"Ugh!" I grunt as I see my brother, Josh, walk into our home with his friends.
"What's wrong?" My mom asks as I watch her dice onions for tonight's dinner.
"It's Friday night, I had a long day, and now Josh brought all of the boys in the grade over!" I complain.
"Well you should go hang out with them! You could always use some more friends!" She tells me.
"I'm offended." I say, walking upstairs to my room. "Call me when dinner's ready!"
After I hear a response, I continue walking to my room. I do need more friends, but not Josh's friends, they're all dickheads. Well, except for one absolutely hot, kind, and funny guy that I've had the biggest crush on, but that's a topic for later.
6 hours later
It's currently 1 AM and I'm in my bedroom, getting ready for bed.
I hop into the welcoming and cozy place I spend most of my time, snuggling up into my soft blanket. My eyes are heavy, as I said earlier, I had a very long day.
My eyes close and I almost fall into a deep sleep, before I'm interrupted by a knock on the door. I groan, thinking it's Josh and his friends coming to bother me with their late night bullshit.
"Who is it?" I shout.
"Um, Vinnie..." A deep voice replies.
My eyes widen. This man is who I mentioned earlier. Since I can't avoid talking about it now, yes I've been in love with for years. We used to be friends when we were little kids, but we grew apart and stopped hanging out, then our friendship anonymously ended.
"Oh, uh, come in?" I say, but it comes out more like a question.
The door opens and I see him awkwardly walk in, as I sit up in my bed.
"So, uh, what do you need?" I ask quietly after a few moments of us awkwardly staring at each other.
"Well Josh's room is full and so are the guest rooms and the couches so I was wondering if I could sleep here with you. If that's okay, but you can say no I-"
"No, no, no, it's fine. But um, I..." I trail off. "Gosh this is embarrassing but I'm not wearing a shirt so I don't... uh..."
"It's your room, don't worry." He reassures me.
I smile and lift up my covers, making space for him. He gets in bed and we both find our comfortable spaces. It's a bit awkward though, we both were awake and it was just silent. I didn't want to make things more awkward so I just kept quiet. But my body was in need of warm arms wrapped around me, badly.
"I, uh, know this is a bit weird to ask, but c-could we cuddle?" I stammer.
I can feel the smile on his face as he mumbles his consent. I turn around, snuggling into his chest, his big, warm arms snaking themselves around my bare upper body.
I love this feeling of comfort. Although we've become strangers over the past couple of years, this occurrence makes everything feel normal again. Just like when we were eight years old, cuddled up in our fort together. I probably wouldn't even begin to imagine us growing apart, but that's just a part of growing up, I guess. Yet here we are, years later, doing the same thing. Almost as if we are meant for each other.
My eyes begin to droop again, but with the comfort of Vinnie I won't wake up again.
"I know we aren't close anymore, but I will make you mine one day." He whispers to me before my eyes shut.
