Here we were, just a few strikes away from freeing the universe and destroying Zarkon once and for all, our biggest battle yet.
"We have to act fast"Shiro said "The power will only be cut for 20 minutes. The Blade of Marmora schematics showed four objectives that we need to hit. The weapon systems, the engine, the bridge, and the shield generators"
The paladins cheered in agreement and immediately went to work. They formed their sword and began slashing and stabbing at Zarkon's ship, causing some areas to erupt in bright, loud explosions.
Coran, Ally and I watched the battle from the castle, Ally moved closer to me feeling a bit nervous, as I hugged her tighter to reassure her. Suddenly I heard a moan, I looked at Allura and I could see how she slowly opened her eyes
"Allura" I said feeling happy and relieved, drawing the attention of Ally and Coran, who smiled seeing her awake
"Are you okay?" Ally quickly asked with concern
"I'm good." Allura reassured her before shifting her gaze to the view outside, seeing Voltron in action "...We've done it. This is the end of Zarkon's reign." she whispered
"Yes, princess" Coran murmured softly
"Can you believe it?" Allura let out a small laugh, coughing a bit at the end.
"Eh, I had my doubts when I met them, but I must admit that they really impressed me" I confessed in a playful way, while Allura nudged me with a proud smile on her face
"You never miss an opportunity to make a sarcastic comment, do you?" Coran falsely complained, letting out a small laugh.
"It's my style" I said without any shame, Ally laughed too and hugged me from behind, shaking her head
We saw the paladins destroy apart Zarkon's ship. Who would have thought that the redhead and his friends had come this far? I formed a small smile and leaned my head against Ally's, stroking her arm around me, she could finally grow up in a free universe. something that i couldn't do, but the good thing was that I would enjoy it with her and probably with the rest of the paladins
Suddenly, I felt as if an uncomfortable feeling hit my entire body from a mysterious direction, my markings began to glow purple and a dark, but almost familiar, aura surrounded Zarkon's ship.
I looked at ship and frowned curiously, while narrowing my eyes "Something is going on inside Zarkon's command center" I said, lightly touching my cheeks, drawing the attention of Allura, Coran and Ally
"What?" Ally asked
"What are you talking about?" Allura asked something nervous
"I don't know how to explain it, but it feels like someone charged something with some kind of dark energy, something huge like a planet and it's inside Zarkon's command center". I explained, trying to find with my eyes the origin of that feeling "feels so familiar"
"Um, I think I already know what produces it" Coran said with fear, shakily pointing to a point on the ship
We followed his gaze and noticed how a huge black and purple sphere began to appear on a platform, releasing some rays around, just below Voltron.
"What is that thing?" Allura asked in disbelief.
I looked at the sphere with interest when an image appeared in front of my eyes, showing that same sphere, being launched to a green and blue planet, snatching all the life it once had and filling with power a rare purple capsule that was inside, stored on top of that platform
"Oh no" I whispered in horror, coming back to reality and before I even said anything, the sphere was released in the same way as in my vision
"No!" Allura and I screamed in terror. The energy ball hit Voltron and began to drain all of his power. Ally gasp of fear and hid her face on my shoulder, while I hugged her tightly, trying to prevent her from seeing that horrible scene
Multiple bolts of lightning shot out of Voltron, as we heard the paladins' cries of suffering, until finally, the shot stopped and left the robot floating in space, unconscious from the attack.
"Paladins! Can you hear me!?" Coran asked quickly opening a communication with the paladins, but got no response. "I thought the virus would shut down all Zarkon's energy," he recalled, looking directly at Kolivan.
"The explosion wasn't from the weapons, it was magic," Allura pointed out.
"It must have been the Komar," Kolivan revealed, making me finally look at him.
"The Komar?" ask something nervous
"Zarkon has been developing an artifact to extract the quintessence of planets, he was preparing for when he finally obtained the light of the universe" I widened my eyes upon hearing that explanation, that weapon was designed specifically for me or at least, to extract the light of the universe
"If that weapon was designed to suck the light out of the universe, what did it do to paladins?" I wondered out loud, feeling horrified by the answer.
