Poor Sightless Bird

33 3 1
By Pinkpuppies76

One of the most pitiful occurrences in life
And saddening situations to exist
Not a flightless bird, but a sightless bird
Able to fly but is afraid to take to the skies
As a result of its disability
long ago, a bird had its sight forcefully taken, robbed
Prior to his blinding, he would spread his wings as far as possible
That all changed after a pivotal encounter with a hawk
The delicate bird began his morning in search of worms
He descended his nest and flew with a palpable grace
Hiding behind a cloud was a spiteful hawk
Who, too, was in pursuit of a morning meal
The hawk watched as the bird foraged
Awaiting the opportune moment
The hawk suddenly emerged, bearing its talons
Hoping to capture the defenseless bird
To the surprise of the hawk
The bird fought back as hard as feasible
Pecking and squirming, aiming to flee
The now angered hawk took its talons to the bird's eyes
Gouging them out of his eye sockets
Wincing in pain, the bird managed to escape
Yet, his flight home was not without difficulty
Trees had now become his enemies
His ears, now his best friends
Eventually, he heard the tweets of his flock
Unknown to him, their faces gave a look of pity
Now burdened with limitations and drawbacks
Prevent the bird from flying safely with his group
The bird is incapable of foraging for food
So, he must be dependent on others
But what happens when his companions perish?
The sightless bird will too
He alone will lay dead
With no one to dig his grave, an inevitable truth
Meanwhile, the hawk searches for a new manageable victim
Why do we blind our birds?
Must we prone such fragile creatures to hindrance?

For as long as you can, avoid becoming a hawk.

Side note: Once again, thank you so much for reading my poetry; it means more than you'll ever know. Please vote and comment, I'd greatly appreciate it!
