Yet another day in University. Taking this lessons and enjoying the beautiful rays of the sun on your skin as you studied indefinitely in the library. A small smile reaching your lips as your friends sighed for the 12th time in less than 10 minutes.
Amelia was a cat hybrid with a lot of pent up energy. She was this beautiful brown stripped cat and had the energy of a hyper dog. On the other hand, Nathan, a grey fluffy cat hybrid was dozing off looking like he would fall asleep any minutes from now. A chuckle escaped your lips as both hybrids woken up by the sound playfully glared at you.
"Let's take a bit of fresh air." You said gathering your stuff
"She finally said it..." Amelia said in awe
"Drama Queen..." Nathan and you both whispered at the same time
By the time, the three of you stepped out, Amelia was sulking as Nathan and you both laughed out loud. People from the campus glanced at you: some with surprise, other with frowns and some with a certain envy. In effect, it was pretty rare for humans to hang out with hybrids.
Even if it had been more than 20 years, that the bill about hybrids and humans equality was passed, there were still a lot of reticence from the people. Discrimination was common so many anti-hybrid discrimination units were created. Moreover, it was still common for hybrids to be owned by humans as pets... Although, it was pretty rare.
"Look" Nathan said as he pointed to a direction to your right
In the middle of the campus, a crowd and some voice swearing could be heard. You advanced through the crowd, Nathan dragging you until he froze. You peeked over his shoulder as he stood protectively in front of you. A bunny hybrid was on the ground glaring at a human man in his forties. The man disheveled and obviously not in a right mind of state was holding a broken wine bottle.
The hybrid, already a scratch on his cheek had obviously been tripped. People had called the police, but it would take them forever to come here with the traffic at this hour. You walked past Nathan and Amelia despite them trying to hold you back.
"Mister, excuse me are you alright?" you asked the man first sliding between him and the hybrid
"THIS ANIMAL!" the man was drunk for sure
"I'm sorry sir, but I don't think that this is the way you reason with people. Moreover pointing a glass, that could be used as a weapon towards someone, human or not, is considered as assault." You said glancing at the hybrid behind you who looked quite surprised of you standing there
"HE MADE ME TRIP ON PURPOSE!" the man wobbled screaming "Are you saying that I am at fault?" he gritted
"Again, sir. Screaming, threatening a person like this is assault. The police-"
Your body reacted on its own as the man swung is wine bottle his way. The glass penetrated your left shoulder deeply as you covered the hybrid with your body. The pain exploded in your right shoulder as the man grabbed you by your hair, before people finally decided to intervene. Immobilizing the man took a while, then the hybrid unit arrived.
"Jungkook!" you heard someone scream
You stepped back holding your shoulder that was bleeding quite a lot as Nathan and Amelia rushed to your side. A police officer rushed to the bunny hybrid, he was a predator hybrid, but from the look of it they were also in the same pack. The bunny hybrid seemingly snapping out of his shock pointed to you.
"Hyung, she saved me." He whispered pointing to you "She's bleeding out, Hyung. You need to call an ambulance." He panicked
You widened your eyes looking at your shoulder and shaking your head slightly as the wolf hybrid focused his attention on you. Nathan covered you from site, feeling protective of you. The wolf hybrid raised his hands in defense until another scream was heard.
"YOU!"
You recognized the head of the Hybrid police unit a bit late: Sam was a human man in his late thirties and one hell of an officer. You had the curious habit, to always get into rough situation and he somehow was always the one who arrived to the scene first. He took a liking into you, seeing you like a little sister.
"Hey Chief" you waved weakly before wincing
"I swear...this girl." Sam seethed "Officer Park, call an ambulance right now! For god's sake, can't you stay out of trouble for just one week?" he seethed before paling looking at the shard of glass still in your shoulder
"She can't." Amelia glared at me
I laughed awkwardly as another spasm of pain ran through my shoulder. I glanced at Sam holding onto him. I was going to faint, I knew it because my vision was getting blurry.
"Sam"
Scenting the cookies scent of their mates, Namjoon and Jimin had rushed through the crowd. They were both in shock when they saw the human girl with a bloody shoulder stepping away from their mate in shock.
"Jungkook!" Namjoon claimed in relief and anger seeing the small scratch on his cheek
Jimin was securing the perimeter but looking worriedly at their youngest mate. He was running an errand for Jin, the swan hybrid at the moment, and had to run into a drunkard. The man, seized on the ground by the policemen was groaning insanities as the girl had fallen sit on a nearby bench.
"Hyung, she saved me." Jungkook said snapping out of his shock
"What do you mean she saved you?" Namjoon said
He looked toward the girl, but he couldn't define her scent. Jimin had gotten closer to them, to make sure Jungkook was alright himself, but one look at Namjoon, told the latter he couldn't make the scent of the girl either. It meant only one thing, she was wearing scent blockers.
"YOU!"
The outraged mixed with worry scream of their Chief startled both hybrids as the girl gave him a small apologetic smile as he crouched down in front of her. The cat hybrid by her side, probably her boyfriend from Namjoon's point of view, was really stressed out, holding out the shoulder of the poor human girl.
