Deena walked to the bleachers, just like Sam had told her to. She saw the football team on the field practicing and cringed at how dumb they looked fighting over a flying object. She walked to the bleachers and felt a hand on her shoulder. She was ready to fight, but once she turned around and saw those familiar eyes, she relaxed and a smile appeared on her face.
-Sam., smiled Deena.
The blonde girl simply pulled her under the bleachers.
-Hi. You came., replied Sam with a smile.
-Of course. So, what's up? What did you want to tell me?, wondered the brunette.
-I...Listen, I don't know how to tell you this..., started Sam.
-Preferably by using words., joked Deena, which made the other girl chuckle, but then she had a serious expression on her face.
-I...Remember when Kate asked me about my favorite actors and celebrity crush and stuff?, tried Sam.
-Yeah?, frowned Deena.
-I lied., admitted the blonde girl.
-What? Oh, let me guess, your favorite celebrity crush is actually Leonardo Dicaprio., chuckled Deena.
-God, can you just not right now? I am trying to tell you something., sighed Sam getting slightly irritated.
-Oh. Sorry. I'll stop. I was just trying to lighten the mood a little., apologized the brunette.
-Yeah, I know but this is taking a lot of courage from me and I don't want to chicken out., replied the other girl.
Deena nodded and had suddenly a serious face.
-Okay, so, I lied, right?, repeated Sam.
-Yes., nodded Deena with slight confusion.
-Okay, so, it's Winona Ryder., replied the blonde girl.
-You already said that. You said that she was your favorite actress., chuckled the brunette.
-God, Deena, she's my celebrity crush!, replied Sam loudly.
-Oh. Okay. Cool?, frowned Deena unsure of what was happening.
-Cool?, repeated the blonde girl.
At this point, Sam was desperate.
-Wait. Wait. You...you like Winona? You like Winona. So...Wait., mumbled Deena frowning.
-Deena, remember when I was drunk and I said those things to you?, tried Sam, taking a different approach.
-Yeah?, replied the brunette.
-I meant it. I meant what I said., replied Sam looking down and fidgeting with her hands slightly.
Deena looked at the girl and was lost in her thoughts.
-Okay, Sam, Imma need you to elaborate because huh?, said Deena.
-I like you! I fucking like you, Deena. Why did you think that I was mean to you? I was confused! You confused me! You still do confuse me! But you make me feel nervous. In a good way. And you make me feel flustered. I just, I like you!, explained Sam, trying not to yell.
-I...Sam, I don't know what to say., replied Deena feeling slightly overwhelmed.
-You don't have to say anything. But please, don't tell anyone. If my mom finds out, she'll kill me., said the blonde girl.
-Pretty sure she would kill me., chuckled Deena making Sam look up at the brunette punch her shoulder playfully.
-Promise you won't tell anyone?, asked Sam.
-I promise., nodded the brunette.
-Deena?, said the blonde girl biting her cheek.
-Yeah?, replied Deena with a smile on her face.
-How do you...How do you feel about me?, asked Sam hesitantly.
-I...I don't know. I mean, I think I do like you, but you kinda were a bitch to me and I can't forget that., replied Deena.
-I get that. I'm sorry about that., apologized Sam.
-I know, I know. Can you just give me some time to think about it?, wondered Deena.
Sam nodded and looked up at her.
-Yeah. But in the meantime, can we make a deal?, asked the blonde girl.
-Sure., nodded Deena.
-No dating other people. And no flirting., replied Sam with a little confidence.
-Uh, yeah. It's not like I've ever dated anyone or was successful with the flirting. So you're basically asking me to keep being me. Can't be that difficult., chuckled Deena.
-You're a dork., replied Sam.
-But same goes for you. No dating or flirting., said the brunette.
-Yup., smiled the other girl.
-Okay., nodded Deena.
-Mhm., replied Sam.
Well that was awkward.
-I gotta meet up with Kate and Simon. I'll see you later?, asked Deena.
-Yeah, see you later., replied the blonde girl.
Deena left and felt such an adrenaline, she could literally run a marathon. Sam liked her? She needed a moment to process that. Did the blonde girl make her feel a certain way? Yes. She couldn't deny it. But she didn't want to be someone's experiment. She sighed and just kept walking until she saw Simon and Kate sitting at a lunch table. She sat down next to them, not saying a word, still lost in her thoughts.
-Hello? We're talking to you., chuckled Kate pushing her slightly.
-Hm? What?, replied Deena looking at her friends.
-We were asking if you wanted to hang out at the mall this weekend?, repeated Simon.
-Oh, uh, sure. Yeah, sounds cool., nodded Deena.
-Okay, what's up with you?, frowned Kate.
-Nothing., replied the other brunette.
-You look like that time when you got a B in chemistry instead of an A., chuckled Simon.
-Shut up., sighed Deena remembering that time.
-He's not wrong., added Kate.
-Shut it., replied the older brunette.
-Then tell us what's wrong?, asked Kate.
-Nothing., sighed the brunette.
That's when a certain blonde girl walked past them and caught her eyes. She smiled softly and Sam waved at her but kept walking. Deena looked back down and sighed.
-Does nothing have blonde hair?, wondered Kate.
-Don't., said Deena in a warning tone.
-Hey, we're just playing with you. Well, now I'm worried actually., said Simon.
-What happened with Sam? She could sit with us at lunch, you know?, said Kate.
-Yeah, I'm aware., sighed Deena.
-Okay...wait. Oh my god. Did she finally have the guts to ask you out?, gasped the brunette.
-What? How did you- Keep your voice down and don't tell anyone. But how did you guess that?, frowned Deena.
-Okay, I promise. But she was always checking you out and she always acted different around you, so I simply told her to ask you out. So I'm guessing that I'm right and she asked you out?, said the younger girl.
-Not exactly. She just admitted liking me. But yeah, I guess she indirectly asked me out., nodded Deena.
-What did you say?, wondered Simon smirking.
-I said that I'd think about it because I'm not even sure if I like her., replied Deena.
-You like her. It's a fact. I mean, you would not treat her like that if you didn't like her., chuckled Simon.
-I for once agree with this dummy., added Kate.
-Guys, I don't know. Plus, her mom already hates me., sighed Deena.
-Exactly., nodded Simon.
-Huh?, frowned Kate looking at Simon.
-Well, if she already hates you, what's there to lose? You can't make it worse., chuckled Simon.
-Is hangover Simon smarter than normal Simon?, wondered Kate.
-Looks like it., smiled the boy proudly.
-I'll think about it. We're staying longer for her to try out for the cheerleading squad, right?, asked Deena.
-Yes., nodded Kate.
-Okay. That'll be fun., nodded Deena sarcastically.
The rest of the way went by pretty quick. She didn't bump into Sam, which made her feel relieved but she also hoped to get to glance that the blonde girl a few times throughout the day. Finally school was over so she joined her friends at the gym for the tryout.
Sam walked in.
