This is defiantly not ranked according to the ones I think are the saddest because every reader felt differently about each character and in the end, they were all humans and it would b unfair to say which was the saddest death. But here we go.
1. Vincent Crabbe
Crabbe was Draco Malfoy's friend and I think even though some felt he was not all that intelligent and was after all Draco's lackey, he was still Draco's friend, and we all know that Draco doesn't have many to call friends so I feel really bad for him as well as for Goyle.
2.Merope Gaunt
This was Voldemort's mother. I kind of felt bad for him when I read this part of Harry Potter. She just wanted love. It was on Tom Riddle Snr that he couldn't love someone even though they may not look appealing to him.
3. Regulus Black.
He was a really underappreciated character. His family believed he died betraying the Death Eaters when in actual fact he was trying to do the right thing. He drowned in an attempt to destroy one of Voldemort's horcruxes. He was a silent hero. What really hit me was that he died without his brother, Sirius, knowing he was trying to do the right thing. He tried to do the right thing for his bother. Now its sad to know that both brothers are dead and they died not knowing how much they loved each other.
4.Colin Creevey
We all have our hobbies and it just so happened that Colin's happened to tick some people off, I know it made me want to slap him sometimes. He was so young, what I think stung the most was, like Lavender Brown, he stayed to fight in the last battle instead of going through the cupboard and into Hogsmead. That showed bravery.
5.Charity Burbage
Some of you might not remember this name but I think its important. She was a Muggles Studies professor who was seen in the last book. When Severus Snape enters the Death Eaters meeting, he found Charity floating over the table. The last words she said I think I will never forget: 'Severus, please! We're friends!' What if in some way they really were friends, what of she was kind to the professor? It has to make you think, not only did Voldermort kill the love of his life, but he also kills his friend. It just makes me want to cry, because I think we all know how lonely Severus was. She didn't deserve to die. I think, theoretically, her death might have pushed him over the edge and motivate him even more to betray Voldermort.
6.Lavender Brown
I think this really was unexpected, especially how she was killed- mauled to death my Fenrir Greyback, that just seems horrible. Her death was really overlooked amongst the casualties. We all kind of disliked her a bit considering she was getting in the way on Ron and Hermione, but I think she was a nice person. She, after all was dating Ron and she might have felt a little intimidated by Hermione, I mean who wouldn't. And the fact that she comes and sees Ron after he was injured proves she was a caring person, even if she did go all ae mad when she found Hermione there. Who wouldn't? Wouldn't you get a little mad if you see another person at your boyfriend/girlfriend's side when they are injured. She also deserves a little credit considering she also came back to fight in the final battle at Hogwarts.
7.Alastor Moody
He really was a brave guy; I mean he tried to protect Mundungus Fletcher even though he tried to flee the battle. Even though he was a bit wacky, the man was just trying to protect everyone.
8. Tonks
This one just hurts. She was still young; she just gave birth to her son and she has to die. I feel like her death was so unnecessary, but yet she still did. I also think that her death as well as Remus was well overlooked. Harry was like 'Oh look, there's Remus and Tonks on the ground, dead.' She deserved so much more. Especially considering she lost her father, Ted, and her husband. She was really positive which I liked about her character, and she was really funny. I loved the fact that she insisted that she marry Remus Lupin even though he was older than her, poorer and he was a werewolf. True love, I guess.
9.Severus Snape
Its funny how a guy we hated for like 6 books can make us cry with his death. I just have no words. He was wronged on so many levels. His leader killed the woman he loved and his friend (Charity Burbage, sorry, I'm still adamant that they were actually friends) and is expected not to turn on Voldermort. I think that he would have made a great father figure to harry. I loved his sarcasm. And I think he was actually a good teacher. When Harry was choosing what he wanted to be when he left Hogwarts, he was sure Snape wouldn't give him a pass for Potions, but he actually passed him would an O (Outstanding), got to make you think.
