Debbie POV:
"Soooo.." Lou said awkwardly.
"Sooo..." I also said.
"Do you wanna go shopping?" Lou asked excitedly.
"This is not a date." I replied sternly.
"Never said it was. Just shopping, maybe bowling, then laser tags. Just the two of us." Lou smirked, and I couldn't help but smirk back.
"Look, I know we'll probably never be a couple, but please, can we be friends?" Lou added.
"Sure. Alright, then."
Third Person POV:
Debbie and Lou decided to forget what had happened between them yesterday at the engagement party and just be friends for a second. They both made a whole bucket list for them to complete for the day. On the list, window shopping was the first thing Lou wrote down. Debbie got ready and Lou waited patiently, adding more things to their 'list.' Once Debbie was done, they both excitedly exited Debbie's apartment, and then it hit them. They don't have a car. And they'd have to walk to the bus station, which is half an hour away.
"Shoot. Tammy took my car, where's yours?" Lou asked.
"Erhmmm... it's down in the basement parking lot." Debbie answered with her face looking down. Lou immediately saw the worried look on Debbie's face.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Lou questioned.
"I.. I don't know... how to drive." Debbie answered. Despite being middle aged, Debbie didn't know how to drive. She would always call Tammy to pick her up for work or walk everyday at 6:15 AM to the bus stop and travel from there onwards.
"WHAT?!?! YOU DON'T.. I CAN TEACH YOU!" Lou said excitedly, squealing.
"What?! No! What.. you know what, you can drive it instead." Debbie said proudly.
"Nope. I'm gonna teach you."
"Ugh. Whatever, let's go."
Debbie walked back in her apartment and grabbed her car keys. They both made their way down the elevator to the basement parking lot and Lou's jaw dropped when she saw a Tesla Model X 90D. It didn't drop because she was surprised Debbie had a Tesla, well she was, but it dropped because it was the exact Model and colour of her car.
"WOah! Our cars are twins! Except, your one is dusty and seems lonely."
"What?" Debbie asked puzzled.
"My car-"
"Whatever, let's just go." Debbie interrupted.
"No. You have a car and you don't drive it? So I'm going to teach you." Lou said.
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes, now come with me." Lou grabbed Debbie's hand and dragged her near the car.
"No, Lou. I can't." Debbie hesitated.
"Debbie. Why?"
"Because... I'm scared."
"What? Hey, don't be scared. I'm here, alright." Lou softened her voice and spoke calmly to Debbie. Debbie nodded in response and entered the driver's seat. Lou made her way around the car and entered the passenger's seat. Debbie's hands were shaking as she placed it on the steering wheel. Lou placed her hands on top of Debbie's. At first, Debbie's hands stiffened because of Lou's soft hands, but she eased afterwards.
"Alrighty, you do know the basics, right?" Lou asked.
"Uh huh." Debbie answered.
"Alright. So, start the car." Lou said.
Lou and Debbie spent about an hour just driving around the basement parking lot, well Debbie drove. And it was an absolute misery for Lou. A happy misery though. She'd give tips every now and then for Debbie and Debbie would take the tips literally. Lou mentioned to Debbie earlier to drive, then brake when she wanted and needed. Debbie literally drove for 2 seconds, then hit the brakes, drove again for 2 seconds, then hit the brakes and they literally looked like they were corrupted with some virus or something- drive, stop, drive, stop, drive, stop.
It was about 10:30 AM and they both had enough with the constant drive and stop, they decided to start their bucket list for the day. So they switched seats and Lou was now in the driver's seat. They exited the basement and once they were out, the sound of silence was born. So Debbie turned on the rainbow, in hopes to shut it out. Coincidentally, the song 'Just the two of us' played which gave birth to awkwardness too.
( Besties- play it while reading this convo. Btw, this is going to be cringey, so buckle up cuz yawl going down the cringey roller coaster. )
"Debbie..."
"Yes, Lou." Debbie turned her face around facing Lou entirely.
"Can I call you mine?"
"What?"
"Like y'know... baby, hunny, sweetie, prin-"
"No, Lou."
"Why?"
"Because it's weird and didn't we just agree to stay as friends like... 10 minutes ago?"
"But you like it when I call you them."
"Yeah... I do. NO! I MEAN-"
"See baby, I told you."
Debbie's heart flooded with butterflies and her face was blushing intensely.
