Gracies POV (7 Years Old)
I woke up to the moonlight still shining through my closed blinds and sighed heavily when I realised that I needed a drink. Will normally puts a bottle of water next to my bed before I go to sleep but he's in New York for some kind of medical conference. With a slight hint of reluctance I climbed out of my bed in search of some water. Being as quiet as I possibly could I opened my door silently and tiptoed down the hallway stopping dead in my tracks when I saw the front door wide open. My heartbeat escalated as I silently backed back down the hallway and silently pushed Jays bedroom door open,
"Jay" I whispered frantically as I shook his bare shoulder, looking over my shoulder terrified that someone was in the house "Jay wake up" I pleaded and his eyes flicked open,
"What's the matter?" He whispered back groggily,
"I think someone's broken in" I said with fear evident in my eyes and Jay sat up straight immediately "I went to get water but the front door's wide open" I told him and he moved to get out of bed,
"Ok ok" he soothed "stay here ok" he said as he stood up,
"I don't wanna be on my own" I said scared and he gave my shoulder a reassuring squeeze,
"It'll just be for a couple minutes" he assured "if you hear any noise, you hide ok" he said firmly "do not leave this room unless I say, do you understand?" He asked and I nodded with tears in my eyes "good girl" he said giving me a kiss on the forehead before quietly grabbing his gun from his bedside table.
I waited glued to the spot as the deafening sound of silence filled the apartment. That was until I heard the sound of a crash then a hell of a lot of shouting coming from the kitchen. Remembering what Jay had said I grabbed his phone with shaking hands and climbed in to the wardrobe. Trying to ignore the unpleasant sound that where happening in the next room I unlocked Jays phone and selected the first number that came up,
"Jay?" I heard a tired Adam answer on the other end,
"It's Gracie" I whispered with a shaky voice,
"Gracie?" He asked confused "what's the matter?" He asked now fully alert,
"You need to help Jay" I sobbed as quietly as I possibly could "someone broke in and now there's all this banging and shouting and I don't know what to do" I cried,
"Ok baby girl I'm coming right now" he assured "where are you?" He asked,
"Jay told me to hide so I'm in the wardrobe" I told him,
"That's good" he said "I'm gonna stay on the phone with you ok but I want you to stay as quiet as you can" he said and I swallowed in an attempt to calm my breathing,
"What if they find me?" I asked terrified,
"We're not gonna let that happen" he promised "someone's gonna be with you in two minutes ok?" He assured and I nodded silently. I jumped out of my skin when the sound of a gunshot rang through the air and I covered my ears and scrunched my eyes shut hoping that everything was somehow a dream "Gracie?" I could hear Adam ask but I was to afraid to speak "Gracie are you ok?" He repeated but I kept silent "we're coming for you kiddo, everything's gonna be ok" he assured but I just kept crying silently.
Adams POV
My heart sank when I heard a gunshot through the phone and I pushed down on the gas pedal. Kim was on the phone with Voight who had already alerted the rest of the team as well as some uniforms and an ambo but Kim and I were sure to make it there before them. I pulled my car to a sudden stop outside of the building and we both pulled our guns as we ran up to the apartment. The front door was wide open and I scanned the hallway for any apparent danger,
"CPD" Kim announced as we walked carefully through the trashed apartment. We turned in to the kitchen and my heart sank when I saw two bodies lying on the floor. One of which was Jay,
"Jay" I shouted as I ran over to him and Kim checked the pulse of the burglar,
"Is he the only one in here?" I asked and he nodded with a pained groan,
"Gracie" he forced out "she was in my bedroom" he told me and I nodded knowing what he was asking me to do,
"Ok, I'll go find her" I assured "there's an ambo on the way man hang in there" I pleaded as Kim took my place and applied pressure to the stab wound.
Gracies POV
I stayed in the wardrobe with my knees pulled to my chest, my eyes tightly closed, and my hands covering my ears. My breath hitched when I heard the door open and light seep through the crack in the door,
"Gracie" I heard the familiar voice "Gracie it's Adam. It's safe now you can come out" he assured and I let out a breathy sob. I squinted when the doors of the wardrobe opened and Adam stood in front of me with a look of concern evident on his face. I immediately clung on to him as if my life depended on it,
"Where's Jay? Is he ok?" I asked wanting to see my big brother,
"He...he needs to be seen by a doctor right now Gracie but there's an ambo on the way" he assured and my sobs increased,
"I want to see him" I pleaded but Adam held me back from running out of the room,
"That's not a good idea right now kiddo" he explained "he wouldn't want you to see him like this" he said but I didn't care,
"I don't care, I wanna see him" I screamed but Adams grip didn't let up.