Quickly, Allura called the paladins back, fearing for her safety, "Paladins, Shiro! Do you hear me?" She asked, but nobody answered, the only thing that could be heard was static.
Ally started sobbing and hugging me harder seeing the lack of response, I could feel her tears wet my clothes, but I didn't care, I just started stroking her back and trying to comfort her. I closed my eyes sadly, I couldn't bear to lose my family again
Allura looked at the ground and Coran placed a hand on her shoulder with regret. Was this really the end of Voltron?
at that moment, we heard something in the communicators "we hear you princess, we are alive" Shiro's voice resounded in the room, our eyes widened in surprise and we raised our heads with a smile of relief They were alive!
"They are fine!" Ally celebrated, looking at the communicator and wiping away her tears. I let out a huge sigh of relief and placed my hand on my chest, feeling my soul return to my body.
"This mission will end up killing me, my heart can't take these scares" I complained, taking a deep breath and slowly getting up from the ground along with Ally, Allura and Coran
"oh thank you ancestors" Coran said also relieved
"Is Voltron working?" Allura asked with concern
"does not respond" Hunk groaned in pain
"I can't move my lion" Keith said, also letting out a small pained sigh.
"They attacked them with a type of sorcery that extracts the inner quintessence, designed specifically for planets and the light of the universe" I explained, scanning Voltron's energy levels and as I guessed, they were at zero percent capacity
"Your have to get out of there, maybe your won't survive another explosion like that" Coran ordered, when I noticed something in one of the corners of Zarkon's ship
"What is that?" Lance asked, noticing the same as me.
a hatch opened from the ship and from it, a huge combat robot the same height as Voltron rose to the surface, it was red and gray in color, with glowing purple eyes, huge sharp wings behind it and had a terrifying resemblance to the fearsome emperor who had given me life
"Zarkon" I whispered, while Ally hid behind me, terrified by the image
"Paladins! They have to get moving! Remember your training! remember all the battles you've been through!" Allura encouraged them, but Voltron still didn't move.
"Voltron still not responding!" Shiro growled in frustration, before moaning in pain, surely Zarkon was trying to control the black lion again.
"We must give them more time, get you closer, divert the energy of our weaponry" Allura ordered, looking directly at Coran who was clearly nervous and worried by the suggestion
"We will be defenseless" Coran remembered
Allura and I looked at each other, before nodding, if we wanted to save our friends, we had to accept the risks "it's the only way out" Allura murmured decisively. the castle's thrusters ignited and she took off at full speed towards Zarkon
I gently took Ally's shoulders and mentally begged Kaede to protect us from whatever came next, wherever she was.
"Listen well, now you are real paladins, connect to your lions, call each other, fight, it must not end now!" Allura encouraged the spirits of the paladins not to give up, while all of the castle's defenses, including the particle barrier, were concentrated into a single attack.
having the shot ready, we did not hesitate for a second to shoot and a huge beam came out of our ship and crossed the space, heading fiercely towards Zarkon, but something happened. Zarkon's wings protected him and caught the beam, before we could defeat him, pushing him back
When Zarkon managed to hold on to his own ship, he flapped his wings in our direction and the other end of the Castle's attack came back at us directly. I quickly crouched down and wrapped my body around Ally, trying to protect her from the impact, the shot slammed into us and a horrible electrical blast hit us, making us scream in pain, before all was lost in the darkness.
(time jump)
I let out a small moan and slowly opened my eyes, I was surprised that he wasn't dead yet, that shot would bother me a lot in the morning. I looked around and realized that the entire room was dark, completely deactivated, while Allura, Coran, Kolivan, Antok and I were floating around the place, but from what I could see, they were fine too.
At that moment I remembered something very important, my eyes widened and I quickly looked at the small figure of a certain redhead, motionless in my arms "Ally?" I asked concerned, she moaned and coughed a bit, before looking up and giving me a small smlle.
I sighed in relief and hugged her "are you okay?" I asked, checking her body for injuries.
"My head just hurts a little, but I'll be fine" she assured, hugging me tighter "thank you for protecting me"
I let out a small laugh and nodded "you're welcome midget, I already saved you once, obviously I'd do it again" I remembered, brushing her hair with my fingers
"Princess!" Coran's voice caught our attention, we looked to our left and saw how he quickly approached Allura "are you okay?"
