Nam to prepare her breakfast. When she came back to her room, she was surprised to see Jimin, sitting at the border of her bed, looking down like lost in his thoughts. She approached him and noticed his red eyes.
Y/N: Oppa... Oppa...
Jimin: hum... are you done? Sorry... I know that you don't need a crying Oppa right now but someone who you can count onto...
Y/N: No... (She hugged him and hid her face in the crook of his neck.) Oppa... (Sobbing.) Oppa is sad too... for Mom... Oppa... I want Mom to come home...
Jimin: I want to see her too, I want to play with her, to eat delicious food with her, to see her annoyed by Dad's behavior... and we will share a lot of moments again but for now... we have to entrust her to the doctors. You know that Dad will do everything for her.
Y/N: ...
Jimin: If we are not taking care of us now, we won't be able to take care of Aunty when she will come back home. (Y/N stopped crying, thanks to the soft voice of Jimin.) Let's go eat something and after that, I promise to take you to the hospital. (She nodded.)
Yoongi was relieved to see Y/N coming down in a better state of mind. She didn't eat a lot, but it was better than nothing.
Jimin: Hyung, I'm going to the hospital with Y/N.
Yoongi: I will drive you...
After a silent ride, they reached the hospital and Y/N came to hug Mr Kim. He asked her how she was feeling, and she did her maximum to retain her tears.
After driving Jimin and Y/N to the hospital, Yoongi greeted his father rapidly before going back home. He needed to see Namjoon. He was worried of his way to manage his guilty feeling after the accident.
Yoongi: Namjoon, did you manage to sleep a little?
Namjoon: No, I don't have time for this.
Yoongi: Why that? What is so important for you? You look like a zombie?
Namjoon didn't answer to his brother and continue to tap on his laptop. Yoongi was not in a good day to accept that type of behavior from on of his younger brother. He closed the laptop and Namjoon just had the time to take off his hands.
Namjoon: What the F***! Hyung!
Yoongi: I must be dreaming... who are you talking to?
Namjoon: (Long sigh.) I'm sorry... but I need to work on this!
Yoongi: Why? What is it more important than your family?
Namjoon: It is about our family... it was not an accident... I was the target and I am sure that it was Son Park's doing!