"Gracie?" I could hear Hailey shout through the apartment,
"In here" Adam shouted back and Hailey ran in to the room,
"Oh thank god" she exclaimed as she took me in her arms and allowed me to cry in to her shoulder "I got you baby girl" she soothed "I got you" she repeated as she rocked me back and forth slightly.
I was kept in Jays room with Hailey whilst everyone was working outside. Apparently they had taken Jay to Med before I had the chance to see him but Gabby promised that he would be ok,
"Hey Gracie" Kevin said as he walked in with his phone "Will's on the phone do you wanna talk to him?" He asked and I nodded eagerly,
"Hello" I said tearfully as I took the phone in my still shaking hand,
"Hey squirt" he greeted back,
"I want you to come home Will, I'm scared" I cried and Hailey tightened her hold on me as she whispered sweet nothings in to my hair,
"I know you are sweetie and I'm so proud of you" he said "I'm on my way to the airport to try and get a flight right now ok" he said "I promise I'll get there as quick as I can baby" he said "everyone's gonna look after you and you're gonna go stay with Hailey until I get home" he said,
"Please be quick" I pleaded,
"I will Gracie I promise" he said "I love you and I'll see you soon" he reminded,
"Ok, love you too" I said with a hiccup before passing the phone back to Kevin,
"Can we go to Med to see Jay?" I asked hopefully but Hailey sighed with a shake of her head,
"No sweetie not tonight" she denied "I'm gonna go and pack you some things ok?" She asked and I nodded, shuffling back to curl up in to Jays bed.
A few minutes later Hailey reappeared with a bag in hand followed by Antonio,
"I'm gonna carry you outside and I want you to keep your eyes closed really tight until I tell you ok?" He asked and I nodded. He picked me up and I closed my eyes like I said and hid my face in the crook of his neck "got those eyes closed?" He asked and I nodded silently tightening my grip on his jacket. He carried me down the stairs and out of the building when he put me down on the pavement "you did good tonight kid" he said as he ruffled my hair slightly "you should be super proud of yourself" he said with a wink. Hailey began to lead me to her car when Kim ran up next to us,
"Mind if I join?" She asked and Hailey nodded with a smile,
"Thank you" she said and Kim shook he head,
"Don't worry about it" she assured as we climbed in to the car and Hailey drove us to her apartment.
It took a lot of convincing and assurance for me to finally agree to close my eyes and fall in to a nightmare filled unrestful sleep. I felt someone brush my hair out of my face and flicked my eyes open to see Will crouched down next to me. Tears immediately sprung to my eyes as I wrapped my arms around his neck and sobbed,
"Shhhh" he soothed as he stroked my hair comfortingly,
"Don't ever go away ever again" I demanded and he sighed,
"I'm here now baby girl" he reminded "I'm not gonna let anything happen to you" he stated.
The rest of the night was long and filled with very little rest as I drifted in and out of sleep and Will remained awake next to me the entire time.
"Morning" he smiled lightly at me,
"Can we go see Jay now?" I asked hopefully,
"I don't know yet sweetie. I'll call the hospital soon and find out what's going on ok" he said and I nodded,
"G'morning sleepyhead" Hailey said as she walked in to the room fully dressed for the day,
"Morning" I replied half heartedly and Will and Hailey got up to talk in the kitchen.
Eventually Hailey left for work and I went to get changed and freshened up. Will spent about half an hour trying to convince me to eat two slices of toast. In the end he settled for one slice and sent me off to watch TV in the living room.
"Good news" Will announced as he walked in to the room "I just spoke to Conner and Jays injuries looked a lot worse than they where" he told me and I sat up straight,
"So we can go and see him?" I asked hopefully and he smiled with a nod,
"We can go see him" he confirmed "he might have to spend another night in the hospital just so he can get some more medicine to help him feel better but fingers crossed he should be home tomorrow" he said and I smiled,
"Can we go now?" I asked eagerly,
"That depends on how fast you can get your coat and shoes on" he added and I rushed to do just that.
Will drove us to the hospital and we walked inside hand in hand down the different corridors before we found the room where Jay was. He looked pretty good and was sat up straight in the bed with a tube attached to his hand with a bag of fluids going in to it.
"Hey" Jay smiled once he saw us walk in and I immediately ran over to him and attacked him in the biggest hug causing him to groan slightly but still wrap his arms back around me,
"You need to be careful Gracie" Will scolded but Jay assured that he was fine,
"I thought something really bad happened to you Jay Jay" I cried lightly and his hold on me tightened,
"I know baby girl" he soothed "but it was you who called Adam to tell him what was happening. I'm really proud of you" he said as he kissed the side of my head.
