I turned to face him in the bed. He kept twitching in agony as the pain caused him to spasm.
"It's ok," I said reaching my hand out and got an electric shock from him. "Owww," I screeched as I snatched it away and noticed the smell of static in the air.
"Get up on the bed," Rema said appearing.
"What... no he is hurt," I replied. "He hurt me with an electric shock like one of those zapper pens."
"He has been healed. You can be his grounder the others have tried and it isn't working. He needs somebody as a buffer. You are here to claim him and what better way than to get on the bed with him," she said pulling my top off leaving me in my string vest top and I regretted not wearing a bra under it.
"This is going to hurt," I grumbled as I climbed up on the bed.
"Everything is hurting, his teeth are having toothache all at once, his eyes are burning. The current is running around his body from his brain to the tips of his toe and even his genitals..."
"Ok I get it, he is fried," I said lying down.
"You have injuries too so it may sting whilst it is repairing you. That is if the current is attracted to you, a bit like an electric eel, which is good as Suri won't like you going home in this state. So calm him down and remember what you feel is nothing compared to what he is going through and it has to be skin to skin," she said as she pulled the top sheet off the bed and yanking my jeans. Great I was in my underwear and about to become toast!
I took a deep breath and reached over to him. It was my turn to scream. Thousands of tiny electric shocks hit me at once. I felt my hair stand on end. Pains shot through my body shooting up and down my spine and around my ribs. I felt like I could have shot lightening bolts out my backside. I never knew a bum hole had so many nerve endings! Oh my god my nipples.... owwww. My insides felt like a pinball machine and when I got to the stage I was desperate to push him away I fought the urge and hugged him tighter as Rema called out 'stay there Mae your healing'. One minute there was a pain in my arm, then my lip or ankle. Pains shooting across my cheek bones making me whimper and screw my face up. Banging your funny bone was a gentle kiss compared to this.
A few minutes as it subsided.
"There we go, much better," Rema said.
"That was awful," I mumbled. "Lee you owe me a McDonalds... wait no a steak with wine and posh potatoes."
"He probably can't see or hear you yet as his eyes are burning and his ears will be whistling so let him just feel you there. Give him comfort as he will recognise who you are as you have laid together before."
"When the twins were in hospital," I said almost to myself.
"Well that is not what I was referring to but if you can mimick that relaxed feeling he will benefit from it," she replied.
I remembered how he had a headache one particularly stressful day and I had held his hand on my knee to comfort him whilst we listened to the doctors talking about the babies. I started to do this weird sort of stroking thing on the back of his hand a bit like when you fuss a cat. I had never done it to anyone before and he took the piss out of me asking if he should purr. I loved the way we could joke so easily and it helped him relax from then on when he was tired he would put his hand on my lap for me to do it again. It was a private joke but I found myself doing it again now and he calmed down to the point where I felt his body relaxing.
I felt terrible for asking Uncle to heal him if this was what he got for it. I would make amends and cuddle him for as long as I could. I wriggled into a comfortable position so his head was on my chest. I could feel his heart racing against my stomach. My no sleep, stress, fighting and this last bout of shock treatment meant I was ready to crash out here with him. I closed my eyes and tried to ignore the occasional aftershocks that flowed through my body. Just pretending we were back in that hospital bed in the twins room and catching a few hours of sleep before the next feed.
"I'm just seeing if he wants some morphine," his father said sometime later. I must have dozed off.
"Get me some," I joked.
"You look a bit crispy," he teased.
"Do I smell of bacon or static?" I asked.
"Medium rare human," he chuckled.
"How is he?" his mother asked.
"Shocking," I replied.
"Thank you for doing this for him," she said reaching out to stroke his hair and wincing as I heard the crackle of static. "My poor little fire cracker," she said making me remember that he is her baby and having lost one she was terrified of losing him.
"Lee?" his father whispered as he came around to take a closer look at his son face, which to my embarrassment was squashed against my braless boobs. "Lee can you hear me?" he asked.
