Deja vu ran through Luz's brain as she stood at the front doors to Hexide. Winter break was over. Luz groaned and pushed the doors open. There were students going to their dorms to settle back in. Obviously the Latina would do the same.
Luz made her way to the...stairs. She groaned again and this time making herself the center of attention. Everyone went back to what they were doing and Luz threw her duffle bag on her shoulder and tackled the stairs which she surprisingly got better at.
She made it to her dorm and it was already unlocked. Then it hit her. She shared a room. A room with Amity Blight. The same blight she kissed on New Years. Thinking about that moment made Luz blush. It was fine, they could just act like nothing happened. She took a deep breath and walked in.
There she was. Amity blight. Already done unpacking. She jumped when she heard the girl enter. "Oh hey Luz, I didn't see you", amity said nervously. "Yeah blight, I am capable of being quiet sometimes", Luz chuckled, throwing her things on her bed. "Wow really?", Amity said sarcastically. She grabbed her things for her first class. "By the way, my dad wanted me to tell you that there's gonna be a lot of practices and they will be long so good luck", she said patting Luz's shoulder and walking out.
Luz just watched her leave the dorm. All Luz could think was 'wow'. Luz looked at the time and decided to actually attend class. Being on break and coming back made her realize how much she really didn't like school. Luz grabbed her bag and walked out, dragging herself to her first period.
~Time skip~
Luz POV:
Yep I definitely hate school. First period was bio and that made me wanna shoot myself. The teacher talks for hours and I fall asleep every time. Then I had pre calc which I barely even understood. Maybe I should pay more attention in that class instead of playing Subway Surfers. I have to beat my high score, though, I did fail the last test but that won't matter.
At least I have free period for 3rd. I worked on that song for me and amity, if she's still up for it. Hopefully she's still up for it. No, she'll definitely be up for it still. I see amity walk up to our lunch table. This is my chance to ask, it shouldn't be hard. "Sup blight", i say as amity sits down. "Hey Luz, glad to see you're awake", she said laughing. I fell asleep in English today.
We were reading some boring novel and I just so happened to doze off. "I'm surprised that you weren't sleep. Actually I'm not. You're amity blight, top student", I said mocking the title she hated. "Ha ha so funny", she said rolling her eyes. We sat and ate lunch along with our other friends and made small talk. I never asked my question...damn it.
~Time skip againnnn~
I was sitting on the bench lacing up my skates. Honestly I was glad to have practice again. It's a great distraction from all that was going on. Once they were laced up I skated over to the line. Coach blew the whistle. Oh no. "Okay, now you've all had a nice break, but now it's time for work", he said. "Suicides go!". We all groaned and started our suicides.
Amity POV:
I was bored since Luz was at practice. I could go to the library. Yeah, sounds good. I grab a couple things and headed out, leaving the room unlocked so Luz wouldn't worry about getting back in. The library was usually empty, a couple of students here and there.
If you came to the library you would most likely see me there. I love reading. Especially the great witch azura series. Along with fan fiction but no one else needs to know that. I find my usual table and open up a new series I just started. As I was reading the world around me started to shrink into my own personal space.
That's until someone I despised invited themself in. "Oh amity what a pleasant surprise", Jessica Clayton said. I scoffed. "Nothing about you is pleasant Jessica". "Woah, what's with the hostility? I thought we were friends", Jessica said pretending to be hurt. "Yeah right. You and me? Friends? Don't get your uniform in a bunch", I said getting up to leave. "Leaving so soon?", she said walking behind me. "Yes now goodbye", I said trying to turn a corner but she grabbed my shoulder.
I pushed her hands off of me. "What.", I said, my irritation rising. "I just wanted to have a nice talk about Luz", Jessica said. I looked around and motioned for her to follow me into the girls bathroom. "Ok so what?", I asked with my arms folded. She walks to the sink to look in the mirror. "Look ams-". "Don't. Call me that", I snapped.
She took a deep breath. "Look amity. I'm pretty sure you're aware that Luz and I are no longer together. And I'm also pretty sure you're to blame". I blinked at her. "You've gotta be kidding me. You think it's my fault Luz realized what a bitch you are? I thought it was obvious enough", I replied. She didn't like that at all. "Watch it blight", she said turning around to face me.
