She looked up, her eyes drowning in tears, and let out a laugh. Her laugh once made him feel like everything was beautiful; at this moment it sent a shiver down his spine.
Slowly their eyes met and he flinched from what he saw in them, so much disgust and regret, it chilled him to his core.
Between the loud beats of her heart, his soul crumpled into ashes.
She choked back a sob, for just a second the mask fell off, and he wanted to run for her and hold her in his arms. She coughed once, and uttered three little words that held so much power, "I feel nothing."
But, he did. He felt so much, that it could drown him and he would still take it with a ready smile.
"I'm not going anywhere. I won't leave. I won't give up. And I will be here every single time you need me. You can doubt it. You can try to push me away because you think I'll just leave anyway but that will never be true. I don't care if there are a hundred million reasons to leave... you're the only reason I'll ever need to stay.
I'll break my own heart and use those pieces to fix yours."
She pushed, he pulled.
She wept, he embraced.
She bled, he repaired.
She faltered, he shushed.
She stopped, he smiled.
But, he broke her. He wanted to be the healer but, wrapping his shirt on her chest wouldn't play a cast to fix craters in her heart.
He's just got Nine Months. To win back her trust. To teach her living again. To live.
