Kate followed behind hen as they walked through the gates of a grave yard, a herd of protesters stood outside with signs, protesting against an army funeral

"This is so wrong" Kate shook her head , watching as protesters chanted

"It happens a lot" chimney told her

"Okay, we got a colostomy bag, probably backing up. You're gonna have to intubate him." Bobby called

Hen and chimney kneeled beside the man, he quickly swatted them away, continuing to groan in pain  "hell no. You do it." He Pointed to Bobby

"Sir, I am not a trained paramedic. I can't intubate you. They can."

"I'm fine." He spluttered

"Sir, you're not fine. Your bowel is probably obstructed. The contents of your colostomy bag are backing up into your system. You're about to choke on your own waste. You will suffocate and die." Chimney argued

"Okay, sir, if you refuse care, we cannot administer it by force"

"What about those?" He motioned to Eddie and Kate,

"Diaz. Quinn"

Kate walked over to the man, she held her hand out for the equipment as the man continued to talk

"Diaz. What kind of name is that?" He asked

"My father's from Mexico. My mother's Swedish. I can help you out with the Swedish half. But no one told me which half that is."

He pushed Eddie away, not that Eddie was bothered. He didn't particularly care for the man's wellbeing

"You?" He asked Kate

"Irish" she replied, waiting for the argument

"You'll do" he nodded

Kate held back a snappy comment, she got ready to intubate when the man rolled over, vomiting the contents of his bag

Kate took a quick step back, holding back a gag

"he's aspirating.

"Actual diarrhea of the mouth outstanding." chimney gaged

"Okay, guys, let's get to work. Let me roll him over." Hen ordered

They all kneeled around him, Buck and Eddie rolled him onto his side, Eddie stuck his fingers down his throat to try clear his airways

"I need mechanical suction. - This isn't cutting it."

"We've got suction on the truck" hen said "Let's get him on the gurney. Let's go"

They slipped the back board underneath him, on the count of three they lifted him from the ground. Eddie went with hen in the front of the van, chimney was left in the Back.

Kate stayed behind with Bobby and buck, she followed them out of the grave yard; they were greeted by a brunette

"Well done." She smiled

"Right, your ride-along was today." Buck wrapped his arm around his sister, hugging her from the side

"Uh, Cap, Kate - this is my sister Maddie." He introduced

"Great to finally meet you." Cap shook Maddie's hand

"Hey, Bucks told me a lot about you" Kate shook her hand "nice to put a face to the name"

"So you're the infamous Kate my little brothers always taking about" Maddie teased

Kate felt a blush burn her cheeks, she gave a small smile "I hope he's praising Me" she joked

"Like you wouldn't imagine"

Buck gave his sister a nudge, hoping she'd take the hint, thankfully Athena joined the conversation, changing the subject

"How do you never let anything get to you?" Maddie asked her

"Get to me? Do you know how many times in a given day somebody's got the opportunity to get to me?" She chuckled "If I start letting them get to me, I wouldn't make it past breakfast.Which reminds me, we should eat.

"Eat? You want to eat after that?" Maddie laughed

"Oh I'm starving" Kate gasped

"Oh speaking of, are you free tonight?" Buck asked Kate

Kate nodded "yeah, why?"

"You should come over for dinner" he invited

Her brows furrowed "why?"

"To repay for last week, come on you can get to know Maddie"

"Is this some way of you getting me to open up about my alcoholic ex fiancé, because I keep telling you. I'm fine"

Buck sighed "no. It's inviting your for dinner because I know you have nothing else planned"

"Alright" she shrugged "anyone think you were tryna ask me on a date"

*

Kate stood outside the door to buckleys.. or Abby's place, she felt her nerves run high for reasons she wasn't sure of. Everything just felt weird, she felt like she was going on date she even changed her outfits three times before leaving.

But it wasn't a date, it was Buck and his sister. It was Buck her friend, her basically best friend but after that night at her apartment, she had felt lingering feelings; ones she pushed as far down as possible, she couldn't fall for anyone right now especially not Buck.

She knocked on the door, it opened after a few seconds "hey, sorry I'm late. Im still getting the hand of Ubers, oh and I brought wine" she held up a bottle

"It's no problem, come on in" he stood aside and Kate stepped into the apartment, she looked around noticing how nothing was bucks, no pictures, no art nothing but a house full of someone else's stuff.

"This is a nice place"

"Hey Kate" Maddie gave a small wave

"Hi" Kate returned,

"You're just on time for dinner" Buck told her, putting the wine on the table

"How was your day Maddie?" Kate asked

"Ugh, don't even get me started" she groaned

"What happened?" Kate asked, taking a seat at the table

"She got a dispatcher fired" Buck replied, sitting across from Kate

"She was hanging up on people, not one call In months was completed. So now she's out to get me" Maddie sat down, pouring a glass of wine

"Hanging up! she should be sacked- fired"she quickly corrected herself

"Well now there is a whole investigation and she won't leave me alone" Maddie sighed

"She sounds crazy, it's a good thing she's not working there anymore"

"Anyway, enough about me." Maddie waved dismissively "how come you decided to move to LA?"