Allura moaned a bit, before slowly opening her eyes tiredly "yeah I'm fine" she assured, directing her gaze slightly towards Ally and me "Raya, Ally, are you guys okay?"
"We're just a little dizzy, but we'll be fine, Allura," I said, as Ally nodded to confirm, "how damaged is the castle, Coran?"
Coran floated over to the central computer and barely turned it on. "Our power is depleted, communication no longer working, no contact with the paladins," he announced, looking at the damage to the castle, "I'm afraid we can no longer fight."
"We can't give up yet" Allura said decisively, when we heard someone open the doors of the room, we looked towards the entrance and could see Slav, joining us
"Did we win yet?" Slav asked. I growled out loud and looked at Allura with irritation.
"Oh that's good, he's still alive" I complained, while Ally moaned in disgust, seeing that Slav was still safe
"Coran, you and Slav do what you can to get the Castle functioning again" Allura ordered, before looking at Kolivan and Antok, "Kolivan, can you take me to the Komar?"
"It will be dangerous, but I know a way," Kolivan said, nodding.
"You and Antok follow me, we will attack the witch head-on to stop that thing" Allura ordered, floating towards the exit together with Antok and Kolivan
"I'll go with you" I volunteered, leaving Ally in my seat and following close behind, surprising Allura.
"what? no, you're too important, you need to stay here" she said, trying to block my way
"It's late little princess, I've already decided" I added, easily dodging Allura and continuing on my way "I am the bearer of the light of the universe, so I decide if I go or not"
"Exactly, you are the bearer of the light of the universe, if the plan fails..." Allura said, standing in front of me again, but before she could continue protesting, I interrupted her.
"The plan already failed as soon as my daddy went out the back door" I remembered, crossing my arms. "now it's up to us to prevent those colored fools from receiving another death ray, courtesy of the Komar"
"Raya..." she growled, but I raised my hand and covered her mouth.
"Nothing you do will change my mind, and besides, our truce of eternal peace obliges me to protect every member of this family, that includes capricious princesses like you."
Allura started clenching her teeth behind my palm and muttering a lot of things in Altan that I assumed weren't nice things, but in the end she sighed in defeat and took my hand from her mouth "you're impossible" she groaned, showing a small annoyed smile
"But you know that's my charm" he joked, looking slightly at Ally "Ally, I want you to stay there until Coran and Slav get the power back from the Castle, can you do that?"
Ally groaned a little and melted into my seat, crossing her arms "why did I have a feeling you wouldn't let me join you?" She wondered out loud, before reluctantly nodding.
"I promise I'll make it up to you midget" I promised, winking, before glancing quickly at Coran "keep an eye on her Coran and please don't let Slav near her" I said, clenching his teeth and looking at the multi-limbed worm in the last part dangerously, causing him to tremble a bit, feeling intimidated by my expression
"Let's go, we have little time" Kolivan reminded, placing his hand on my shoulder and the four of us continued to float towards the exit.
"Coran, the bridge is yours" Allura added
"¡No! You've been weakened by operating the teludav. You can't face Haggar directly!." Coran protested, as Kolivan stood next to me with his arms crossed.
"We have no choice" Allura said, showing no fear at that reminder and neither did I, no matter how powerful Zarkon's witch was, I wouldn't let her or anyone else hurt my family.
I entered a one-person pod and Allura, Kolivan, Antok, and I flew in formation toward Zarkon's command center, avoiding the battle on our side. We finally reached the komar which was being activated again.
It was something terrifying, I was surrounded by different hooded men very similar to the terrifying man that Keith and I had met in Zarkon's secret base. Which considering that they probably had the same powers, I think it would be very difficult to complete this mission
Kolivan and Allura jumped out of their individual ships and landed on a platform. Kolivan kicked one of those... druids? Is that what paladins called them? To Allura, letting her make the first attack with her white staff, while Antok and I quickly joined them, ready to fight.