"Hyung, she's bleeding out. You need to call an ambulance!" Jungkook said as his ears twitched
"On it, Kook" Jimin said as he gave the location
A whimper of pain cut the hybrids off. They had never felt so affected by a human in pain before or by anyone except their mates in pain. The girl was beginning to close and open her eyes. Jungkook and her locked eyes as she smiled apologetically at him, just before she realized something.
"Sam." She said a warning
Just in time, Sam caught the poor girl. She had now been assaulted once again. It all started when she was four years old. At the time, he was just a newbie and was shocked to see a little girl on a crime scene. Screaming and crying for her mother. The said mom only answered the thirteenth call and yelled at the girl who had been greatly injured during whatever she experienced.
A scar on her back witnessed it.
Her mother scolding and giving us an address to bring her back to, before hanging up the phone still echoed in Sam's head. Eli had been leaving alone all her life. She grew to be a beautiful, independent girl and still humble despite the hefty sums her parents sent her to make up for their inexistence in her life.
"I got you." He whispered scooping the girl up "Who's coming with me?"
He glanced at the two friends you had made in university who looked at each other worried and bothered. Sam knew it was difficult for each of them to go to the hospital because of their past. He might of might have not dug some information on them to make sure they weren't tricking Eli to be friends.
"It is fine." The chief of the police said reassuringly to both cat hybrids whose tears had started to trickle down their cheeks
"Tell her to call us, as soon as she wakes up." Amelia said
"I will." Sam nodded
"The ambulance won't take another 30 minutes because of the traffic chief." Jimin said glancing at the girl who obviously grew a fever
"Shit." Sam said "We'll take her ourselves."
When you woke up with the familiar white ceiling, you couldn't feel your left shoulder anymore. With your right hand, you patted your left arm with a bit of relief, it wasn't cut off. It was severely bandaged, but it was fine. The cuts would heal in a few weeks, leaving maybe some scars behind. You remembered the frightened form of the hybrid wondering quietly how many times hybrids had still to be frightened for the stupid men like that drunkard would be satisfied.
"You're up." Sam entered the bedroom sliding the door open
He looked like he had just gotten out of the shower meaning you were out for some time. It was already dark outside and you sighed seating up. The man sat on the chair beside you and remained silent. His small brown beard and short hair told you he had been to the hairdresser recently. Would he finally confess to the secretary of his station? You smiled.
"I believe there is nothing to smile about, brat." He looked seriously into your eyes
You sighed patting your shoulder mindlessly.
"Don't look at me like that Chief." You grinned sheepishly "Is the bunny hybrid okay by the way?" you asked worried
"He's fine. His pack is extremely grateful to you and the man will spend time in jail for assault on both hybrid and human." Sam sighed "You are really good at getting in troubles uh?" he glared at you "You could have just pushed him, that bastard. You are not a superhero Eli." He scolded
"I didn't think about that." You said clapping your hands
As soon as you did, you realized that the tranquilizer had stopped making effect. The pain you felt in your shoulder was excruciating. As you bend yourself in half, Sam quickly called for a nurse. A bunny hybrid nurse rushed to you and increased the dose of morphine as you smiled at her.
"It's the third time, I see you this month." She said with a worried glance
Sam sighed exasperated at the fact. You had saved a cat who was about to be crushed by a truck, you ran for life and threw the cat aside, but the truck still hit you a little and you had been unconscious for three days. Next, you noticed a group of humans beating a hybrid and you called out for the police out loud, before actually calling them out. Leaving the hybrid alone, they ran after you and after only one hit in your stomach and making you trip, they were caught in time.
"Only third?" you said impressed
More than half a month passed and you were only hospitalized three time. It was your new record. Sam glared at you unpleased as you were enjoying your new record.
"It will take some time for your shoulder to heal. Fortunately, the muscles and nerves weren't badly damaged, but you won't be able to use your left arm for at least...two or three weeks." The nurse announced before leaving
You had widened your eyes hearing the news. It was truly a lot of time, you hadn't gotten injured that badly in almost...Five month. Sam sighed as he knew the same thing as you did. You lived alone since you were a little kid with no one looking after you. You always refused Sam's help because it would be uncomfortable for him. You put your right arm up in the air. You were right handed fortunately, so you would be able to go to classes. The nurse had also told you that you were discharged. Because the injury was stitched and everything. You took the catheter out as Sam gathered your stuff.
"Dinner at the station?" you chirped
"Jinyoung is going to be over the moon." Sam smirked
You froze for a second slowly turning around to narrow your eyes at the smirking man. The Nam pack had always cared for you a lot. You met them by chance as you went to the station several times and also because you saved two of their pack mates once and got badly injured because of it. Jinyoung was from far one of the most protective pack member with Jaebum.
"You didn't..." you said feeling betrayed
"Oh sure I did, brat." Sam smirked "And guess what? Youngjae, Yugyeom, Bambam, Mark and Jackson are also waiting for you at the station." He said
"I'm not eating dinner at the station...I have homework." You said as sweat began running down your spine
"You're not escaping."
