Shoes were the worst. Jazmyn had almost forced Lupita to wear them and they were itching her skin. How could humans walk around in these?

They were on their way to what Jazmyn called the "cafeteria". Apparently, they could get food there.

"Do you have any money?" Jazmyn suddenly asked when they were in front of two doors.

"No," Lupita said but checked her backpack to see if she had anything. She only had a few coins, she doubted they would give her anything.

"I can get you something. What do you want to eat?" Jazmyn asked and opened the doors to the room. It was weird. There were many long tables and people seemed to be sitting in groups, mostly grouped by species.

"Anything with meat," Lupita answered and covered her ears at all the noise that was immediately made known when Jazmyn opened the doors. Her nose was also bombarded with thousands of different smells, some more pleasant than others.

"I'll get that for you," Jazmyn said and gave her an apologetic smile. "If you go over to that table over there -" she pointed at a table where Lupita could see the faerie boy and mermaid from before sitting -"Mia will most likely have something for you and I will be sitting there." Jazmyn patted her back and walked away.

Lupita looked after her and then reluctantly walked over to the table where her friends sat. She didn't want to make any friends, and especially not faeries.

The table went silent when she sat down; her hands still covering her ears. The only two people at the table eyed her suspiciously over their food.

"Who are you?" the girl asked with a thick accent.

"Jazmyn told me to sit here," Lupita answered.

"Why are you covering your ears?" the girl asked and pointed at her hands.

"It is very loud in here," Lupita said, irritated.

"Oh!" she said, way too loudly, and reached into her bag. "I finally have a use for these." She pulled something black out of her bag and handed it to Lupita.

"What is that?" Lupita asked and looked at the weird thing. She had seen humans wear them before, but she never knew what they were.

"They are headphones," the girl said and forced them down on her head.

The "headphones" covered Lupita's ears and the sound around her was immediately silenced. Lupita sighed out in relief and leaned back.

"Ey, worked?" the girl asked and gave her a weird nod.

Lupita just nodded.

"I'm Mia, and this is Aoi," Mia said and stuck out her hand.

"Lupita," Lupita said and cautiously shook her hand.

"Spanish?"

"From Norway."

"But the name is Spanish."

"My parents were weird."

"Or maybe they were just Spanish."

"They weren't."

"Getting along?"

Lupita turned and saw Jazmyn come over with a tray in her hands.

"You could say that," Mia said and smiled.

"What about you Aoi?" Jazmyn asked the faerie boy who had been quiet.

"She seems cool," he said absently and picked at the food on his plate.

"Nice," Jazmyn said and sat down beside Lupita on the opposite side of the two others and placed the tray down. "I didn't have that much money so I hope it is ok with just this." She handed Lupita a sandwich wrapped in a napkin.

"Thank you," Lupita said and happily began eating the sandwich.

They all ate their food in silence, well, Lupita ate her food in silence, Jazmyn and Mia were talking nonstop. Aoi was quiet, which didn't surprise Lupita; faeries weren't known to be talkative.

Suddenly, a voice sounded from behind them.

"Hey losers," they said.

Lupita turned around and saw a boy walking towards them.

"Go away Jeremy," Mia said and pointed her fork at him.

"Wow, I'm so scared. She has a trident, everyone!" the boy - apparently named Jeremy - shouted.

Laughter echoed through the room and Mia sank back in her seat.

"Who is the new member of the loser group? And why does he have headphones on?" The boy ripped Lupita's headphones off and she turned to him.

"First, I am a woman, second, I don't like loud noises, third, stay away," she said and yanked the headphones out of his hand.

"Oh, so what are you?" Jeremy said and leaned down, placing his hands on his knees to be at her level.

"I am a werewolf," Lupita growled. This boy was clearly human.

"Oh, how cute. You found your little loser pack? Or are you a part of one of those high and mighty packs?" he teased while wiggling his fingers close to her face.

Lupita didn't answer but slowly stood up. She was a good head taller than him and she could smell the fear radiating off him, but he didn't let it show.

"Jeremy, it isn't worth it," one of the guys he came with said while grabbing his arm.

"Run along with your little group. I believe no one wants to see you here," Lupita said and was about to sit down when she heard him mumble, "fucking dog", under his breath. She sprung up from her seat and landed a punch right on his jaw, causing him to fall.

"You bitch!" he shouted and rubbed his jaw.

Lupita didn't bother to wait and lounged at him. She landed punch after punch on his face, leaving him a bloody mess.

Oh no.

Blood.

Not again.

Suddenly, someone pulled her off him and she was thrown to the side.

"What is wrong with you?!" Someone shouted.

Lupita wasn't sure if the question was directed at her but she couldn't answer either way. Her head was clouded and red filled her vision. Flames erupted, consuming everything. Shouts! Screams!

Why didn't it stop?! Why didn't it stop?!

Screams for help, for mercy. None came and none was given.