We spent about two hours with Jay and I remained glued to his side for both of them hours,
"Right Gracie, I think it's time we head home and give Jay some rest" Will suggested and I groaned,
"C'mon, I should be home tomorrow" Jay added and I nodded reluctantly,
"Ok" I agreed as I gave him a kiss on the cheek and slid off the bed.
I stayed in the car whilst Will ran up to Haileys to pick up my things. We then made our way back to the apartment and we noticed a few different cars parked outside. We didn't think much of it until we walked down the hallway and saw Casey fixing our front door with an electric drill,
"Hey" Will greeted "you didn't have to do that" he said and Casey just shook his head with a smile,
"We wanted to help" he replied as we walked inside. The apartment had now been cleaned of any mess from the night events with the help of the guys at 51 and intelligence,
"Hey, sorry about what happened" Herrmann said when he saw us,
"Thanks for doing this, we really appreciate it" Will said and everyone insisted that it wasn't any bother,
"I heard you where quite the little hero last night kiddo" Kelly said as he ruffled my hair,
"I just called Adam" I shrugged not seeing what the big deal was,
"Still, not many kids your age would think to do that" Kevin said,
"Yeah, you should be proud of yourself Gracie" Sylvie smiled.
Everyone stayed for a little while longer until the sun began to set and I could no longer contain my yawns,
"Why don't you go get ready for bed" Will suggested and just the thought made my stomach do summersaults,
"I don't wanna" I admitted and Will frowned,
"Hey, your safe ok" he assured "I promise I'm not gonna let anything happen to you" he said,
"I don't wanna go to bed" I admitted and he sighed,
"Well you're not going to bed just yet are you" he reminded "your just gonna put your pj's on so that you can be comfier" and I nodded apprehensively,
"Can you come with me?" I asked "I don't wanna be in my room on my own" I said and Will sighed once again,
"C'mon then" he said "but nothing bad is gonna happen to you" he assured again.
Once I had got changed in to my pj's we had our dinner and then sat on the sofa watching some TV. I couldn't control my yawns as Will stroked my hair soothingly,
"Do you wanna go to bed?" He asked but I shook my head and clung on to his shirt,
"M'not tired" I lied and Will raised an eyebrow at me but let the subject go.
I guess I must've drifted off at some point because I woke up as Will put me down in my bed and I grumbled in displeasure,
"I don't wanna go to bed" I stated and Will let out a weary sigh,
"You where fast asleep two minutes ago" he stated "c'mon" he encouraged "I'll turn your nightlight on and you'll be fast asleep before you know it" he assured and I huffed,
"I'm thirsty" I lied in an attempt to delay my bedtime. Will closed his eyes and took a deep breath,
"I'll go get you some water" he said "stay in bed though ok" he told me and I huffed. A few seconds later he returned with some water and I took a small sip before passing it back to him "right" he said as he placed the glass on my bedside table "lie down" he instructed,
"I need the toilet" I said again and Will looked at me doubtfully,
"Fine" he sighed "come straight back" he said and I nodded as I ran off to the bathroom.
Once I came out of the bathroom I stopped and stared at the front door,
"Gracie, I know it does not take you that long to pee" I heard Will say from my bedroom "c'mon bedtime" he insisted as he lead me back over to my bed,
"Did you lock the door?" I questioned nervously and Will frowned,
"Yes sweetheart of course I did" he assured with a soft smile but I remained hesitant "do you want me to show you?" He asked and I nodded. He took hold of my hand and we walked over to the front door where he showed me that the lock was on and the door would not open unless the key was turned or the latch was moved "see" he said and I nodded,
"Can I speak to Jay?" I asked tearfully and Will sighed,
"Will you go to sleep afterwards?" He asked and I nodded "ok, I'll call him" he said. I went to go and sit on the sofa and Will spoke to Jay in the hallway before he walked back over to me and handed me his phone,
"Hello" I greeted once I had the phone,
"Hey kiddo" I heard Jay reply "why don't you wanna go to bed?" He asked,
"I want you to come home" I admitted and I heard Jay sigh,
"I can't tonight baby girl" he replied "you're fine with Will though, he'll look after you just like he always does, ok?" he asked and I gave a tearful nod,
"Ok" I replied,
"Good girl" he praised "now you need to get some sleep" he reminded,
"N'night, love you" I said,
"I love you too, g'night" he replied and I handed the phone back to Will.
