Annabelle's POV
BJ: good morning Anna?
I got out of the bathroom after freshening up and headed for my room.After some few minutes I was already dressed,I wore black tights a tyra short over it and then I took my denim jacket and put it on over my black top.
After braiding my hair into a simple ponytail, I took my phone with me and headed to the kitchen.My mum and grandma had not woken up,it was only Sam and I.
I prepared tea fried eggs and sausage for breakfast. I sat on the dinning table after setting the table for breakfast. I was waiting for grandma and mum to join me as I checked my email for any mails.
I had graduated from high school so, I was expecting my results before the new year kicked in. I was really nervous at the moment,as I checked my email, I hoped for good grades.
I had alot of emails but I was looking for the one from the school principal of Haven highschool,my former school. I kept on looking for it until a message popped in.
I scrolled through it then I saw a message from BJ. I had forgotten I had his number on my phone.We had exchanged numbers on the day we met by the highlands of pinneapple.
I really had to start getting used to the idea of having a friend in my life. I was used to not having friends but now I had to remind myself everyday that BJ is now my friend.
I didn't know why I still panicked at the thought of him, anyways it's normal as my grandma said. I replied quickly to his message.
BJ:good morning Anna?
Me: morning BJ, how are you?
BJ:Am good Anna what are you up to today?
Me: Well, I'll be going to the market later with my mom and grandma to help out what about you?
BJ: Nothing, I'll just be exploring pineapple once again.
Me: Okay that's great have a nice time then.
BJ: Thanks Anna, have a great time too.
Me: Thanks BJ bye.
BJ:Bye Anna.
After chatting with BJ for a while,I went back to my mails to check for my results. I was sure it had to be out today as the principal had informed us before we graduated from high school.
I didn't have time to reply to the emails I had already received because it wasn't important to me as my results. I was busy still checking untill grandma and mom walked in to Join me for breakfast.
I was surprised when they both walked in together until I thought their alarms went off at the same time yet they slept in different rooms.They greeted me then we prayed before having breakfast.
I kept my phone down and dug into my breakfast before they both begin scolding me for using the phone instead of concentrating on my breakfast.
After breakfast,my mum did the utensils as grandma and I watered the flowers.The compound was still clean because we had done alot of Cleaning before Christmas.There after, grandma went to the garden which was near the backyard to uproot weeds and harvest more tomatoes for sale.Her garden was tiny but she had planted pineapple vegetables chillies and passion fruit which she added recently.
She chose to sell tomatoes chillies and pineapple because they were plenty.As for the vegetables and passion fruit, she planted purposely for consumption.She did not like anyone getting to her garden without her consent.Sometimes I offered to help out but she refused, only she and mum were allowed in the garden.
I later came to understand that grandma did not me in her garden because she didn't want me to ruin the crops because the path around the garden was tiny besides, she felt like I needed to learn a few things about agriculture before I became a farmer like her.So, she promised to teach me when she there was enough time.
I trusted grandma and that made me practice patient, she had faith in me that's why she allowed me to sell her tomatoes with her in the first place.
When there was no more work for me,I sat at the backyard and checked my email again.The mails I had was a bunch and it was useless.after going through each of them I deleted the ones that were less important.
After a long search for the one important email from the principal I gave up. I thought maybe the date was changed or rather postponed.But the principal was always organised and she would always email us or our parents in case there was change of plans.
The more I anticipated for my results the more anxious I became. I bet my mum would inform me whenever she got any emails from school.But she hadn't and she was always with her phone.
I thought maybe I should inquire from her instead of burning myself with questions.As I was about to get up from the couch,a notification popped in from the screen. I sat back on the couch because It was an email.
I was anxious, the strength I had left me and I became weak suddenly.The "what ifs" started clouding my thoughts.Yes I Know I was waiting for this moment eargely but I was afraid to check the mail. I didn't want to get disappointed by the outcome because I really wished and hoped to enroll in one of the best University through scholarship.
I didn't want my mum to be the first to check my results. I wanted to be the one with the good news to share to both grandma and mum.So, I said a little prayer to God before I checked the mail.
I was sure the mail had to be from the principal because it made me tense, unlike the ones I had already checked.
I breathed in and out before I opened my email. I was prepared for the any outcome of the results. I closed my eyes then opened it multiple times,I had to be calm because I didn't want to pass out if the outcome was disappointing.
I opened my email after some few minutes. I was so dramatic at the moment because I opened one eye to check the email while the other was closed.My hands were trembling at the moment in such a way that my phone would fall from my hand if I wasn't careful.My left hand was on my chest,to ensure my heart was still in its rightful place because my heart beat was rapid.
What I saw on the screen made me happy, thrilled excited and glad for lack of better words.
"Yesss, yesss yessss, I did it."I screamed loudly until my grandma and mum came rushing to where I was. I could see how confused they were by my sudden reaction.
"What Is happening Annabelle,did you win a lottery."Grandma asked me and that made me laugh.That moment I wished I had also won a lottery after trying countless times to place bets but failed terribly.
"Then what is it honey,"mum questioned me with a solemn face. I told grandma and mum to join me on the couch first. I wanted them to make a quick guess before I revealed to them them the good news.
"Why don't you both guess before I tell you,"I requested them.
Grandma made all the guesses but she gave up and said that she wasn't good at guessing.Mum tried after failing a couple times,she begged me to out with it while pouting like a baby who has been denied milk.
Well, I took out my phone and showed the email to both of them.They both jolted from the seat to hug me tightly while mouthing congratulations to me.Their embrace was warm I swear I couldn't breathe.
I laughed happily unit tears started streaming on my face.After the both of them let go of me,I saw tears on their faces too.That made me broke down endlessly, I couldn't hold back the tears any more my vision became blur.
"Am so happy for you granddaughter,you have done us proud.Thank you very much for working hard and producing the best results.This is a good privilege for you to live up to your dreams.you deserve the best and I wish you the best sweetheart."
Grandma's speech made me feel good. I hugged her and rested my face on her chest.Mum sniffles on my side made me shoot up to look at her.She was still in tears but I could tell it was joyous because she was smiling greatly. I tried wiping the tears for her but she caught my hand and kissed it affectionately.
"You Know honey,am super proud of you. This is the best news I've heard in a long time.Thank you for making your grandma and I happy. I know I didn't have time for you during your studies but am glad you made it.Am so damn lucky to have you as my daughter.Just so you know your grandma and I will be with you in every step of the way while you walk that path towards your dream.And remember,we have God almighty to be grateful for.
Mum looked at me while smiling and that's when I kissed her on the cheek and hugged her.I had cried enough,until tears fell no more.The three of us embraced and I felt at home and at peace because God had answered my prayers.I forever remain grateful to God for the rest of my life.
