"Can't we go there some other time, Jungkook? You know it's Christmas Eve."
"No, we can't. Don't worry, I'll drop you back home before ten thirty. Please- just come with me? Umm?" Jungkook pleased.
"Tch, ohkay- Atleast tell me where are we going. I'll wear the outfit accordingly."
"Umm, wear warm clothes. It's outdoor. Now go get ready. I'll pick you in ten." And before I could argue, he hung up.
In ten!?
I immediately hoisted myself off the bed and rushed to the cupboard- which had now turned into an aesthetic white and black wardrobe. All thanks to Jungkook's dressing style.
Hmm- warm clothes. I picked out a pair of black jeans, a full sleeve-deep neck grey top and not to forget, Jungkook's huge fluffy jacket.
I pulled my hair up into a high pony, setting it like Ariana, and then a few splashes of mist-
I heard the door bell ring. Someone opened the door, followed by faint greetings from Koo. I rushed out of my room immediately.
"These are your 10 minutes? It's not even been 5!" I teased as I hoped down the steps.
"I didn't call you! I'm here to meet Mum!" He swung an arm around my mom's shoulder. Oh right- did I mention? Jungkook now called my parents mom and dad too, apparently mom and Mrs. Jeon got into a challenge or something.
"Oh, have fun!" I laughed and walked towards the kitchen for a glass of water- basically eavesdropping over mum and his conversation.
"How are you, love?" Mum asked.
"I'm good!" Jungkook replied.
"I am seeing the three of you, early tommorow morning right?"
"Yes! I'll be here again before you know it!" He said.
"That's good! Now, I know I don't have to tell you this- but, drop Y/n back before 11pm" mom sweetly said. I silently laughed. Mom increased his time limit from 10:30 to 11- I wish I could see his happy reaction to it.
"Yes mom! Not a minute extra!"
I walked into the living room to catch Jungkook's attention, who immediately stood up from the couch.
"Have fun kids! And take care, don't catch cold!" Mom said, while we walked towards the door.
"Yes mom!" Both of us replied in unison before we burst out laughing on our way out.
"May I?" He dramatically bent down on the steps before me, extending his right hand out to me with a bow.
"You may." I acted out, placing my hand elegantly into his. He stood up to kiss the back of my palm.
"Your highness, I'm honoured." He said, now holding my hand with both of his. I couldn't help but laugh.
"Have you been reading old dramas now?" I asked.
"NoooOooo! You know I don't read! I am creative myself too!" He puffed his cheeks.
"Is it now?" I giggled and started walking towards his car which was parked right outside my gate, "Where are we going?"
"You'll know." He said in a kinky tone, successfully sending chills down my spine. WHAT DID HE MEAN!?
I got into the passenger side and threw my sling bag onto the back seat.
"Buckle up." He ordered.
"Drive properly instead." I smiled at Jungkook, who was doing his belt.
"You want to creat that romantic scene where I hover around you and buckle it for you and then, you'll- kiss- me?" I didn't realise how intently I was adoring him, until he stuttered and moved his face closer to mine.
My eyes dropped shut the second his sweet breath tickled my nose. His lips felt soft over mine as he slid one hand around me and pulled the seat belt to lock it in place. After a moment he pulled away, leaving my ripe-tomato red face to rest. Oh the animal kingdom walking right into my stomach.
"Stop acting all cute or I'll have to shift the plans to indoor." He said, as he turned the keys in the ignition and firmly gripped the gear, looking straight ahead.
It felt like my cheeks were going to burst with all the blood rush and me trying to hold back a smile, "You're turning into a wild bear." I laughed.
"Not actually. It's been soo long since- you know... Sesha's birthday??" He said, looking at the not so buzy road.
"Amm, you mean- since we...had-"
"Yes. Yes. EXACTLY THAT." He said, as if holding back some emotions from slipping.
" 'Its been long' and what about the 18 years before it?" I questioned.
"Once you know the taste of it, you just can't have enough of it." He said with smirky smile.
"Ohh-..." I got lost in my thought about-, "hmm..." i dramatically hesitated before, "sha- shall we, take it indoors then?" I pulled my eyebrows up with a tight pout.
NO. NO ONE WILL TALK ABOUT HOW I CAUGHT A BAD HABIT OF BEING OVERLY DRAMATIC BECAUSE OF HIM!
He evilly laughed and spanked the steering wheel once, before taking a sharp u-turn. SHIT. I was not serious.
"J- Jungkook?" I stuttered out.
"Hmmm-phh?" He heavily breath out once, throwing me a short look before looking back at the road.
