Midnight was fast approaching, but Hazel couldn't find it within herself to care. Sitting atop the astronomy tower, a thick blanket wrapped tightly around her shoulders, Hazel could think of nothing more than the stars in the sky and the tournament that had finished the day prior. And what a way for it to end.
She thought back to the first task and still couldn't hold back the disbelieving laugh that bubbled up from her throat. Bloody dragons! If she hadn't been convinced that the universe had it out for her before, she certainly was convinced of it now.
Hazel sighed and shifted in her position on the hard floor of the tower. Any other witch or wizard would've cast cushioning and warming charms before sitting on the floor. As it was, Hazel had bigger things to worry about other than how uncomfortable the floor was. Like how Ron wouldn't speak to her, or how she couldn't go into the dorm room without Hermione glaring daggers at her, or the pained cries of Cedric's father once they returned from that damned graveyard, Hazel breathing, Cedric not and how Draco bloody Malfoy of all people kept sending her glances from his place at the Slytherin table.
Hazel was pulled out of her thoughts by a wood owl landing on the floor before her. The owl hooted once and cocked its head to the side before sticking out its right leg to present the letter, stamped shut with Gringotts official seal.
Surprised, Hazel stroked the soft feathers of the wood owl as she untied the letter from its leg. She apologised for not having any treats, and the owl hooted once more before flying off into the night. Hazel watched it go until it became nothing more than a little speck amongst the blanket of stars above.
Turning her attention to the letter in her hands, Hazel carefully broke the seal and nervously pulled out the letter. She took a deep breath before she cast a weak Lumos, enough so that she could read what the letter contained.
Hazel blinked in surprise. No one had told her about this. Not even Hermione. Whether they were on speaking terms or not, Hazel was sure Hermione wouldn't miss a chance to show off her knowledge.
Hazel sighed and pocketed the letter. She would go to Gringotts in the morning. Due to how the tournament ended, classes were cancelled for the foreseeable future, giving her ample time to go to Gringotts and back and not even be missed.
And hey. Even if this was a hoax and she imploded attempting to portkey to Gringotts. Well. Then the universe would have won.