"Attack!" A harsh, yet somewhat familiar voice commanded furiously, I guessed she was Zarkon's witch. Haggar? The two remaining druids headed toward us on their own platforms. Antok and I jumped onto one of the druid platforms while Allura and Kolivan fought the other enemy.
The druid fired his dark lightning at me and Antok, but I managed to dodge it, using my own powers to parry his attack, firing another bolt that obviously collided with each other, Antok took advantage of that and swung his sword, but the druid blocked the attack with a shield made by their own powers
While he was distracted by Antok, i reformed a bolt of energy and threw it at him, but again he was faster than us and was gone before my powers hit him. We attacked and dodged his different blows over and over again, without anyone getting close or making a direct attack.
I look at Allura for a fraction of a second, long enough to see her defeat the other druid, which was a bit annoying, as Antok and I continued to fight without reaching a final blow that would define our victory. I am the bearer of the Light of the universe! Why can't I do something as simple as defeat a druid!?
Antok swung his sword, seconds before the druid teleported away again, successfully slashing his shoulder. However, before either of us could take advantage of that same distraction. I saw slightly from a distance that a violet light was directed towards Antok, hitting directly on his arm, making him kneel in pain.
The druid, seeing his opportunity, formed a sphere of energy in his hand and lunged at Antok ready to kill him, but just as the enemy was about to deliver the final blow. I formed a sphere of my own energy and shot a beam at it. knocking him to the ground and immobilizing him for a few seconds. giving Antok, albeit wounded, the opportunity to jump from the ground and stab the terrifying man with his sword.
When we were finally sure he was dead, we both sighed, relieved "thank you princess" Antok thanked, bowing slightly
rolled my eyes in annoyance at my supposed title and sighed heavily. "please just tell me Raya" I pleaded
"Princess!?" The same voice that had ordered his minions to attack us screamed right above us, I looked up and my eyes widened in horror at what I was seeing. I couldn't believe it, there was a horrible blue-skinned woman, hooded, with red marks on her cheeks and yellow eyes full of coldness.
The same image that once disturbed my dreams, the same image that haunted me for two years in my nightmares. She really existed and she was in front of me right now
"You" I whispered, not believing what my eyes were seeing.
"You!" She repeated, teleporting in front of me and pushing me into the void, only for us to reappear on her platform again.
"Stripe!" I heard Allura's voice in the distance. I fell to the ground after feeling the platform and Haggar jumped on top of me, trying to strangle me, while I tried to move her away,
"How the hell are you still alive!? You were supposed to be dead!" Haggar yelled, trying to grab my neck.
"What... what are you talking about?" I asked, feeling my voice tremble a little from the effort. I could see how our hands began to shine, feeling a slight heat in them that began to grow to the point of being almost unbearable.
"It is assumed that I...!" Before she responded, a staff hit her in the face, knocking the witch away from me. I looked up and saw Allura, kneeling down and holding out her hand to help me up.
"Are you okay?" she asked, worried
I let out a sigh of relief and nodded slowly "I'm fine, wow, I never thought the day would come when I'd be really happy to see you" I joked, taking her hand and getting up from the ground
"There are already two of us" she said, continuing with the joke, but we didn't have time to relax, a lightning bolt flew towards us, separating us a bit. We both looked at Haggar and she started shooting different beams at us which we quickly dodged.
"What do we do!?" I asked, trying to avoid the deadly attacks headed my way.
"We beat her! No matter what the risk is!" Allura responded, doing the same as me. I nodded in confirmation accepting the plan, well if you can call that a plan
We both took different paths and ran towards her. Allura used her staff to deflect her attacks, while I used my powers and the two of us sent the witch's lightning back, knocking her to the ground again, causing her hood to fall off.
The witch stayed on the ground for a while, before glaring at us again angrily, revealing her face completely, Allura and I gasped at the same time the moment we saw her hideous, wrinkled face, in shock.
"Are you Altean?" Allura gasped, shocked at this turn of events. However, the witch took advantage of our confusion and fired another bolt of energy at him.
"Allura!" I yelled, pushing her aside and taking the shot instead. I felt like my body was hit by Haggar's lightning, making me moan and cover my face with my arms, but something strange happened, I felt no pain, my body was being hit by an explosion of destructive energy and yet I felt nothing.