"Are we gonna try and get you to bed now?" Will asked and I held my hands up silently asking him to pick me up,
"Will you stay with me until I fall asleep?" I asked as we walked to my bedroom and he put me down in to my bed,
"If you want me to" he agreed and I got comfy in my bed.
I could feel my heart beat against my chest as my eyes shot open and I saw I was in my room alone. Just like the night before.
"Will" I said in a bid to get my brothers attention as tears rolled down my cheeks "Will" I shouted louder and a few seconds later a shirtless Will appeared in my room and switched on the main light,
"What's the matter?" He asked as he squinted from the light,
"Can I sleep with you?" I asked tearfully and Will sighed,
"Ok" he nodded as he picked me up and I hid my face in his neck,
"Wait" I said and he stopped before he left my room,
"What?" He asked confused,
"What if someones out there?" I asked nervously,
"Nobody's in this apartment apart from me and you baby girl I promise" he assured and I nodded. He carried me out of the room and back across to his own where he put me down on his slept in bed,
"I forgot bunny" I stated and Will groaned slightly before he left to grab my stuffed rabbit "now try and go back to sleep ok" he said as he climbed in next to me "the door is locked and nobody is here, I'm not gonna let anything happen to you" he assured. I snuggled in to his side and felt protected as the scent of Wills aftershave filled my nostrils and the rise and fall of his chest lulled me back to sleep.
I woke up naturally to the sun shining through Wills blinds and noticed that I was alone. Huh. I guess Will must be up already. With a big stretch I climbed out of my brothers humungous bed and walked out of his bedroom and in to the kitchen where I saw Will sat on the sofa fully dressed and ready for the day,
"Good morning sleepy head" he greeted,
"Morning" I replied as I hopped up on to the sofa next to him "what time is it?" I asked curiously,
"10am" he replied and my eyes widened "I figure you could use the sleep" he added and I nodded,
"Does Jay come home today?" I asked hopefully,
"Hopefully later" he told me as he stood up from the sofa and walked over to the kitchen "are you ready for some breakfast?" He asked and I nodded silently.
The morning went by pretty normally until Jay called and said that he could come home! Will drove us both to the hospital where Jay was already stood outside and jumped in to the passenger seat,
"Hey squirt" he greeted once he had greeted Will,
"Hey" I replied with a toothy grin just as Will let out a big yawn,
"Long night?" Jay asked and Will wiped a hand over his face,
"Don't ask" he replied before the car fell in to a comfortable silence.
The day went by fairly quickly and I spent most of it stuck to Jays side and watching movies,
"Right, Gracie I want you to go get a bath please" Will said and I groaned,
"Do I have to?" I complained,
"Yes you do" he replied,
"C'mon" Jay encouraged "we'll order some pizzas and they'll be here by the time you've finished" he added and I nodded reluctantly,
"Can I get Hawaiian?" I asked hopefully,
"Sure you can" he confirmed and I ran of to have a bath.
It soon rolled around to bedtime and much to my displeasure my brothers where fairly insistent on me going to sleep,
"I'm not tired" I lied as Jay switched on my nightlight and closed my blinds,
"Well if you don't go to sleep then you're gonna be tired in the morning" he reminded "in you get" he instructed and I hesitantly did so.
"Did you lock the door?" I asked nervously once I had climbed in to bed,
"I locked it when we came in" he assured,
"Promise?" I asked and he smiled lightly,
"Promise" he repeated,
"Why can't I sleep with you or Will?" I asked sadly causing my brother to sight and bend down next to my bed,
"Because your a big grown up girl now Gracie and you need to sleep in your own bed" he said and I sighed "I promise you that nothing is gonna happen to you ok" he assured "you're safe in here Gracie and neither me or Will are gonna let anything bad happen to you" he promised,
"But what if that man comes back?" I asked with tears stinging my eyes,
"Listen" he began with a sigh "that's not gonna happen" he said and I frowned.
"How do you know?" I asked curiously,
"Because, when you called Adam he caught him" he explained and my eyes widened,
"Did Adam send him to Jail?" I asked,
"He did" he confirmed "so you don't have to worry about him anymore. Anyway, you've got so many people that protect you Gracie, not just me and Will. No one is gonna let anything happen to you, ok?" He asked and I nodded,
"Ok" I confirmed and he leant forward to kiss my forehead,
"Good girl" he smiled as he tucked a piece of hair behind my ear "now try and get some sleep" he said as he stood up and moved to leave my room,
"Love you" I said as is snuggled down contently,
"Love you too" he replied before leaving my room and half shutting the door and allowing my galaxy sky nightlight to flood my ceiling.
