Third Person POV

Race leaned against the wall of the bunk room, his cup still in his hand.

Spot looks over at him.

Race copies his actions. "Hi."

"Hey." Spot smiles slightly. "Whatcha' doing?" He asks.

"Taking a break from the crazies." Race answers, lifting his cup to his lips.

"If I remember correctly," Spot starts, a smirk on his lips. "You were one of the ones who started and fueled the crazies forever." He comments.

Race rolls his eyes. "You clearly have a horrible memory." He responds.

Spot let out something between a scoff and a chuckle. "Sure, sure." He takes a sip of his drink.

Both boys fell silent for a few minutes.

"Spot?"

"Hm?" Spot looks over at the blonde-haired boy.

Race was staring at the soda in his cup to avoid eye contact. "Do you think I'm smart?" He asks quietly.

Spot was slightly confused by this question. "Yeah, course." He answers without hesitation. "Why?" He asks.

Race shrugs slightly, still avoiding eye contact. "Davey and I were talking and he told me I was smart." He starts. "After I disagreed,"

Spot frowns.

"He said anyone would tell me I'm smart." Race explains. "I guess... I just wanted to know." He informs him.

Spot's frown deepened. "Why don't you think you're smart?" He asks.

Race looks up at him. "Please, Spot." He scoffs slightly. "I went to school for not even a year and then was pulled out by my father." He tells him. "I can't write well and I can barely read. I'm an idiot." Race states, lifting his drink to his lips again.

Spot grabs his wrist, turning Race to face him.

Race's eyes widen as he stares into Spot's brown eyes.

Their faces were only centimeters apart.

"Listen to me, Racetrack Higgins." Spot almost growls, his gaze stern and strong. "You do NOT get to talk bad about yourself." He scolds him. "You are very smart and if I need to prove that to you, I will." He tells him. "Got it?" Spot raises an eyebrow at him.

Blush broke out over Race's face, spreading quickly as he gulps. "Yeah." He squeaks.

Spot nods, letting go of his wrist and pulling away from Race.

He picks up the cup that Race had set down, looking down at it. "I'm gonna refill this." Spot mutters, turning and leaving the room.

Race watches him go, his eyes wide, his face red, and his jaw dropped.

As soon as Spot was out of the room, the window burst open.

Race whips around.

Jack jumped in through the window, a grinning Crutchie on his back.

Race exhales, his hand on his chest. "You freaked me out." He states.

"Sorry." Crutchie giggles a bit.

Jack smiles.

Race rolls his eyes. "Couples." He mutters, turning to walk off.

Jack scoffs, crossing Crutchie's legs- that were wrapped around him- because he couldn't cross his arms while holding Crutchie. "You say that as if you and Spot didn't just have a mo-ment." He responds with an obvious look on his face.

Race's cheeks went red again as he turned back around to face them. "We didn't." He responds quietly.

Jack and Crutchie burst out laughing.

Race rolls his eyes, crossing his arms and glaring at them with an unimpressed look on his face.

(A/N, *typing into Google* how to make sure people know someone's a teenager based on their attitude-)

Jack wipes his eyes. "Good one, Racer." He tells him. "You really had the fellas going."

"You and Crutchie are the only ones in here, Jack." Race reminds him.

Jack shoots him a look. "'The fellas' being Crutchie and I, duh." He responds.

Annoyed, Race rolls his eyes. "Glad to have you back, Jack." He tells him sarcastically.

Jack gasps dramatically, looking at Crutchie. "Do you hear that, Crutchie?" He asks him. "My baby brother was just sarcastic with me after all I've done for him!" He dramatizes, looking mock-heartbroken.

Crutchie chuckles, patting Jack's head/poofy hair. "What ever will we do?" He plays along with Jack's dramatics.

"At least someone loves me." Jack shoots Race a dramatic- and pathetic- look.

Race rolls his eyes. "Crutch," he starts. "Always an Angel. I love you." He tells him.

Crutchie smiles.

Jack gasps over-dramatically. "Favoritism." He accuses. "But it's fair and I agree." He presses a soft kiss to Crutchie's cheek.

Crutchie blushes.

Smiling, Race rolls his eyes and leaves the room.

He heard Jack gasp again. "Crutchie! He's leaving me!" He dramatizes.

Race rolls his eyes again, turning back around as he walks.

He almost walked into someone, causing him to stumble a bit, but he didn't fall.

"Jeez, Higgins, I get that I'm hot, but you don't have to fall for me." Spot smirks, winking at Race.

Race blushes. "Shut it, Conlon." He mutters, looking away.

Spot chuckles, holding a full cup of soda out for Race. "Here." He hands it to him.

Confused, Race looks from it to him.

Spot rolls his eyes. "I accidentally grabbed your cup and didn't realize it until I filled it." He informs him. "Don't worry, I didn't take a sip." He tells him.

Race nods. "Your cup is back in the bunk room." He informs him.

Spot nods, walking off.

Race watches him, before looking back at the cup. He felt butterflies in his stomach, but ignored it as he walked back to the downstairs of the Lodge.

Spot turns the door knob to the bunk room, opening the door.

He saw Jack rolling around on the ground dramatically and Crutchie sitting on a bunk, his hands over his mouth as he laughed.

"Race-" Jack looks over at Spot.

Spot raises an eyebrow at him.

Jack's face went red in embarrassment as he quickly scrambled to get up. He quickly brushes the dirt off of himself, looking at Spot. "I-" he starts.

Spot puts his hand up.

Jack stops speaking.

"I really-" Spot looks Jack up and down again. "really don't want to hear it." He tells him. "I just came to grab this." He holds up the cup that he had grabbed, showing it to the other two boys in the room, before leaving.

Jack's face was still red in embarrassment as he looked over at Crutchie.

Crutchie was giggling as he tried to suppress laughs.

Jack rolls his eyes, puffing his cheeks out as he crosses his arms and looks away. "I need Davey." He mutters.

Crutchie starts laughing harder.