Instead, I felt like something was mixing with that energy, purifying a small part and the other just being absorbed into my body, like an energy diverter. My markings began to glow white and a small, almost star-like purple and blue light appeared on my chest, surrounding me in a purple and white aura.
My eyes finally opened and I looked closely at my hand, "what?" whisper
Haggar's eyes widened and she took a few steps back as Allura slowly rose from the ground, shocked at what she was seeing "the light of the universe?" she asked, incredulous
"Impossible!" Haggar scream
I made a fist with my hand and smiled a little, straightening up and slowly approaching the witch Zarkon. She frowned and quickly followed me shooting bolts of magic, trying to keep me away, but with each bolt that touched my body. the light of the universe sucked him in like a black hole.
"Is everything the best you have?" I scoffed, forming a ball of energy in my hand that was blue in color and threw it at her, knocking her off her feet and slamming her to the ground. "Okay, now it's my turn!" I screamed, hitting the ground with my fist and releasing all the energy I had absorbed, causing the komar to be destroyed in a matter of seconds, due to a huge explosion that spread throughout the place.
Haggar rose again, but, defeated, disappeared from sight in a flash of shadow before we could stop her. I got up from the ground and the brightness that surrounded me disappeared, along with the light of the universe, returning inside my body
I looked at my chest, placing my hand on it. So this is what the light of the universe looked like, but something seemed to be wrong, in the photos of Tivar it seemed to be white, but this one was blue and purple, what did it mean?
Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder, I glanced slightly to my side, discovering Allura's worried expression "are you okay?
I looked back at where Haggar was and sighed trying to forget about these design doubts. "Meh, I just got turned into a living lightning bolter, but I think I can live with that." I joked, shrugging.
At that moment, a huge earthquake shook the ship and explosions began to surround us due to the lack of the komar. The light of the universe had fallen behind "Come on!" Kolivan ordered us, standing on a platform next to us and helping Antok to walk.
We jumped onto his platform and entered our individual ships, quickly returning to the castle of lions that had flown below us seconds ago so we could safely enter it. After entering the hangars of the ship, we ran to the bridge of the castle, noticing how the enormous facilities were once again in operation.
As soon as we entered the castle bridge, Ally ran over to me, jumping into my arms and giving me a big hug, happy that we were all safe. "Raya! I'm glad everyone is fine!" she celebrated
"How little faith you have in me dwarf" I joked returning the hug
Unfortunately, Zarkon's ship's power was back on as well, but we arrived just in time to see Voltron engage the fearsome emperor, using his sword to stab Zarkon in the chest. However, that doesn't work and the intimidating enemy robot grabs Voltron's head, causing ripples of purple electricity to appear throughout Voltron.
However, just when we thought it was all over for our friends, Voltron's sword will transform, into one surrounded by fire, cutting Zarkon's armor in half and destroying it with an incredibly powerful blast, causing the lions to separate and float in different directions.
"Did we do it?" hear Lance ask after a short silence
"Was over?" Hunk adds as the yellow lion regains its footing.
"I have Allura and the others. We have to go!" Coran said urgently as the lions began to return to the Castle. However, when everyone started to move, I realized that the black lion was still floating in space.
"Shiro!" Keith exclaims, noticing the same thing.
"We need to tow it back to the ship!" Pidge says as the green and red lions grab Shiro and take him to their hangar. "We are inside the castle, princess." She announced and a wormhole appeared in front of us, transporting us away from Zarkon's command center.
After making sure we were safe, Ally, Allura, Coran, and I ran to Black Lion's hangar to check on Shiro, meeting the rest of the paladins on the way, running at the same speed as us. "Shiro!" Keith yelled, as he ran in front of everyone
Upon arrival, we entered the Lion's cabin and looked around for Shiro. "Shiro?" Keith called out to him again, but as we approached his seat, we were all speechless.
His seat was empty, the only thing there was, was his Bayard resting on its platform, Shiro had disappeared out of nowhere, almost as if he had vanished into thin air "he's not there" Lance whispered, surprised, asking the question we all had in our heads, where the hell was Shiro?
