Gracies POV (5 Years Old)
"Are you sure you don't mind doing this?" I heard Jay ask Adam as he put his coat on,
"Of course not bro, you know I love your sister" he said "we always have fun don't we Gracie?" He asked me as I ran over to them,
"Yep, last time Adam let me stay up past my bedtime to watch a movie with him" I informed and Jay raised an my babysitter,
"Oh really?" He asked and Adam looked at me,
"That was meant to be our little secret Gracie" he said in a joking manner and I shrugged with a smirk,
"Right well, bed for 7:00pm and don't let her take you for a ride bro" Jay said to Adam who scoffed "be good" he said to me as I hugged him "I'll see you in the morning ok?" He asked and I nodded,
"Love you" I said as he gave me a kiss on the head,
"I love you to" he replied before moving to leave the apartment "call me if you need me and Will should be back before me, he finishes at ten" he informed Adam who nodded,
"No problem, bye" he said before Jay left the apartment "oh thank god I thought he'd never leave" he joked making me laugh "so what do you wanna do?" He asked and I shrugged slightly,
"Can I watch TV?" I asked and he nodded,
"Sure, what do you wanna watch?" He asked as we both sat down on the sofa,
"Tangled" I declared,
"I've never seen it but I know you always talk about it" he said as he turned the TV on,
"It's the best!" I exclaimed "it's on Disney+" I told him and he eventually located it and selected my chosen movie "WAIT" I shouted before running to my bedroom to retrieve my Rapunzel doll and returning a few seconds later "I nearly forgot Rapunzel" I said as I sat back down next to Adam,
"Got everything?" He asked in amusement and I nodded in conformation for him to press play on the movie.
"I'm hungry" I announced once the movie had finished,
"Yeah? Do you wanna get pizza?" He asked and I nodded enthusiastically "ok, go get your PJ's on whilst I put the order in" he instructed as he pulled out his phone to ring in our order.
I got changed in to my pink and purple mermaid pyjamas and ran back to the living room,
"Can I have coke?" I asked once I had flopped down on to the sofa,
"I don't think that's a good idea" he said "it's 5:00 and you have to go to bed in a couple of hours" he shook his head,
"Awww" I whined "my brothers let me have it" I lied hopefully,
"Oh really?" He asked with a raised eyebrow "so if I texted Jay right now to ask him what would he say?" He questioned,
"He...would say its's fine?" I said but it came out as more of a question,
"You're not having coke" he stated firmly and I sighed in defeat but quickly perked up when I heard a knock at the front door. Adam left to get our pizzas and I took the opportunity to gulp the half left can of coke that Adam had poured in to a glass before quickly returning to my place on the sofa "ok here we go" Adam said as he closed the front door and walked in to the kitchen with two pizza boxes "Gracie" he exclaimed "did you drink this?" He asked holding up the now empty can of coke,
"No" I lied with a slight smirk,
"You know every time you lie a fairy dies" he informed me and my eyes widened,
"I drank it! Stop the fairies from dying!" I exclaimed and he shook his head disapprovingly,
"I told you no Gracie" he chastised slightly,
"Sorry" I said as I sat down at the table in front of my small cheese pizza,
"No ice cream after dinner then" he stated and I groaned "less of that, I'm not giving you any more sugar" he lectured and I sighed in defeat before tucking in to my pizza,
"So" I began after taking a bite "when are you and Kim gonna be boyfriend and girlfriend again?" I asked curiously and frowned when Adam choked on his pizza,
"What?" He asked alarmed as he took a drink "we don't like each other like that" he shook his head,
"That's not what Kevin said" I informed and he quirked and eyebrow at me,
"Really?" He asked and I nodded,
"Yep, he said you're both too stupid to see what's right in front of you" I said as Adam shook his head,
"I wouldn't listen to what Kevin say's, he doesn't know what he's talking about" he replied,
"You still didn't answer my question" I said as Adam let out a weary sigh,
"And I don't intend to thank you very much" he smirked. We ate the rest of our meal in a comfortable silence and by the time we had finished the sugar from the coke I had drank was fully kicking in,
"Adam look how many star jumps I can do" I exclaimed as I began to show off my impressive star jumping skills,
"That's great Gracie but you shouldn't do that right after eating" he informed "that pizza's gonna make a reappearance" he warned.
"Can I go out on my bike?" I asked hopefully,
"Absolutely not" he said firmly "you're in your pyjamas and it's nearly your bedtime" he reminded and I groaned,
"I don't wanna go to bed" I whined,
"And I don't wanna work 80 hours a week but we've all gotta do things we don't wanna do" he said as I flopped back on to the sofa.
"Can I play on my nintendo?" I asked as I kicked my legs energetically,
"Jay said no electronics before bed" he reminded and I groaned even more,
"But he's not here remember" I said obviously,
"How about we read a book" he suggested "you've got loads I've seen them all in your room" he stated,
"I wanna go on my nintendo" I whined once again,
"I said no Gracie" he said firmly "come on let's not ruin the night by arguing" he suggested "are you gonna get a book?" He asked and I shook my head and crossed my arms across my chest causing him to smile "fine have it your way" he shrugged "but you're gonna get bored of sitting there after a while" he said as he sat down at the kitchen table and flicked through his phone.
