Gracie (15 Years Old)
The next morning Hailey and I met up with Jay to have breakfast at a diner before deciding that we would leave Jay and go shopping,
"You have millions of things you could wear Gracie" Jay shook his head "why do you need to buy more stuff?" He asked confused,
"Don't you want her to look beautiful for her date?" Hailey asked seriously from across the table,
"She's already beautiful she doesn't need new clothes to enhance it, that's what got us in this situation to begin with" he rambled "on the contrary I think you should just go in what you're wearing right now" he said matter of factly. I narrowed my eyes at my brothers statement and looked down at the oversized sweatshirt and black leggings, was he being serious?
"Jay I'm not going dressed like this" I rolled my eyes "now can I please have some money?" I begged with the best puppy dog eyes I could muster causing him to groan dramatically,
"That's low" he commented whilst he got his wallet out "here, nothing to short or revealing or-" his listing was cut off by Hailey,
"Yes we get it Jay" she laughed "don't worry I'll be with her" she comforted as I put the $30 in my wallet,
"I wish I could say that gave me confidence" he replied sarcastically as Hailey began to put her coat on,
"Thank you, love you" I squeaked as I planted a kiss on my brothers cheek before leaving the diner with Hailey.
We spent the morning going to multiple different shops before I found the perfect dress for tonight! It was powder blue with small flowers printed over it, it landed just above my knee and had spaghetti straps that tied up in a bow at the shoulders. We grabbed some sandwiches before driving to the district to drop some off,
"Hey ladies" Trudy greeted us with an uncharacteristic smile which we returned before looking at each other in confusion. Someone was in a good mood.
"Hello old people, we bring food" I announced once we where up the stairs,
"Excuse me young lady, I am not old" Adam said with a frown,
"Oh really, said the guy who just called me young lady" I challenged causing him to huff when everyone sniggered as they grabbed sandwiches out of the bags we had put down on Haileys desk,
"So did you spend all my money?" Jay asked sarcastically,
"Actually I have $10 change" I informed matter of factly,
"Keep it, you can take it with you later" He said as he began to eat his sandwich.
Time skip
I smoothed down my dress as I checked my appearance in the mirror and smiled as I put my white converse on. I put my phone in to my bag along with my wallet and lipgloss before heading out of my bedroom,
"You look beautiful Gracie" Will commented with a fond smile,
"Yeah" Jay agreed "sure you don't wanna rethink the whole leggings and oversized sweatshirt thing?" He asked hopefully causing me to roll my eyes,
"I'm good" I smirked "but please promise not get all protective and weird when he gets here" I begged "I really like him and I don't want you two scaring him off" I lectured,
"Look, we just wanna meet him first" Will said shaking his head in an amused manner "make sure he's a good kid" he finished as Jay nodded,
"That way we all get to know each other before we leave for the movies" Jay said causing my eyes to widen in horror,
"You are NOT coming Jay" I shrieked "I swear if you follow us I'll tell Hailey" I threatened causing his eyes to narrow,
"You wouldn't" he challenged,
"Try me" I replied sassily, there was no way I could go on a date knowing that my brother was watching me!
"He's not gonna follow you Gracie, he's trying to wind you up" Will shook his head in disapproval. Just then there was a knock on the front door,
"Please don't embarrass me" I begged once more as I left my brothers in the kitchen to answer the door. I opened the door to see Luke standing there with his charming smile and a bunch of flowers,
"Hey" I greeted with a smile as I stepped to the side to allow him in. I had already warned him about my brothers and how they wanted to meet him so he wouldn't feel bombarded,
"I got you these" he said as he held out the flowers for me to take,
"They're beautiful" I commented with a smile "thank you." There was a small silence before anyone spoke "Come through" I said before whispering "I'm so sorry about this" as we entered the kitchen,
"Luke, these are my brothers Will and Jay" I introduced as they shook hands whilst I put my flowers in the sink,
"It's nice to meet you" Luke said with confidence "Gracie talks about you a lot" he said causing both of my brothers to smile slightly,
"I wish we could say the same for you but she didn't mention any of this until yesterday" Jay informed as Will gave him a slight warning look out of the corner of his eye. I'm glad I have at least one brother on my side!
"So, why don't you tell us a bit about yourself Luke?" Will suggested in a friendlier manner,
"Well, I was born in New York and moved here to Chicago when I was three because my dad got a job here" he informed,
"What does your dad do?" Will asked curiously,
"Well, now he's the gym teacher at our school but before that he was in the military" he said proudly as I noticed Jays attention draw back in,
"Army?" He asked as Luke nodded,
"Yes sir" Luke confirmed with a said with a sense of pride,
"Well, time's getting on so we best get going, we don't wanna miss the start of the movie" I suggested to Luke in an attempt to get out of this awkward situation,
"Alright we get it" Will said sarcastically,
"It's getting cold out" Jay informed "you should grab a jacket" he suggested, I nodded hesitantly before turning to Luke,
"I'll be one minute" I said with a smile as I walked off to my bedroom.
