people like to think
my depression
is just being sad
it's not
it's emptiness on a Saturday morning
with nothing to do
because without distractions
you can't feel
it's staying awake until sunrise
hoping that caffeine will take you through the day
because the repetition in the nightmares
feels so close to reality
it's shower temperatures
turned from scalding hot to
frigid cold
hoping that the change will make you feel
it's not just sad
it's nothingness
hopelessness
eternal dread
that the world spins on
leaving you behind
in the darkness
that is yourself
