Chapter Ten: Never Gonna Leave This Bed
HAZEL
I woke up and stretched in the bed only to find Adam gone. I sat up and looked around the unfamiliar room which was supposed to be mine now. I had agreed to move into this house with Maroon 5 who just happened to be werewolves and Adam was the alpha. The word werewolf was starting to sound natural when I thought or spoke it, after last night there was no denying what I actually was. A child of the moon as Jake mocked me when we got coffee.
I hadn't thought about Jake or Rachel, would I be allowed out of the house to visit them? I needed some freedom. Or could they visit me here? Jake knew about the supernatural world so maybe the guys would welcome him which would make his little fangirl heart stop beating. But they might not be too keen on Rachel since she's screwing Derek, a hunter who had tried to kill them multiple times.
I was interrupted by a knock on the door, the handle turned and I was relieved to see Adam stroll into the room like he owned the place, well technically he did. Unlike me he was actually dressed; he wore black jeans and a white top with the sleeves rolled up so you can see this tattoos. He wore the look very well and it was easy to see why he was voted the sexiest man alive. As if he could read my mind Adam shot me one of his trademark sexy smirks before walking over to the window and opening the curtains which let the LA sunshine cover me on the bed.
"Time to get up sleepy head we have plans today. If you want to get some things from your apartment then I want you out of that bed and dressed."
His tone was playful but he was trying his hardest to sound strict but he was failing. I fell back on the pillows and pulled the duvet over my head.
"What if I don't want to leave this bed?"
ADAM
"What if I don't want to leave this bed?"
So she wanted to play it stubborn, I couldn't help but smile at her childishness around me. it was refreshing from all my past company, it also meant that Hazel was starting to feel more comfortable around me. I turned around and my eyes locked on her form hidden unconvincingly under the duvet, oh I could have some fun with her. I already had a plan forming in my head.
"I wonder where Hazel is. I can't find her anywhere. Oh well I'll leave then, maybe she's in a different room."
The duvet moved as she tried to conceal a giggle, I made sure to make a lot of noise on my way to the door just too actually make her believe that I had gone. I opened the door and closed it with some force. I then got on all fours and stalked towards the bed, I made it to my side just in time to hear Hazel throwing the duvet off herself. I couldn't help but smile, this was going all to plan.
"Did he actually fall for it?"
She sounded generally pleased with herself, oh little love if only you knew the big bad wolf was still in the room with you. When we recorded animals, if only people realised the truth behind most of the lyrics, it's not every day a band of werewolves can get into the charts with a song about themselves.
"Maybe I should get up, but then again the bed is good."
I found it kind of cute that she talked to herself when she thought she was alone. I poked my head up and noticed her back was to me, now it was time to scare the new pack member. I got up silently and lunged at her, like an animal attacking its prey, Hazel was my prey and reward.
"What the fuck..."
I cut her off by wrapping my arms around her waist. She jumped out of her skin which made me throw my head back and laugh; she did the exact same thing last night. My little love was a jumpy thing. She tried to squirm out of my grasp but I wasn't done with her just yet. I started tickling her which only made her squirm more.
"Adam...please...stop tickling...me..."
"Only if you say that I'm the sexiest man alive and that you're attracted to me."
She stopped squirming for a second as if she was thinking what I said over. She shrugged her shoulders and smirked.
"Nah, I think I'll choose the tickle torture."
I scoffed and pulled her onto my lap, she yelped in surprise expecting me to tickle her. I began planting small kissed up her neck, her body shivered with each kiss.
"Now I could easily wake up to this every morning Adam."
I couldn't help but smile against her neck; this would be the best way to wake up every morning.
"Err Adam are you in there? Hazel got a strange text off someone called Jake."
James knocked on the door; there was urgency in his voice. Hazel's head bobbed up at the mention of Jake's name, he was one of her best friends after all but gay so I had competition. I sighed, well that was our moment ruined.
"We'll be down in a couple of minutes."
I heard James walk away satisfied with my answer. Hazel used this time to wiggle her way out of my arms and lap and all but jump off the bed. Her mood had improved; I preferred planting kisses all over her body.
"I wonder what Jake wants?"
I hummed in agreement; I too wanted to know what this human wanted. Hazel quickly got dressed in a summer dress out of the wardrobe and threw her hair up into a messy bun on top of her head. She all but pulled me off the bed, for a small person she now had a lot of strength.
"Come on Adam."
I let myself get dragged out of the bedroom before I picked her up bridal style and carried her downstairs; this was becoming 'our' thing. She playfully hit me in the chest asking me to put her down but I refused, I liked holding her in my arms. We entered the lounge and five sets of eyes were on us, each one asking a different question. Mickey cleared his throat and held out Hazel's phone.
"Who's Jake? Why does he mention purple eyes and your family tree?"
I felt Hazel tense in my arms as I put her down on her feet, after what she told me over the meal I got the feeling that family was a sour spot for her. I glared at Mickey who seemed confused by my sudden hostility; I suppose he didn't know all the facts so I couldn't be that mad.
"Jake is my best friend, he also knows I'm a werewolf. He figured it out through little changes in my life. He's really big into supernatural lore and I asked him to look into purple eyed wolves. Looks like he might have found something."