"Baby, look at me." Lou reached her hands out and caught Debbie's chin and turned Debbie's face towards her, "You like it, don't you."
Debbie swatted Lou's hands away in a child-like behaviour and looked outside the window.
Lou chuckled at Debbie's behaviour, "I know you like it, princess."
Silence and awkwardness was adopted once again in the atmosphere. The song, "Just the two of us," was still playing in the background as they sat quietly in the car... daydreaming about each other. Until Lou decided to return silence and awkwardness to foster care.
"Baby..." Lou said.
Debbie's heart fluttered once again. She loved it so, so, so much how Lou called her 'baby.'
"Baby... Earth to Debbie, hellooo?" Lou waved her hands in front of Debbie's face. Debbie was brought back to reality when she heard her name.
"Yes, Lou?" Debbie turned her face completely to Lou once again.
"C'mon... call me baby too."
Debbie smiled, "Nope."
"Are you single?" Lou gulped and asked innocently.
"Why?"
"I really want to know."
"And if I say no?"
"Will you go out on a date with me?" Lou asked, in hopes of a yes.
Debbie's eyes widened with surprise, "What?"
"A date-"
"I heard you, Lou!"
"Ok, so... is it a yes?"
Debbie chuckled and hit Lou lightly on the shoulders, "No dingus."
"Pleaseeee. It'll just be the two of us?"
"No, Lou."
"Please. I really like you."
"And?"
"And you're really hot and se-"
"JUST THE TWO OF US!" Debbie sang along to the song, ignoring Lou, "WE CAN MAKE IT IF WE TRIED!"
"JUST THE TWO OF US!" Lou joined.
"JUST THE TWO OF US!" Debbie sang like the backup singers.
"BUILDING CASTLES IN THE SKY! JUST THE TWO OF US!" Lou yelled after Debbie.
"YOU AND I." They both sang in unison.
"Now go on a date with me." Lou said.
"No!" Debbie retorted back, but really wanted to say yes.
They both arrived at the mall and Lou immediately dragged Debbie to the first store shopping they saw. Debbie was unsure at first by why Lou took them in, but she trusted Lou. Lou dragged them into the clothing aisle and grabbed everything she saw displayed. Debbie was confused but she too grabbed whatever she saw displayed. Once they collected all the clothes, Lou quickly dragged them both in the fitting room.
"Here, you go in there and put on any outfit right now and we'll meet back out here in 5, alright?" Lou said with an excited voice and Debbie nodded in response.
Debbie entered the fitting room and so did Lou and both got dressed in the outfit they had chosen.
"READY?!?!" Lou yelled from her side.
"Uh huh." Debbie yelled back.
"3... 2... 1.. NOW!" They both exited their fitting rooms and Lou immediately cracked up laughing at Debbie because she didn't change into anything.
Debbie's Fit:
Lou's Fit:
Debbie gasped in shock as she realized Lou had tricked her. Lou had still worn the same outfit from earlier and has not changed at all.
"Lou! You... ARGH!"
Lou laughed once again at Debbie's frustration, "Baby, you look so adorable." Lou took out her phone and told Debbie to take out her phone too.
"Here. Now, we take pictures and selfies." Lou said, "May I?" She asked Debbie for permission before she could take pictures of Debbie which was so sweet Debbie thought. Lou took multiple pictures of Debbie as well as trying her best to contain her laughter because it had caught the salesman's attention.
"Ok, now change into another." Lou told Debbie as she changed her wallpaper into Debbie's cute outfit she had just worn.
Debbie who has now understood what window shopping meant changed into another outfit. And so, their game of window shopping went on and on for a couple hours until the salesman finally understood what they were doing and kicked them out. They moved from store to store and took over 200 pictures and selfies in total. After that, they both went bowling. They both agreed on only 3 rounds of bowling, but after competing with Lou, Debbie knew she was a pro at it, and so her competitiveness kept them in the bowling alley for another 5 rounds until she finally won, but she knew Lou purposely had to gutter the ball, which again, Debbie found it sweet.
It was now 4 PM in the evening. Lou and Debbie made their way into Debbie's car. They were hungry, but both didn't want the fun to end. They both thought the other wasn't hungry so they made their way to laser tag in an empty stomach until Lou decided to admit before she'd faint whilst they were playing laser tag.
"Baby..." Lou started the conversation.