10. Remus Lupin
This genuinely killed me. A new husband and father, last of the Marauders. There's so much to say about him though. What saddens me was that his death was also just rushed over during the battle just like Tonks. He was really kind and sweet and the chocolate thing makes my heart flutter, really under-rated character. The fact that he was a werewolf, which is something we see as violent, he was really a gentle person. Another fact that just tore me up was that he always had chocolate on him, werewolves are supposedly canines, chocolate is toxic to canines....... Let that sink in. He really was afraid and embarrassed about his lycanthropy side which can be related to many other conditions and diseases out there. Another thing is that I think he was a really great teacher, he sounded fun, but he had to get fired. His death is also a parallel to Lilly and James Potter- the were still young and just had a baby, they were killed, leaving behind an orphan, just like Teddy Lupin and Harry Potter. And Harry just so happened to be his godfather,
11. Fred Weasley
This brings tears to my eyes every time I think about it. Firstly, who didn't love the twins, and the fact that he was reconciling with Percy after Percy just made a joke.... The man died laughing, he made so many other people to laugh at his joke but ended up laughing at his own death. He, and George, brought so much humour to the book, a spark of hope and laughter especially during such dark times. I feel so bad about George, I know what its like losing a loved one, but a twin, some on who was always there with you, that is messed up on a whole other level. It's funny how they never saw each other grow old, except when they tried to put their name in the Goblet of Fire...again. Messed up. I never really did expect this really, I honestly expected him to reappear somewhere during the battle after they thought he was killed. Another point that I find interesting is that he was a prankster, just like Sirius Black and they both died laughing.
12. Cedric Diggory
I swear, I hated Voldermort for this. It showed his ruthlessness and cruelty. 'Kill the spare.' When I realised who played Cedric Diggory in the movie, I think I cried a little. But Cedric was such a nice person, especially for helping Harry during the tournament. I felt so sad when Harr emerged with dead Cedric at the end of the tournament and his father exclaimed,' That's my boy!' thinking he had won, and I can't forget about Cho, she was so broken after his death.
13.James Potter
I think that's enough said. He died in the hopes that his wife and child would live. He died not knowing that Lily would die. Imagine how brave he would have been to tell them to hide while he tried to fend off Voldermort, even though he probably knew he would die. First marauder to die.
14. Sirius Black
First death I cried for in Harry Potter. He died laughing by his cousin, how sick. He had so much to live for, Moony and Harry. He died not seeing Remus and Tonks' wedding and their son. He would have been a great uncle, I guess. If only he didn't go to the ministry that day, he would still be alive. Which is funny because he technically didn't die, he was merely pushed into a mirror. After a bit, I felt numb. In the movie, Harry's scream, or lack of, just tore me to shreds. He was the last one left of his family, immediate. It was funny because he never really interacted with Tonks, who happened to be his mother's sisters' daughter and therefore, cousin. (Here's a thought, his best friend married his cousin). I love the fact that Molly somewhat avenged his death by killing Bellatrix, even though they didn't particularly get on.
15. Lily Potter
This is just heart-breaking. She had the option to save herself, but she didn't, she wanted to save Harry. Imagine knowing your husband had just died at the hands of a serial killer, but you still have to be strong for you child. She had a lot of guts. Another reason why I love Lily is that she was friends with Severus even though he was a Slytherin, and probably a little weird, but she protected him from bullies, the irony is that he loved her but she marries his bully.
16. Hedwig'
Hedwig's death was the last nail. We all loved her loyalness and sassiness. She was Harry's introduction into the wizarding world. It's funny because, he the very first time we meet Harry, he is taken by Hagrid to Diagon Alley, where the bought her and in the last book, as he leaves the house for good, Hedwig is killed. She died protecting Harry.
17. Dobby
I don't even need to say more. He was loyal to the end. He wanted to protect Harry even from the beginning, even though it was a bit messed up, his intentions were good. The scene where he dies on the beach just kills me. The fact that Harry manually digs his grave even though he could have used an easier method makes me want to sob. Dobby was different from all house elves. He is know a free elf.
