Soon the colours of this merriment will unfold and will transport us to another world.

Today is the Final round of the debate competition.

Our finalist teams, that is, Team Emerald Hights Academy and Team Stay Gold Academy would be debating against each other.
Over the course of these few days both teams have shown their competence.

Team Emerald Hights Academy would be speaking in favor of today's topic, 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 while Team Stay Gold Academy would be speaking in against of the said topic.

Rules of the debate are

1.There are two teams, each consisting of five speakers.

2. Each team has two or three constructive speeches, and two to three rebuttal speeches. The affirmative gives the first constructive speech, and the rebuttals alternate: negative, affirmative, negative, affirmative. The affirmative has both the first and last speeches of the debate.
.
.
.
.
7. Each speaker is questioned as soon as he concludes his constructive speech. The witness must answer the questions without consulting his colleagues.

8. No new constructive arguments may be introduced in the rebuttal period. The affirmative must, if possible, reply to the major negative arguments before the last rebuttal.

Now without any further due I would like to invite members of Both the teams on stage.

Host : Team speaking in favor of the topic, that is, 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻, may present their point.

𝗞𝘄𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗻𝗯𝗶 : Greetings ladies and gentlemen, Team Emerald Hights Academy would like to present a view in favor of today's topic, 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻
First let's understand what the word 'objectification' means in context of a person, as per standard definition objectification of a person is reducing someone to merely their appearance.

objectification of women is a very serious moral issue that does nothing but hold women at a different standard than men. It stratifies women and places value in the superficial that is completely irrelevant. Having a contest to determine the most beautiful girl on stage, who has the best runway walk, the best bikini body, etc., is demeaning.

𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 : Objectification or non-objectification of women depends upon the spectators as is famously said, “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.” So, in this context, to a much greater extent, perception matters.

On the contrary, if we look at the hidden prospect then we may go against the statement saying Beauty Pageants objectify women with evident facts like:
Beauty pageants are much more than just a beauty contest looking for appearance. They look for physical appearance along with IQ level, presentation, and attitude, communication skills, confidence level and much more and based on all these parameters they judge the best. So, rather than objectification it is practical method of contesting and selecting a women from every prospect.

𝗟𝗲𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘅 : I know that the contestants also have to interview well and have some distinguishable talent and in this way they are supposedly role models, but in the end, the image of the winner is more significant than anything she did or said. Obviously the contest exists because it generates revenue for [whatever network it is on], but this does not erase the fact that women are indeed objectified by the beauty pageants.
Women are put on stage to be paraded around like show dogs and to demonstrate their utmost feminine features, this is objectification of women let's not sugarcoat it.

𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝘆𝘂𝗷𝗶𝗻 : Participants enter beauty pageants willingly, no one forces them to do so, and as far as I know, no one forced anyone to be in the audience. Pageants can offer a lot of benefits to contestants who are savvy enough to take advantage of them.
We cannot avoid the fact that policing women’s decisions is, at the end of it all, Unfeminist. The right to choose their own platform and utilise their strengths in such areas to further their future prospects is their own to make of what they will.

𝗬/𝗹/𝗻 𝘆/𝗻 : As far as I am aware the topic of the debate isn't beauty pageants from the perspective of feminism it's 'do beauty pageants objectify women', and they absolutely do objectify women, which my opponent herself admitted.
Yes participants willingly participate in those pageants, but again this doesn't erase the fact that they objectify women And reinforce the gendered power dynamics in our culture — women are disproportionately judged by appearance.

Not only does these pageants affect their self-esteem and may even cause depression, they also promote objectification and comparison of those young girls and women, who did 𝗻𝗼𝘁 participated in those pageants. They are made to understand that being perfect and pretty is extremely necessary.
They promote cosmetic surgeries and insecurities, they normalize judging and criticizing female bodies and set up irrational standards for women.
Considering Korea's Plastic Surgery crisis, needless to say women are already set to high standards and if they fail to meet those, they are expected to go underneath the knife to get their 'flaws' fixed, and concept of Beauty Pageants does nothing but fuel this more and make the situation worse than what it already is.

A/n Pov ~

The debate had finally ended, and it was time for judges to evaluate the scores, you were glad to be finalist and were quite positive about the results, Both the teams were good at presenting points but debate is not speach, it's not just stating facts it's questioning and disproving your opponents points too, which your team did better than theirs.

You and your team complimented each other and then went to your friends to enjoy the rest of the cultural meet, Schools from all over the state would attend the cultural meet, it was hosted by a different school every year, last year it was at The Stay Gold Academy.

Your friends Liza and Sorn came running to you and started showering you with compliments you have always been each other's hype girls.

But your fun moment was interrupted by someone.

"Nice debate y/l/n." you knew who it was, turning around you smiled and said "yours wasn't bad either 𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻."
he chuckled slightly and replied
"I hope you are ready to loose though, 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲."

"it would be better for you to move on from the past and finally enter the present, for how long are you going to live in last year jeon." you said with fake sympathy, as he rolled his eyes, but smiled a little unconsciously.

The only time you both met would be the cultural meet, being debate participants and that to of different schools, your first interaction was debate, he had approached you the first time after debate and it was a quick back and forth of passive aggressive replies.

Ever since, every year as if it's a tradition he would talk, more like bicker, with you after the debate.

For some reason, that bickering was something he looked forward to every year. He was more excited about talking more like irritating you than he was about debate, which was quite weird to him too.

If he won he would rub that in your face and if you did, you would irritate him about it till the end of the meet, and a part of him secretly hoped for you to win just like the year previous to last one,
so that it would be you approaching him not the other way around, so that you would be initiating conversation with him even if to playfully taunt him just like he does to you.

Maybe one day, you both would talk more than just that short bickering.
