Zayn's POV
We were on in ten minutes, our third return to the Staples Center since the start of our career. The energy in the stadium was always insane, which really helped our performances.
I glanced across the hair and makeup dressing room to see Eve with Lux in her lap, reading a book. The slight smile on her face as she read warmed my heart. Eve had been watching Lux for the past two hours while Lou styled us and Caroline gave us out clothes. We'd be making outfit changes throughout the show, but I was starting out in my varsity jacket.
"Zayn." Lux pointed at me as she noticed I was looking at the two of them. Giving her a small wave, I made my way over to the two of them despite the fact that I was going against my usual rituals of brushing my teeth multiple times before going on.
"Hey." I smiled, and Eve looked up at me returning the same look. Lux pointed up at me again, saying my name again.
"Zayn."
"Very good, Lux. That is Zayn." Eve encouraged the small girl and returned her gaze back to mine. Her expression was a mixture of tired and happy, which was rare.
"How're you holding up?" I asked her.
She shrugged back at me. "I'm tired even though I'm sitting down, but she's adorable, and very smart. Didn't someone just say you were on in ten minutes?"
I nodded.
"Shouldn't you be getting touched up or something?" She asked, tilting her head slightly to the side. She always seemed to do that when she was asking a question.
"What." I scoffed, pretending to be offended. "Don't I already look flawless?"
"Well yeah, but I just thought-"
"I was kidding." I interrupted with a chuckle. "But thanks for saying I'm flawless." I winked at her, but had to go backstage with the rest of the boys. "Wish us good luck."
"You'll do great, I'm positive." Eve reached over Lux and squeezed my hand, giving me goosebumps again.
Man I was whipped!
Eve's POV
As the show went on, I could hear the loud screaming even though the door was closed in the dressing room. That wasn't bothering me so much since we were at a concert, but once Lux started to copy the screams, I started to get uneasy.
"Shhh, Lux." I tried to calm her down, but it was no use. She was getting amusement out of this. "Come on Lux, lets play the quiet game." I tried desperately.
Thankfully, a white-blonde haired woman named Lou burst into the room. "Lux! Why are you screaming?"
"She was trying to imitate the crowd." I sighed in relief that her mummy came to my rescue.
"Again? I'm sorry Eve, I think Harry taught her that. I'll take her now." She held out her arms so Lux could transition from my lap to Lou's strong and motherly grip. Immediately, the screaming stopped and I sat back on the couch with my hands rested on my bump. I really wished I was on a bed, but no.
"So," Lou sat down after giving Lux her binky, and setting her down to play with a few toys on the floor in front of us. "Update on Zayn please." I couldn't stop from blushing furiously about it, though it felt nice to be able to gush about my feelings for him. I needed to let it out before I exploded on him. Poor guy.
"Well, he's been very sweet to me as usual, and always asks me if I need anything. And he's shirtless a lot of the time in our hotel room, which is painful in the best way possible." Lou laughed at me, but motioned for me to continue. "I just, he's perfect. For me, as a dad too I think. I know he loves Lux, and he loves his baby sisters. He's everything I've never had and always wanted."
When I finished, Lou raised her eyebrows. "Sounds like love to me."
"I don't know about that." I looked down at my bump. "Maybe I'm just hormonal."
"I don't think you can blame those feelings on hormones." Lou trailed off with a suggestive expression on her face. "Take it from someone who knows. You two have chemistry, and I think everyone can see it. No matter how much Liam doesn't approve, or how scared you are of messing up a good friendship. You can't beat true love, period."
Zayn's POV
The concert went by in a flash, and it was absolutely wicked. I think all of us sang well, the band was incredible, and the crowd was massive.
"Good work boys." Liam said to all of us as we exited the stage, handing in each of our microphones and being handed water bottles in return. One thing about being on that stage is the lights really make you sweaty, which is gross, but worth it. The whole crew was bustling around backstage, telling us that we did a good job.
When we reached the dressing room where Eve and Lou were, I started to walk a little faster inside. The two of them were on the couch while Lux played on the floor in front of them by herself. By the looks of it, they were having a nice chat, but Eve was blushing a deep red.
"Hey red cheeks, what're you two talking about?" I asked as I approached the couch. Harry and Louis decided to keep Lux company while Niall and Liam raced to see you could chug their water bottles down the fastest. Idiots.
"Nothing." Lou gave me a sly grin and got up from the couch. "Sit down Zayn. I've got to pack up the hair and makeup." I hesitated, but plopped down on the couch and looked at Eve intently. The color in her cheeks was back to normal for the most part, but I was still very curious.
"So really, what were to you two talking about?" I asked.
Eve shook her head. "Nothing. Just girly stuff." What on earth could that be? Periods or something?
"Okay." I dropped the subject. "Have fun with Lux?"
"Yeah, until she started screaming to copy the fans." She rolled her eyes playfully. "Harry is an idiot sometimes."
"Hey!" Harry interjected. "I'm a hot idiot."
Eve giggled and put her hands up in mock surrender. "Hot idiot, I apologize."Did she really think he was hot? What did she think of me? She had checked me out multiple times and complimented my looks more than a few times, but was she just being cheeky?
"ZAYN?" Eve snapped me out of my jealous thoughts.
"Huh?"
"I asked how the show was but you were too busy staring Harry down like he just killed your dog." She chuckled and raised her eyebrows, expecting an answer.
"Oh, yeah it was brilliant. Great energy like always." I told her. "And Harry caught four bras."
"That's not trashy at all." Eve muttered sarcastically.
"Alright everybody ready? We're getting on the tour bus in the morning so back your bags tonight and be ready to leave at seven am. Okay?" Paul announced. Everyone nodded. Then I remembered I had to ask Paul a question.
"Excuse me for a second." I said to Eve, then jogged up to Paul.
"Hey Paul," I lowered my voice and leaned in close to his ear. "Did you manage to get everything I requested for Eve on the bus?"
He nodded discretely. "The food drawer is fully stocked, she's got a hot water bottle, and I made sure her bed is right across from yours on the bottom. You'll know it's hers because I ordered a softer mattress for her, and her bed spread is yellow just like you asked."
"And Greg isn't on the bottom, right?" I confirmed, making sure I'd be taking care of her for the most part, which I loved by the way. I felt like Greg was useless, since he was back at the hotel anyway instead of actually checking on Eve during the concert. Twat.
"Yes. Anything else?"
"That's it. Thanks so much mate." I thanked him and gave him a smile, but not without catching Liam's attention.
"What was that all about?" He asked, not really suspecting anything.
"Oh, I just requested some special stuff on the bus."
I was going to take care of her, and show her just how much I love her. Because it's true. I'm in love with her.