I stepped closer to her. "Or what Clayton?", I said, lacing her last name with venom. "You don't know who you're messing with", Jessica said. "I'm not scared of you", I replied. "Oh not me", she replied stepping back.
I thought about it. "You think Luz would hurt me? Yeah no she's not like that", I said shaking that thought out of my head. "And how do you know amity. You think you know luz so well. You. Just. Met. Her. You don't know as much as you think blight. She isn't normal. She has problems.", Jessica said. I feel my limits getting pushed. "Don't talk about her like that", I say raising my voice. "She gets angry", Jessica continued. "She doesn't care about anyone but herself. Pushes everyone away from her but acts upset when no one comes to her aid".
"Stop it", I warn her. "She gets so mad to the point where-", Jessica started. "I SAID STOP", I say grabbing her by the front of her uniform. I breathe heavily and she smirks. "Maybe I was wrong. You two have more in common than you think". I realize what I'm doing and I let go of her. She dusted off her uniform. "Amity blight. Top student lashing out on an innocent person", she pretend to cry. "You are not innocent", I say gritting my teeth.
"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not, but neither. are. you.", she says poking me in the chest. "Well I don't wanna waste your time as much as you wasted mine. I thought I would get a better reaction out of you but I guess that was good enough", Jessica said turning to leave. "You're sick", I said. Jessica stopped. "Oh amity. A lot of people in this school, in this world are sick", she started. "Virus's spread ams. Don't catch a cold", she said giving me a devious smirk before making her way out the bathroom.
I hate her. No I cant stand her. I fix myself up and leave the bathroom as well. I head back to my dorm, hoping Luz was there. Just as I thought, she was. All her stuff was on the bed. She must be in the bathroom. I knock on the door. "Come in", she replied.
I opened it to see Luz doing her hair. I smiled and shook my head. "What are you doing?". "Ams this process takes time, you have to perfect the curls", Luz said combing her hair with her tongue out, helping her focus. Ams. That name. I instantly got butterflies. "Well hurry up with your precision, I still have to shower", I said, walking out of the bathroom. "Sure can do blight", Luz said saluting.
I laugh at her and I go to sit on my bed. What was Jessica talking about. Luz wasn't capable of hurting anyone. Just look at her.
~Flash back~
Luz leaned against the wall with a baseball glove in her hand, a bat leaning against the wall beside her. Her game had ended and she was waiting on the bus to take her home.
Just then Wyatt walked up to her. "Well if it isn't Noceda", he said. "What do you want Garcia", Luz said throwing the ball in the air and catching it. "Nothing just came to see how my friend was doing", Wyatt said. "I'm not your friend you dick", Luz said finally looking up at him. "Woah why not Noceda?", he said. "You know why", Luz said.
"It was an honest mistake Luz", he said acting innocent. "Harassment isn't an honest mistake you jerk", Luz said upset already by his presence. "Come on you know you liked it", he said laughing with his friends. "Yeah sure bud, what ever keeps ur shrimp hard", Luz said rolling her eyes. She began to walk away when she saw the bus.
Wyatt didn't like that comment. "Aw poor Noceda has to ride the bus because she has no mommy or daddy to pick her up anymore". That set her off. Luz grabbed her bat. She wrapped her fingers securely around it. Next thing you knew...Wyatt was on the floor.
His friends were trying to pull Luz off but she kept hitting and hitting, blood getting on her uniform. The coach saw and ran towards them and pull the girl off. Wyatt's friends were sent to get some help. Luz panicked when she heard the coach say "call 911". She grabbed her bat and took off running.
She ran until she got to a lake. She looked at her reflection in the water. She looked down at her hands and then back at the reflection. Luz smiled. "Leave no evidence",she remembered her dad saying when they would play pretend crime games. She would run around and act like she robbed a store or littered. Her dad would be the cop pretending to chase her.
She threw the bat in the water. "Footprints are a dead give away". She took off her cleats and threw them in too. "And remember the last key point Luz?", Matias asked his daughter. "Yes papa I remember", the little girl said excitedly. Luz dipped her hands in the water, scrubbing vigorously. "Don't get caught red handed", Luz said looking down at her hands. She grabbed her bag and walked away. Never returning. She would never be the same.