"J-jungkook. Where- are we going!?" I placed my hand on his forearm which was attached to the steering wheel.
"You started it." He smirked sharply at me once, before shifting the gear and holding the wheel with both his hands. He was excessively fast.
"Jungkook. Slow down. Slow down!" I said, holding my seat belt with one hand and his arm in the other. He just breathed out heavily in response.
I pushed my back into the seat and shut my eyes tightly. He took a few turns before the speed gradually started reducing- until the car came to a smooth halt.
I could hear the engine turn off, but still couldn't come up to opening my eyes. My fear of speed was still no less.
"Tch, open you eyes Y/n." He whispered softly near my ear, over the chattering background voices.
When I didn't respond, he made my body turn towards his and repeated, "Show me your eyes." It was more like a command this time.
With a scared look, I consecutively opened my eyelids- to meet the sight for sore eyes. Jungkook's smiling face.
He chucked and gestured his eyes towards the view outside the car. I slowly turned my face-
OH MY GODDD! SKY LANTERN FEST.
"You see why I needed to get you here today? It's not snowing!" Jungkook exclaimed, tugging on to my wrist. I returned the same excided expression.
"Wait here." He said and turned to get out of the car. I followed his movements as he walked back to the trunk and pulled out a pair of beautiful sky lanterns.
He then came to my door and pulled it open for me. I grabbed his hand which he extended in offer, and hopped off- closing the door behind me.
I couldn't stop gazing at the amount of couples who were gathered.
"Let's go there-" he said, pulling me along with him towards the stand where paints were stacked.
He picked a small bottle and a brush, then started pulling me towards a patch of open ground and sat us down.
I just couldn't stop smiling. It was soo unexpected- plus he was being just soo romantic.
"What are we writing?" I asked as he unsealed the bottle and set a lantern down.
"Hmm-" he craned his neck to peek over our neighbouring shoulders, "I don't know. You tell me."
I took my moment to come up with something different.
"Jeon jungkook-?" I spoke, making him look up at me, "You mean the world to me. Every time a butterfly flaps it's wings- my love for you increases. I know I don't show my affection for you with my words very often, cause I'm not good at it, But- your love puts me into a warm place. And I really just want to stay there. Forever. Will you be there always?" I tried recreating my words which I said that night when he was asleep in my arms,- while I neatly stroked the brush over the thin sheet.
"Promise?" I read out.
Jungkook smiled and took the brush from me after unpacking the second lantern, "It's okay if you don't speak it out Y/n. I love you. I will always be there."
"Promise." He read out from his art.
I didn't even know how to react, so I just hugged him- almost tripping both of us back on the ground.
"I love you too." I whispered into his skin. He held me close to him, tightly- as he caressed my head and let his face into my neck.
It was a long moment. No external interruptions. That was when I realised what 'living in the moment' ment. Just- holding onto eachother.
"Let's light them." He pulled away.
I slowly nodded and stood up, holding his fingers interlocked in mine.
I held the lanterns up as he lit the small candles that would help them fly up into the sky.
We exchanged excited glances as we saw the two balloons fill up and become lighter. After a few minutes they were fully blown up.
We held the two lanterns between our bodies, holding one side of each of them.
"Promise?" I asked.
"Promise." He repeated, as we simultaneously let go of the frames. The lantern started rising up along with the other's.
Jungkook pulled me into a side hug and kissed my cheek before we stood there for a lot of time, looking at our lanterns fly up together. It was a beautiful sight. A Promise that would remain forever.
"It's just 10 now. We have lots of time. What do you want to do?"
"So really no indoors?" I teased.
He smiled and shook his head before looking back- up at the flood of lanterns.
"Let's go-" I tugged onto his hand whilst pulling him towards his car.
"Where?" He questioned as I guided him to the passenger seat. He quietly handed me the keys.
I hopped into the driver's side and pushed the keys in, twisting it in the ignition. I drove out- heading towards the nearest store.
Jungkook sat there silently as he constantly shifted his gaze between my grinning face and the car screen where he kept switching radio channels for romantic music.
When we reached the store, Jungkook got out with a mystified look but followed me in anyway. I knew where the drinks lane was, so I rushed towards it immediately. I grabbed 5 cans of Soju and walked over to the counter with Jungkook tip toeing behind me.
"Have you been drinking?" He asked.
"Not since you left for Canada." I said with an innocent smile as I passed them down to the cashier.
"Liar. You snapped me yourself sharing drinks with colleagues from the cafe."
I laughed out, "That was just once. And I had fruit beer. You can't count that has drink! It had no alcohol!"
