(Concept: Jimin and Mina attend the same university, but Jimin is the son of a famous Hollywood actor. He meets Mina on campus, but tries to keep his background a secret)
(Mina POV)
I sat in the common area with my friends. We were chatting before we went to bed for the night.
"Do you guys want to have lunch together tomorrow? I found this new ramen place we should try." Sana suggests.
"Oh, that sounds good. I'm in. What about you, Mina?" Momo asks me.
"Hm?" I had spaced out a bit, "Oh...yeah. That sounds good."
"Okay, we can meet here before we go." Sana yawns, "I'm gonna call it a night, girls."
"That's a good idea." Momo adds.
Sana and Momo share a dorm room. They came to Korea from Japan together. I met them here and they took me in, the three of us becoming friends.
We live in the dorm for foreign students on campus. I share a room with a girl from Taiwan. We're good friends, but she has her own stuff going on most of the time.
I woke up for class in the morning. There was a bit of commotion by the entrance as I was leaving.
"I heard he's from the states."
"He's so good looking."
"He just transferred here?"
"Who is it?"
I got a glimpse of what was going on on my way out. A new student was moving in. He seemed to be popular already.
His roommate was my friend Chan. The new guy's name was Jimin. Chan told me he was born in Korea, but he was an orphan. He moved to the states with his adoptive parents. He came back to Korea to study and learn more about where he's from.
Chan and I are good friends. He's a good friend to all of us: Sana, Momo, and me. Chan's from Australia, but we've known him ever since we've been here.
The four of us were hanging out in Chan's room one day after school, talking into the night. After the sun went down, his roommate joins us.
"Oh, uh...hi." He walked in slowly.
"Oh, hey, sorry Jimin!" Chan stands up, "These are my friends: Sana, Momo, and Mina."
He introduces us. We all greet him.
"We like to hangout here sometimes, sorry, guess I should've told you beforehand."
"I-It's alright. Nice to meet you. I'm Jimin." He bows.
We made eye contact for a split second. After that, he wouldn't look me in the eyes again. I felt strange so I let the others do the talking.
"Nice to meet you! You're new here, right?" Sana asks.
"Yes. Today's actually my first day."
"That's so cool, right?" Chan says, "You're gonna love it here."
The next day, Chan came up to me in the common area while I was eating breakfast. He had a small smirk on his face. I knew he was up to something.
"What's with you? What's with that look?" I ask.
"Nothing~!" He giggles, "Just eat, don't mind me."
I finish eating my food, but I kept an eye on him.
"Oi, Jimin! Come sit with us!" Chan calls.
Jimin was walking around, looking for somewhere to sit and eat his food.
"Thanks, Chan." He sits at our table.
Jimin didn't even acknowledge me. What did I do?
"So, Jimin. You're from the U.S., right? Which part?"
"I'm from California." He says.
"That's nice. It must've been fun there." Chan was carrying the conversation, "Hey, Mina, weren't you born in the U.S.?"
"Oh," I look up and Jimin finally makes eye contact with me. "Y-yeah. I was born in Texas, but I grew up in Japan. I don't remember much of living in the states."
"What brought you to Korea?" Jimin asks me.
"I actually got a scholarship. I thought I should step out of my comfort zone too, and it's not too far from home."
Jimin kept talking to me, I didn't even realize Chan had gotten up and left us.
I also realized I was gonna be late for class if I didn't hurry.
"Oh shoot, I better go. It was nice talking, Jimin. I'll see you around." I started to get up.
"W-wait!" He stops me, grabbing my wrist. "I um..." He lets go, "Would you like to go out with me?"
Was I hearing that right?
"You want to go out...with me?" I ask.
He nods, "I think you're really cool, Mina."
I said yes to the date.
It was kind of awkward at first, but overall, I enjoyed it. He's really sweet. I thought he was cute. I wasn't sure about my feelings for him yet, but I admired him.
The next morning, I woke up and went downstairs to get breakfast like usual.
Except today, people were giving me strange looks, like they were avoiding me.
I sat down to eat and Sana and Momo come rushing towards me.
"Mina! Mina! Is it true?" They fall onto the couch next to me.
"What? Is what true?"
Momo shows me her phone. It was several news articles.
PARK JIMIN DATING IN KOREA
PARK JIMIN SPOTTED ON A DATE
GIRLFRIEND HIS FIRST WEEK IN KOREA?
"What..?" I kept reading until it hit me.
Someone got photos of us on our date, but why did it matter? It was just a date...
Jimin...
Park Jimin.
His dad was....
Jimin is the son of a world class celebrity. That makes him...a celebrity.
How did I not know??
"That's you in the picture, right?" Sana asks.
"Yeah, that's me."
"Did you know? You knew he was famous right?"
"No, I had no idea." I was still in shock.
Just then, someone grabs my wrist.
"Mina, we have to talk. Hurry-" I look up. It was Jimin. We were running down the halls to his room.
"Look, I know what you're thinking, but I was going to tell you, it's just-" he starts rambling.
"Jimin, wait." I say.
He stops.
"I don't mind that you're famous." I sigh, "But what are you gonna tell everyone? They think I'm your girlfriend."
He looks down, "Well...I was gonna ask you...do you wanna be my girlfriend? I know we only went in one date, but I don't want to tell them you're not my girlfriend and then you might eventually become my girlfriend-" he was rambling again.
"Jimin." I put my hand on his shoulder.
"Sorry." He laughs nervously, "So...do you want to be my girlfriend?"
Things were moving fast, but I trusted my gut.
"I'd love to."
He sighs, relieved, hugging me.
"I'm sorry things have to be this way, but I promise this doesn't change the way I feel about you." He says.
It was strange having our relationship decided before I even made a decision, but I don't regret anything.
My feelings for him only grew stronger as time went on.