Lee made a slight noise to indicate he could.
"Mae is here," his father whispered. "Can you feel her?"
He made a noise again.
"Are you ok lying with Mae or would you be more comfortable lying alone now?"
His hold tightened like a kid threatening to have it's teddy taken.
"Ok you can keep her," his father whispered and kissed his sons cheek in a gentle fatherly kiss. All three of us got a shock and winced.
"Are you ok?" his father asked me.
I nodded.
"Is he squashing you?"
"No he is all snugly like Suri," I replied and noticed Lee tense at her name. "She is at Uncle's," I whispered to him. "Relax she is safe."
"Here," his mother said putting a straw to Lee's mouth so he could drink some water. He took a few sips before she passed it to me.
I hadn't realised how thirsty I was, "Urgh," I said at the end of a few slugs. "My mouth tastes of metal."
"Yeah you might need those fillings checked," his father replied. "Good thing you didn't have an underwire bra on."
I immediately felt better for the braless state under my vest top.
"Lee would you like something to eat?" his mother asked.
He barely shook his head and snuggled closer.
"You just want to cuddle Mae," she teased and pulled the covers over us tucking it around his neck. I smiled at the mummy 'tuck in' and gave him a reassuring squeeze.
"Lee, I am going to give you some morphine and something to help you sleep it off," his father whispered to him. "Mae is keeping you grounded so feel free to shock her," his said and chuckled as I gasped at the threat and then winced as Lee did just that.
"I am going to get you back for this Dr Grayson," I whimpered.
It subsided as Lee fell asleep.
His father grinned and reached out to check my pulse, getting a shock and a 'Ha!' from me.
"Congratulations," his father said nodding to Lee.
"It was Rema's idea to act as a grounder not mine. It's the most painful thing I've ever been through but it's worth it if he feels better," I replied.
"I was referring to your engagement," he said.
"What?"
"You stated your claim," he added.
"But Stephanie said I was too late," I replied.
"If it had been today, then yes but you were here yesterday straight after the accident," his father said smirking.
I was speechless.
"So we had a helicopter and motor bike ride for nothing," Uncle said as he entered the room.
All I could do was stare.
"You came here yesterday to get the oxygen and demanded to see Lee," his father noted.
I nodded.
"You agreed that when he was well he would come find you and the children so you could be together."
I nodded. I suppose we did but it was not marriage proposal or claiming.
"You kissed him said your 'I love you's."
"Well yeah but..."
"You sneaky human," Uncle teased.
"I didn't know I was claiming I didn't even know I was pregnant back then so how could I," I blurted out.
"Pregnant!" his parents said in unison.
I bit my stupid lip to shut it.
"Are you saying you are pregnant with Lee's child," his father looked furious.
"She doesn't remember, Lee made her forget," Uncle said to save me.
"He wouldn't do that," his mother said equally pissed. "He knows he is to stay away from her and the children."
"Well he didn't, I don't think he can. Look what is in front of your eyes, they are cosmically linked, he is using her as a conduit and out of everyone present she is the only one that can settle him. No wonder there is a baby," he replied. "They are drawn like magnet to each other."
"How do you know?" she asked.
"Rema has a vision. We did a test, under duress I might add as Mae was adamant they have never lay together. She has no recollection of it whatsoever. The test was positive for pregnancy and though only a few weeks it counts in Mae's favour. That is why we are here today and her and the children live with me now under my protection."
"Thank you for the protection of our grandchildren but I don't believe Lee would risk seeing her, let alone a baby. They were warned and the only time they have been together is here at the hospital and Lee was in my eye line at all times. There was no sexual contact," his father replied.
"Mae and Lee conceived a child a few weeks ago. It was a nighttime conception, the child was unwell and there was a storm. She had been brought into the hospital and you had seen her as a patient for a fever but failed to tell him," Rema interjected.
"Let me see," his mother said grabbing my hand in temper.
"Wait she is human..." was the last thing I heard before blacking out.