"Whatever floats your boat!" He said, before grabbing the cans from the counter and giggling.
He placed the cans at the back, as I quickly jogged my way back to the driver's seat and waited for him to get in.
"Where to now?" He asked.
"You'll know." I said while driving out.
"Tch." He chuckled. He was silent for a moment-
"What are we doing for Taehyung's birthday? It's in 5 days." He asked
"He said he wanted to spend it with only close family and friends. No outings like last time. And he also said that Jeons and Kims have been invited over for New year's at Sesha's. We'll will receive the formal invitation soon." I informed. Sesha's parents were always formal.
"Ohh, that's nice." He said. I was waiting for a question in particular, but he didn't ask it.
"How- long are you here? Like- when will you be going back?" Asked, focusing on the uphill road.
It was a super short ride till the bottom belt of the hill- just another minute to the top.
"I'm- here till 8th evening." He casually said. I couldn't help but let my upsetness show on my face.
"Tch, I'm kidding. Im here till 10th early morning. Even though my college starts on 7th Jan- I'm spending your birthday with you." He said, excitedly keeping his hand on my thigh.
I almost screamed out in joy, "WHATTT- NOOOOO!!!! SERIOUSLY!???? OMGGG!" I cried out.
He laughed and placed his other hand over mine which was on the gear, "I'll make sure it will be better than last time-"
"No. No! You're not doing anything this time. We stay home, watch movies and make food. We're not going out." I sternly said, pulling over at the top most spot of the hill. You could see the whole of our city from up there.
"But whyyyy!?" He questioned as I gestured him to get out of the car. I picked a couple of cans and walked to the edge of the land, sitting down with my legs hung off the cliff. No don't worry, it was safe. Even if I slipped, I just needed two steps to walk back up.
"Because- I want to spend time with you, at home. It's anyways too cold outside."I made an excuse.
"Y/n, I know you're thinking about the accident. It won't happen agai-"
"No! We stay at home." I said, picking a flower from beside me and knotting it's stem into a circle, "we can't go out since you'll have to leave early in the morning for airport the next day. We're staying in."
"Tch. As you say. Till I'm with you- anything would do." He cheekily smiled and bent in closer to place a kiss in my shoulder.
I smiled and interlocked his fingers with mine as we sipped the drinks.
"I'm soo excited for tomorrow." He said after a few minutes of comfortable silence where we both pointed at the floating lanterns far away at a distance. Probably two of them were ours.
"Me too! It's going to be fun family time!" I exclaimed.
" 'family' ", he repeated and smiled, "Cute."
"Aren't we family?" I asked.
"Hmm, we are." He said with a smile and lifted his can to his lips, simultaneously turning towards the city lights before us.
I started swinging my legs- he followed along, copying my movements. It turned into a game as he started copying all my gestures even me gulping down the whole can.
It was getting to me already.
"Her mum calls me Love, her dad calls me Son. Alright~~" he randomly started singing out.
"But who's stealing your girl?" I giggled.
"Ohh- I'll tell you. Umm- right- there is this guy, Jungkook. He tries to steal Y/n from Koo- ALL THE FUCKING TIME." He said, shaking his head with and cute angry expression.
"Y/n says- Jungkook is hot. He might actually steal her from cute koo." I giggled at his cute face, tapping his scrunched nose once.
He laughed, "Who do you like more? Jungkook or Koo?"
"Umm- now that's a tough choice. Maybe-" I pushed a finger into his chest, "maybe I like you. No wait. I love you." I giggled- almost tripping ahead.
"Watch out!" He caught me just in time and pulled me closer to him- basically hugging me and holding me firmly, good thing he could handle his alcohol. I just wouldn't stop giggling.
"Koo-" I looked up from my lap, "will you marry me?"
His eyes widened as he pulled away, "You're drunk Y/n."
"But I'm serious right now." I said, sitting up straight.
"You're not even 18." He said.
"SO!? I'm just booking you mine. Are you rejecting me right now-" I turned toward the view and breathed in before screaming, "JEON JUNGKOOK, WILL YOU MARRY ME!??-"
He startled me with a sudden short kiss, making me shut up, "Yes. Y/n- I will marry you." He said, letting his forehead onto mine as we breathed together. I kissed him again after slipping my flower ring over the ring which he was already wearing in his fourth finger. Well, I'd given him that too.
"I'll go get another can." He said and stood up with a smile. I nodded and turned back to the fallen stars.
It felt right. All of it. Everyone was happy. He was happy. I was happy. We were together. We had a future. A perfect one. Just like our Promise.