"I had a relationship that went wrong and I really needed a change, Ever since I was younger I always dreamed of traveling to LA so I took the chance" she explained

"I totally understand, I just left a horrible relationship. But we are both really strong for making it out"

Kate gave Buck a side eye, after she told him about her ex, and specified it was never an abusive relationship he wasn't so convinced, but there was a lot she didn't tell him.

"It was nothing serious, he eh.. he was an alcoholic and I just had enough" she told her

"Well good for you for leaving"

"How about we take about something else" Kate suggested "Buck told me you are moving out"

"Yeah, I found a great place close to work" she nodded

"When you move I can help, I know how hard it is to move everything alone" she offered

Maddie sighed happily "that'd be great, thanks so much"

"This food is really good, I was starving" Kate said, taking another bite

"Well it's no beans on toast" he joked

Maddie looked between the two, not sure what to make of her brothers statement "beans on toast?" She asked

Kate dropped her fork, "it's an Irish delegacy, it's so simple yet so effective"

"It sounds... weird" Maddie said hesitantly

Kate chuckled "you can say it sounds disgusting. I don't mind"

"Yeah, it sounds disgusting" Maddie nodded, giving a short laugh

"It's really good and one day I'm gonna make it for you both" she declared, taking a harsh bite of her fork

"Whatever you say" Buck chuckled, shaking his head

Kate shot him a narrowed look, which he laughed at. Maddie joined in, Kate just huffed like a child and continued eating her dinner

"I heard you had a date last week. Didn't go so well" Maddie mentioned

"I got stood up and then I got drunk. Not my finest moment" Kate admitted, "but I think I'm gonna ease off the whole dating thing, I don't think I'm as ready as I wanted to be"

"I mean going was a big step, at least you know you are capable" Maddie acknowledged

"That's what my sister in law told me."

"Just don't get so drunk" buck joked

Kate rolled her eyes. Taking a bite of food.

Dinner ended 30 minutes later, Kate stood from her chair and gathered up the plates

"You don't have to do that" Buck stopped her

She shrugged "I like helping, besides I never leave a table dirty"

"That's a good rule to live by" Maddie stood up and gave her a hand

"My mam always thought me to clean up after myself, even if I'm a guess"

"She sounds like a wise woman, you must miss her" Maddie frowned

"I do, like a lot" Kate exhaled "but I'm really happy here and technology exists"

"What about your dad?" Maddie asked "oh sorry, intrusive question"

Kate shook her head "No, no it's okay. He died when I was 14"

"Oh, I'm sorry" Maddie frowned

Kate ran a cloth along the dirty plate "it's okay, my mam was always able to be both parents"

"That's really sweet" Maddie smiled softly "your mom sounds amazing"

"She's the best" Kate nodded, a smile creeping on her face

...

Hours had gone by, Maddie had said good night minutes before, hoping some sleep would cure her anxious mind.

"Your sisters really nice" Kate said, sipping on her wine "and this place"

"The place full of nothing that is mine?" He questioned

"Hey, you said it" Kate defended

Buck sighed, "what if me moving out is like breaking up with her"

"Or, it's you moving out. No one said you wouldn't go back to her if she came back" Kate rephrased

"What if we aren't suppose to be together, I mean she barely answers my calls or texts. I'm finding out things through her social media. It had been months and I'm starting to feel a needy codependent"

"If you feel it's times then you should do what you think is right, no one can tell you otherwise right now" Kate advised

"I think I want to leave this place, it's not my home. Nothing here is mine" he admitted

"You need help house hunting?" Kate offered

"I was going to-..

Kate cut in "Rents once a month, hang whatever you want on the walls and please make it your apartment too" She smiled softly

"Anyone ever tell you how amazing you are?" Evan asked,

"All the time" she flipped her hair,

"Maybe they should stop" he joked

Kate gasped, holding her heart "well I never, I retract my offer, you'll have to find someone else"

Buck chuckled, he picked up the bottle and tipped it over Kate's glass

"Oh no, none for me" she quickly declined, "I have to call a taxi. Try and get home"

"You mean an Uber?" Buck corrected

"Yeah whatever" she rolled her eyes,

"Stay, I'll take you by your place in the morning"

"Your sister is on your couch, you own one bed" Kate pointed out

"We are grown adults, I think we can refrain from jumping each other for one night"

Kate gave a short laugh, she noticed the time and how long it would take to get home "fine, but only because I'm tried. But I can't promise I won't you jump you" she joked

"Oh ha ha" he mocked