The guys tensed when Hazel mentioned a human knowing she was a werewolf. We liked to keep our existence hidden but someone was bound to figure out eventually. Besides it sounded like Jake only knew about Hazel and not me or my band. I cleared my throat and all eyes landed on me.
"Ring Jake back, put it on speaker. None of us know why you have purple eyes Hazel; if he does then maybe we can use it against the hunters. They seemed pretty freaked out last night including Derek."
HAZEL
Mickey handed me my phone and I dialled Jake's number, he picked up immediately which meant he was waiting for me to ring back.
"I know family isn't your favourite topic but I found something interesting in your family tree Haze."
I could hear the excitement in his voice, I didn't even get a chance to say hello. He must have found something good to forget basic phone etiquette; I couldn't keep the smile off my face.
"And hello to you to Jake. Tell me what you have for me."
On the other end of the line I could hear paper being shuffled around like he was trying to find the starting point of his conversation. I tapped my fingers on my thigh as I waited patiently.
"Okay here me out Haze. On your mums side every female has been married into another family. Well except you because you ran away to LA and were disowned by your family. Anyway all the families have werewolf crests, like a family symbol. Most of these crests go back decades."
Adam came forward and wrapped his arms around my waist, it was a sweet gesture. I should have known my family weren't happy with me leaving the country and fleeing my 'future' husband. The rest of the guys were focused on the phone and Jake's voice. So my best friend I was going to marry was a werewolf, if I hadn't run I never would have found Adam and his pack. I let out a shaky breath.
"What else Jake?"
"In werewolf lore alphas have red eyes, betas blue and the rest of the pack yellow. But only a handful of werewolves have purple eyes, they are only female and are called lunas."
I'd never heard the word luna before, across from us Mickey typed something into his laptop. Jake took another breath and more papers were shuffled around before he continued.
"Lunas are married to an alpha in another pack to create a truce between two packs. Not only that but if a pack has a luna marked and mated to the alpha then somehow the whole pack becomes stronger as well both mentally and physically."
So I was a luna, a rare female werewolf. But something didn't quite add up in my head, I had one major question bugging me.
"Jake if I come from a long heritage of werewolves then how come I've been human for the last twenty odd years?"
"Your mum was a luna and your dad an alpha. You were born a pure werewolf, you'd think you'd have been a werewolf from the very start but apparently it doesn't work like that."
I quirked an eyebrow, what did my best friend mean?
"What do you mean Jake?"
He sighed heavily and I could see him running his hand through his hair with some frustration.
"Somehow the werewolf gene lies dormant in you until you're claimed or bitten by an alpha. Most females don't survive the bite because they don't have a werewolf gene, that's why families marry their daughters to other werewolves. Alphas are only drawn to biting their future mate."
I dared a glance up at Adam who smiled before bending down and kissed my nose. It sent warm feelings across my body, was Adam supposed to be my mate? He did say he didn't know why he bit me but it felt right when he came across me.
"Can I maybe get a thank you Jake for being amazing?"
I looked back down at the phone in my hand and rolled my eyes before chuckling at my friend's impatience.
"Thank you Jake for being amazing. I owe you but now I need to go and wrap my head around all this new information."
I hung up and clutched the phone to my chest, Jake had given everyone the information they were missing about me and what the purple eyes meant and their new importance. If I became the luna to this pack all the guys would become stronger and maybe then they could deal with the hunters once and for all. Adam was the first to break the comfortable silence.
"Okay so now we know more than we did before which is good. Hazel go and get some shoes on and then we'll get some things from your apartment."
Something in his voice told me that he wanted to speak to the guys alone with me out of the room. I nodded and walked out of the room still clutching my phone, god I'd missed my baby.
ADAM
"If what this human said is true then Hazel needs to stay here under pack protection. The fact that we have a luna might put some fear into the hunters and keep them away for a while."
I agreed with every word that left Matt's lips, the hunters didn't know what we knew about why Hazel had purple eyes and that scared them more than they liked to admit. Maybe we had our solution and it came in the form of a feisty human.
"Err are we forgetting that Adam hasn't marked or mated Hazel yet. She might not even like him. Then again she did run away from the alpha her family wanted her to marry."
I rolled my eyes at James's jokey tone. Hazel and I had a connection even if she didn't want to admit it yet. I couldn't help but scoff as my cockiness took over.
"I'll get her to like me, that can't be hard look at me."
The guys chuckled while Jesse shook his head in disapproval at my cockiness. It wouldn't take Hazel long to fall in love with me. Behind me I heard light footsteps on the stairs, the guys fell silent and scrambled to look busy before Hazel entered the lounge again.
"So are we going or not Adam?"
She beamed me a bright smile; she was taking all this new information a little too well. If I was in her shoes I'd be slightly confused as to why her parents lied to her for all these years. Maybe the smile was an act; I'd ask how she was really feeling when we were away from the house.
"Your carriage awaits my lady."
She took the hand I offered her and I pulled her out of the room. We entered the garage and then she turned to me with a mischievous grin on her face.
"I heard every word Mr Levine. I'll fall in love with you easily. I might just have to make you work for it."
Her grin was contagious; I bent down and captured her lips. She parted her lips and matched the kiss but before she could take the kiss further I pulled away and stared down at her smirking.
"I don't think it will take you too long at all Hazel."
