Like I said, we all have a thing for Kie. But when Tatum looks at her, it's different. She looks at her like the world stops spinning. Watching the two of them just look at each other makes my chest clench in envy, because who doesn't want a love like that? And they're not even a real couple.

TATUM QUINN CERTAINLY lived up to the name she was given. Generation after generation, the Quinns have always been famous in the shitty town of Outerbanks. Though, they weren't famous for good things. Each one of them - young or old - had a criminal record. People feared the Quinns as if they were the lions of the beach. They were top of the pouge food chain, and if someone didn't live up to their expectations, they were gone. Simple. To be a Quinn, you had to be reckless, you had to be careless, and you had to be remorseless. To be a Quinn, you couldn't care about anyone else but yourself. To be a Quinn, you had be prepared to fight for survival, even against your own family.
And Tatum had never failed to follow those family rules. To be friends with her, you had to be patient and understanding, and sometimes able to take a punch. But to be enemies with her - you should probably think about running away to Canada. That was probably why she only had a few true friends. Everyone else was only nice because they were afraid. If she didn't thrive off the big-shot name she had, every single one of those people would talk crap about her. But JJ Maybank, John Booker Routledge, Pope Heyward and especially Kiara Carrera - they were her real friends. The people she would die for. The people she would kill for.
Kiara Carrera - the one person in the world who dared to scream and shout at Tatum when she did something dumb (which was basically 24/7). She didn't care about the consequences. If Tatum went out of line, she'd tell her. And Tatum Quinn loved that. In the fake world she was born into, where people had to smile and act sweet to her face to avoid being strangled to death by one of her brothers, it was refreshing to finally have someone tell her when she was wrong. Kiara and Tatum drove each other crazy, and they wouldn't change it for the world.