Blood drenched her clothes and covered her face and hands.

She had killed them.

She had killed all of them.

Shadowy figures were walking towards her. One held an axe, another held a torch. Their voices were like snakes.

"Kill it!"

"Murderer!"

"Demon!"

"Stop it!"

"It's killing everything!"

Why didn't she stop?! Was she killing everyone?! She didn't mean to! SHE DIDN'T MEAN TO!

"Lupita!"

Lupita snapped her head up and threw her first forward but it was caught just in time.

"Relax," a soothing voice said and began to lightly scratch her behind her ear.

"Why are you comforting her when she is clearly at fault!?" someone shouted.

"She is clearly not going well," the other voice said sternly but kept their voice leveled.

"She attacked one of my students! Do you think he is doing well?"

"It was his own fault. I believe every werewolf in this hall can vouch."

There was a collective of murmurs until someone spoke up. "He called her a dog."

"So?" The other voice said, and Lupita could finally hear and see normally again.

She was sitting on the floor, someone was behind her and someone else was beside her. The person speaking from before was a chubby man with a big, grey mustache and a balding head. On her side was Jazmyn and her mother was the one behind her.

"So?!" About ten different werewolves shouted.

"Being called a dog is the worst form of slur you can be called as a werewolf," Elizabeth said and stood up, helping Lupita lean on Jazmyn before she did so.

"Oh yeah, well, that was no excuse for her to harm one of my students!" The man shouted, getting right in Elizabeth's face.

"Elizabeth, Jack, let us take this to my office," the principal said. Wait... since when did the principal get here?

"Fine," the man, apparently named Jack, said and picked up Jeremy who was crying pathetically on the floor.

"Come on," Elizabeth said and helped Lupita up on her feet and they walked behind the principal to where Lupita could only guess was his office. But as she walked out, she felt a pair of eyes burning into her neck. She turned and saw the vampire girl from before... just staring at her.

Lupita looked down but caught a glimpse of her bloody knuckles.

"Ahhhhh!"

She shut her eyes, took a deep breath, and looked back forward. She had to get this under control.

"Sorry for causing you trouble," Lupita apologized and wrung her hands nervously cringing as she felt the blood smear on her hands.

"It is fine. Just try to hold back a little next time," Elizabeth said and rubbed her shoulders.

Lupita smiled and before she knew it, they were inside the principal's office and she was being sat down on a chair. She wrung her hands nervously but stopped once she realized she was only spreading the blood.

"Here," she heard the principal say.

"Are you ok?" Elizabeth asked as Lupita didn't take whatever the principal was handing her.

After a few seconds, Lupita felt something wet and soft on her hands. And after a minute - give or take - she felt like she didn't have any blood on her hands. When she opened her eyes, she was right.

"Thank you," she said and gave Elizabeth a small smile before they went back to silence.

Jeremy came in a few minutes later with his nose patched up and covered with something white. He looked quite funny.

"Lupita, why did you attack Jeremy?" the principal asked.

"He called me a dog," she answered and crossed her arms.

"That was no excuse to break his nose!" Jack shouted and Lupita flinched at the loud noise.

She looked over to Jeremy and examined him for a while before saying, "He will probably look way better, but hopefully worse." His cheeks immediately went red and Lupita saw him clench his fists.

"Will you tolerate this behavior?!" Jack shouted and motioned a hand towards Lupita.

"It is her first day, she doesn't know how things work here," the principal said dismissively.

"You can't be serious?!" Jack shouted again. What was it with humans and having to be so jævla loud all the time?

"You can't expect her not to attack him when he said something like that," Elizabeth said in a calm voice.

"And why is that?!" Jack challenged.

"You know how you humans get more aggressive as you enter adolescence and puberty. All the mood swings and stress?" Elizabeth asked.

"Of course," Jack said, finally calming down.

"Imagine that aggression being multiplied by ten and out into a moody teenager that has super strength and can turn into a wolf on full moons. They don't have control over when and how they lash out. My daughter is half human and half werewolf in the most confusing stage of her life. She has lashed out at both me and her father and smashed holes in the wall from random outbursts," Elizabeth said, her voice going up slightly in volume.

"Werewolves and humans are not the same at all, and no two werewolves will react the same. Some may use words, others force, others will suppress it as long as possible. She clearly doesn't take light to slurs and turns in violence. If you want your pupils to be safe I suggest you teach them what not to call werewolves to not have them go on a rampage."

Jack stayed silent for a while and didn't dare speak.

"While that is a good explanation," the principal began, "I am still going to give both of you detention. Meet up in the gym hall after school." The principal looked at Jeremy and made a face. "Actually, Lupita, come to the gym hall, Jeremy... get to the hospital."

"Thank you, sir," Elizabeth said and squeezed Lupita's shoulder and motioned to the door with her head. "Let's go."

Lupita stood up and followed Elizabeth out, but not before glaring at Jeremy causing the boy to shrink in his seat.
