Splendor knew he was different. He's known it ever since he was a child. He can kill but he's not a cold blooded thirsty killer by trade. He didn't kill unless a person deserved it and even then he had a hard time with it. He knew killing was wrong but when you grow up in a family of murderers AND have to eat humans for sustenance? Well, you could see the dilemma there. Now he was facing another one. His beloved was downright, amazing. Splendor loved them so much. They understood and cared for him but......he felt like he wasn't meant for them! His happy go lucky attitude never phased them but while he's happy to run around a playground they're more content to read a book in the shade. When he's hopping up and down for ice cream they're patiently making an order for the two of them to share.
Y/N was incredible. They were so patient and caring! Everything Splendor had ever dreamed of! It's just.....he didn't feel like the right partner to them. Y/N was content working and reading while he was loud and boisterous. Still, much to his surprise, they stepped out of their comfort zone for him. When he wanted to go to the indoor trampoline park they would gently set their book down, make sure he was dressed in comfortable clothes, and then they would go. While he was doing crazy tricks they were laughing and taking pictures and videos. He didn't find out until later but they knew a few tricks of their own! Still, Splendor had his doubts.
He hides behind a book shelf and peaks in on Slender and his beloved, watching as they laugh over a book together. It was in some old language only the two of them knew so they bonded easily. "Bribing my reading partner?" Slender laughs as he closes his book. "I'll grab the tea."
"Are you alright?" Y/N asks Splendor once Slender is gone. Crap!
"Yep! We were talking about this cat on TikTok who helps her owner with her seizures. It was so sad and sweet!" He lies with a nervous laugh.
Y/N just stares at him silently, a sigh leaving them before they gently grab his cheeks. His cheeks blush bright red when they pull him in for a kiss, his eyes widening in surprise.
"I love you," They tell him before letting him go and heading to Sally's room.
Splendor sighs softly but follows, the four of them settling at the small table in Sally's room.
"Y/N! I found the best book!" Sally gasps as they drink their tea.
"Oh? Which one?" Y/N asks her with a chuckle.
"It's about this lady who's a maid and she falls for this rich prince!" She explains. "The king holds a ball and she goes but he's supposed to marry the princess. Well, the prince falls in love with the maid and has to challenge to be with her!"
"Oh? I'd love to give that one a read. Cinderella stories are my guilty pleasure," Y/N says with a laugh. "It's how me and your uncle met after all."
"Really?" She gasps. "How?!"
"Well, he was the rich new guy in town. Everyone was in love with him and wanted his attention. He held a masquerade party with the idea of people meeting each other without worrying about status. I came with my date and we stumbled across each other. Let me tell you though, it was like love at first sight," Y/N smiles. "We danced together all night. Well, the clinic I worked at had an emergency so I had to leave in a hurry. We hadn't even introduced ourselves before I left. We just enjoyed being in each other's company."
"Wonder if you would have fallen for Slender if he had been in my place that night?" Splendor pipes up with a thoughtful hum.
"I doubt it," Y/N says pretty bluntly. "Slender is great but we couldn't date."
"No kidding. They're more like a twin than anything. Unless we were doing some Flowers in the Attic kinda thing," Slender snorts with laughter.
"What happens in that book?" Sally gasps.
"Something you don't need to know until you're older," Slender chuckles. "Look, we're out of tea. I'll be right back."
"I'll help!" Sally cheers, the two leaving the room.
"Do you really think I would have chosen Slender over you?" Y/N asks him.
"I mean, you two have so much in common! You both love to read and write, you enjoy the same drinks, you two get along with everything. You just click in everything you go!" Splendor reasons.
"Splendor, just because we get along doesn't mean we're soulmates or whatever. I get along with Sally but I'm not in love with her," Y/N tells him.
"That's different. With you and Slender you have such a great relationship! Anyone who looks at the two of you would think you're a couple," Splendor argues. "You two look like the perfect couple and I feel like I'm holding you back from true potential."
"Splendor......," Y/N trails off, their hands clenching in their lap.
Was this how they made him feel? They didn't mean to. Yes, they got along great with Slender, but they didn't love him romantically. He was a great friend and yeah they had a lot in common but, that's as far as it went. Like Slender said, they're more like twins than partners.
"I just want you to be with someone who can make you happy," Splendor says, his voice barely above a whisper.

Y/N relaxes in Splendor's lap when Slender and Sally return with tea. Y/N now had a personal goal. They were going to prove to Splendor he was the one they wanted! Y/N stays glued to Splendor's side over the next week. They take him on dates, make his favorite foods, anything and everything to prove themselves to him. They even put a pause on their book dates with Slender. Whenever they read they would always talk to Splendor about it, trying to share any and everything with him. Still, Splendor wonders if he forced them into this. It wasn't that Y/N wasn't affectionate, they just showed it in different ways and it seemed like they were making a point of being extra affectionate. Was it because they wanted to? He just couldn't understand why they'd love him over Slender......
Splendor sighs and leans forward in bed, rubbing at his temples. He could feel a damn headache coming on.....He looks up when the door opens, his eyes widening and his face flushing bright red when Y/N enters the room. They were in a very revealing black and white maid uniform and his body reacted immediately. Y/N can't help the giggle that escapes, using their phone to put on music before they dance towards Splendor.
"Y-Y/N?" Splendor gasps, watching Y/N crawl into bed.
Y/N slowly crawls up to him before straddling his hips and throwing their arms around his neck.
