200 words a day [drabble-ish]

Day 26, Doubt, Overcharge

Manfred had not been out of his room for almost a week now, and all of them were worried sick. Bernie had slipped in and out a couple of times, to check on his well-being, Sean had said. All of them knew that the Skuggi was checking whether the young man was alive or not. Manfred himself had built himself sort of a fort in the corner beneath his desk. The lamps in the room were off, and he had filled the space under his desk with as many blankets and pillows he could fit. The light hurt his head, all textures hurt, but blankets and pillows were easier than wood. Manfred had no doubt that one of the demons inside of him was to blame. He was curled together staring sightlessly in front of him. The blankets and pillows made the small space almost unbearingly hot, but the demons inside of him preened at the heat. A part of Manfred knew that he was overcharged. He had read about it sometime, but then it had been that a weak-minded human had tried to bond with a much stronger demon. It usually ended the same way: death. Manfred knew he wouldn't have it that easy.