Boy was he wrong! Eventually he walked back over to me,
"Ok, it's 7:00pm" he said "time for bed kid" he said as he ruffled my hair slightly,
"I don't wanna go to bed I wanna read a book" I exclaimed as I threw my head back dramatically,
"Well tuff luck" he shrugged "you had your chance to read a book before and you chose to to strop here instead" he shook his head,
"I wanna read one now" I cried,
"Did your brothers tell you that I want never gets?" He asked as he crossed his arms over his chest,
"Please" I cried but he remained firm and shook his head,
"I said no Gracie now go brush your teeth" he instructed. I can't say I like this side of Adam! Normally he just lets me do what I want! I shook my head with a deep frown causing him to raise his eyebrows at me "Gracie" he warned but I remained determined "you want me to call Jay?" He asked and my frown faltered slightly and I shook my head "then go and brush your teeth and get in bed" he ordered and I caved it. I hopped off the sofa and entered the bathroom before an idea popped in to my head. In a flash I slammed the door behind me and pushed the lock across with a loud click "Gracie?" I heard Adam ask before he knocked on the door "Gracie Halstead open this door right now" he demanded,
"No! I'm not going to bed!" I shouted back,
"Right I'm calling Jay" he warned and I huffed in defiance.
Adams POV
I sighed angrily as I pulled out my phone and hesitated to click on Jays name. He really deserved this night out and I didn't want him to have to cut it short to come sort his little sister out. Especially because she's had to much sugar! So I clicked on the next best thing and waited for him to answer,
"Hello?" he answered,
"I've got a situation" I began to explain to him the situation that has led to Gracie locking herself in the bathroom,
"Ok ok" he sighed "I'm coming over now but you owe me one bro" he said and I nodded,
"You got it" I said before hanging up,
"This is your last chance Gracie" I shouted "are you gonna open up?" I asked hopefully,
"Nope" she shouted back defiantly, I could almost hear the scowl that was on her face.
I decided to text Will and get his input,
Me: Hey, sorry to bother you but out of interest what's the best way to get your sister to behave?
Will: Oh god, what's she done? Do you need me talk to her? I can call
Me: No don't worry. She's just acting up a bit because she doesn't wanna go to bed
Will: That sounds about right. Just stand your ground and she'll give in eventually. If she doesn't just give her butt a smack and stick her in the corner for five minutes and that should do it
Me: I don't wanna spank your sister Will
Will: I'm not saying spank her I'm saying give her but a swat there's a huge difference. It'll just shock her in to behaving sometimes that what she needs
Me: Ok thanks
Will: No problem, but seriously you don't have to deal with this. I can't get off work early but Jay would understand if you need him to come home
Me: I'll be fine, see you later
I put my phone back in my pocket and looked over at the bathroom door that remained firmly closed. Urgh, I'm the fun one I don't wanna have to be strict with her! Suddenly there was a knock at the door and I got up to answer it grateful to find Kevin on the other side.
Gracies POV
My heart skipped when I heard a knock at the door and the sound of voices in the hallway. Had he called Jay? He wouldn't do that, would he?
"Gracie Halstead you open this door right now" a voice demanded from the other side of the door. Kevin?
"I don't wanna go to bed" I cried with a frustrated whine,
"Let me tell you something now kid that you're going to bed wether you like it or not so unless you want me to give you a good hiding I'd open this door and get your ass in to bed without saying another word" he lectured. Would he really give me a spanking if I didn't open the door? I'm not gonna take the risk,
"I'll open the door but I'm not going to bed" I exclaimed as I unlocked the door and made a move to walk past the two detectives,
"Ey ey ey" Adam said as grabbed my upper arm firmly but not painfully "it's time for bed Gracie" he stated as he pointed to my bedroom but I wriggled to get out of his grip only to stop when I felt a quick sharp sting of his hand on my pyjama covered behind causing me to stop in shock and tears to come to my eyes "that's enough Gracie do you understand me?" He asked and I nodded with tears in my eyes. He's never spanked me before "go get in bed right now" he demanded as he lightly pushed me In the direction of my bedroom where I scurried off and climbed in to my bed.
I laid in my bed unable to fall asleep feeling guilty about being naughty for Adam. I tiptoed out out of my bed and crept down the hallway where I found Adam on the sofa watching TV,
"Adam" I sniffed to get his attention,
"Hey, what're you doing out of bed?" He asked as he leant forward to mute the TV,
"I'm sorry I was bad and I don't want you to hate me" I sobbed and he smiled lightly,
"C'mere" he ushered me over to him before pulling me on to his knee "I don't hate you Gracie I love you like you where my own little sister" he reminded "and I didn't like having to do that Gracie but that's not acceptable behaviour" he said and I nodded in understanding,
"I'm sorry" I apologised again,
"I forgive you" he assured as he kissed the side of my head "now back to bed, it's late" he said as he lifted me off his knee,
"Will you tuck me in?" I asked and he smiled down at me,
"I'm sure that can be arranged" he said.