"Hm?" Debbie hummed in response dreamily. She still couldn't get over Lou's constant endearments. It was music to her ears.
"Are you hungry?" Lou asked and right on time, her stomach growled and Debbie couldn't help but giggle.
"Mhm. And so are you. C'mon, we can come laser tag next time."
"Next time? You mean you wanna... do all of this... again?" Lou asked, blushing.
"Mhm." Debbie nodded in response.
"With me?" Lou added.
Debbie, now was blushing too and didn't want to answer, but she couldn't leave Lou hanging like that. And so, she just nodded, then looked outside her window. They both blushed and just drowned in the moment they were in now, until Debbie's phone rang. She saw the caller ID and it read, 'Evil Queen' which was a nickname she gave Tammy.
"Hello?" Debbie asked.
"DEBORAH OCEAN! WHY DIDN'T YOU PICK UP WHEN I CALLED YOU DURING MY LUNCH BREAK?" Tammy was on speaker so Lou could hear everything.
Debbie thought back to 2 o'clock which was their break time and remembered that she and Lou were bowling at that time and there was music blasted in the background so she couldn't hear any call from her phone.
"Oh shoot! Sorry, we were bowling." Debbie apologized sincerely.
"Oh, so you guys are dating now. Jeez, it's only been a day an-"
"We're not dating Tammy."
'We're not dating.' kept repeating in Lou's mind. Those words have degraded her mood now, but she didn't want it to affect their day out right now. And besides, she knew Debbie liked her back too, but she just doesn't have the guts to admit to it.
"Ok, so where are you headed to now?" Tammy asked in a teasing voice.
"McDonalds... why?"
"Awww, you guys are so cute. Are you guys gonna... y'know... do the thing later?"
"What thing?" Debbie asked curiously.
"Y'know... have se-"
Debbie hung up the phone. Awkwardness made its way back again and so did silence. But Lou quickly abandoned them once again.
"Baby... why can't you date me?" Lou asked nervously.
Debbie was silent. She wanted to, so badly, but she couldn't. There was just something that told her to wait.
"Debbie? Hunny, are you ok?" Lou asked.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm just... hungry." Debbie nervously replied.
"Alright, tell me once we finish eating ok?"
Debbie just nodded in response. The whole ride to McDonalds was awfully silent. But now awkwardness wasn't there. Although silence was there, silence had an excuse as to why they were there. Debbie and Lou were both tired. But they both wanted something to go down their system. They arrived at McDonalds, ordered their food and ate. They were so hungry, they went for round 2. And so after they ate, they made their way back to Debbie's car and decided to call it a day. They had many more things on their bucket list, but they were exhausted. They also bought ice cream, strawberry flavour. But thanks to Lou's stupidity, she bought the couple one. The one with one spoon for two. Debbie hesitated to use the same spoon as Lou, but she needed something sweet, so they both just shared one spoon.
They arrived at Debbie's apartment because Tammy had told them both to stay at Debbie's. She needed to return Lou's car and also tell them about the latest gossip that happened in the office. And so, they made their way to Debbie's apartment. They were both stuffed, with probably 4 burgers each.
"Thanks again... for driving." Debbie said as they made their way out of the elevator and approached Debbie's apartment.
"Nah, it's ok. Anyways, up for another driving lesson after work tomorrow?" Lou questioned.
"Oh right! I forgot we missed work today. Sure." Debbie answered as she unlocked the door.
"Alright." Lou smiled and entered after Debbie. And she didn't have any other choice but to look down at Debbie's behind.
Lou immediately slumped down on Debbie's couch and sighed. Debbie flopped down on the other chair and both just relaxed for a few minutes.
"You wanna watch a movie?" Debbie asked.
"Mhm."
"Name it." Debbie reached her hands out for the TV remote.
"Mmmmm, how about Paw Patrol?" Lou suggested.
"Be serious." Debbie said in a stern voice.
"I am. Fine... how about Avengers End Game? I heard Black Widow died." Lou said.
( Yawl, Besties- take a moment of silence for Black Widy... she didn't deserve to die. Rest. In. Love, Widow <3 )
"Sure." Debbie put on Avengers and flopped back down on her couch, but she really wanted to flop down next to Lou.
"Baby, can you sit with me?" Lou asked.
"What?" Debbie's eyes widened and she blushed heavily.