Jays POV
A silence filled the room once Gracie had left as Luke turned to look at both of us, trying his best not to look uncomfortable,
"So, do you take girls to the movies a lot on a Saturday?" I asked curiously to which he shifted awkwardly,
"No, actually this is the first time I've done it" he informed and I nodded as I crossed my arms across my chest,
"Oh yeah?" I began as Will looked at me knowing what I was doing "well let me give you some advice, you keep your hands to yourself and you stay respectful" I lectured firmly "and before you think about upsetting her in anyway you'd do well to remember that I have the ability to find you no matter where you run and when I do I will cause you some quite serious pain that, lets just say, will make you think twice before doing it again" I threatened "clear?" I asked as I starred the boy straight in the eyes,
"Yes sir" he replied with a nod of understanding, just then Gracie reappeared with a denim jacket thrown on over her dress,
"So have fun, be back by 8:30 and keep your phone on" I said cheerfully as Gracie gave me a suspicious look before saying goodbye. I closed the door and turned to see Will staring at me with raised eyebrows and a smirk "what?" I asked innocently,
"What? You just went all Liam Neeson on that poor kid" he exclaimed, but I could tell that he wasn't particularly bothered by it,
"So? Just making sure he knows the score" I defended "that way he can get a head start, I'm not a barbarian."
Gracies POV
'That was weird' I thought to myself as Luke and I walked down the stairs of my apartment building and out of the main door,
"I'm so sorry about that" I apologised causing him to laugh,
"Don't worry about it, they're just protective is all" he said with a charming smile,
"Don't I know it" I rolled my eyes playfully "I think if it was up to them I'd become a nun" I laughed,
"I'm sure I'll win them over eventually" he said confidently "all though I feel like Jay maybe harder to do so" he laughed and I agreed with him.
The rest of the walk to the movie theatre was filled with mindless chat. We already knew so much about each other from the time we had spent together in theatre class, but it was nice to speak outside of school. We had everything in common which was amazing! We both love musical theatre and performing as well as a shared hatred for maths.
We entered the movie theatre and went straight to the stand,
"Two tickets for Macbeth please" Luke asked politely. I know what you're thinking. Why would two fifteen year olds want to go and see a Shakespeare play? I know it may seem strange but we both love his plays. It was actually how we first bonded. The old cliche of he played Romeo and I played Juliet. But what can I say? I guess we're just not normal. The extremely bored looking girl printed out the tickets,
"Anything else?" She asked in a monotone voice,
"Do you want some popcorn?" He asked and I smiled as I shrugged my shoulders,
"Sure" I replied and he nodded,
"Two salted popcorns please" he added as the girl disappeared before returning a few moments later with two boxes of popcorn, spilling most of it on the way,
"Thats $24.98" she said bluntly as I opened my purse to grab my wallet,
"Don't worry about that" Luke said as he pulled his wallet out "It's on me" he said causing me to smile gently,
"You don't hav-" he cut me off with another one of his charming smiles,
"I want to" he said adamantly as he payed the impatient girl before grabbing both tickets and one of the popcorn boxes whilst I picked up the second,
"You really didn't have to do that" I said honestly as we walked away from the kiosk,
"I know but I wanted to" He repeated causing my smile to widen. He's just to cute!
"Thank you" I said honestly as we began to walk towards the area with all of the screens. I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw a familiar face leaning agains the wall casually,
"Adam?" I said trying to hide my annoyance. He looked up from his phone and stared at Luke for a second longer before breaking out in a huge smile,
"Gracie" he greeted "fancy seeing you here" he said sarcastically "Hey Kev" he said as his eyes flicked up to behind me "look who it is" he said to Kevin who was walking over with two tickets and a bucket of popcorn and nachos. You've got to be kidding me,
"Hey Gracie" Kevin greeted with the same amount of sarcasm as Adam "aren't you gonna introduce us?" He said as he gestured to an awkward looking Luke who was stood beside me.
"Guys this is Luke, Luke this is Kevin Atwater and Adam Ruzek" I introduced as they shook hands "they work with Jay on the task force" I informed as a flash of realisation flashed across Lukes face,
"Nice to meet you" Luke said with a smile. Wow. Nothing fazes this boy.
"You too" Adam replied with a mischievous smile,
"Right, well it was nice seeing you two but we really need to find our movie screen" I said as we both turned to leave,
"We'll see you in there" Kevin said as I turned around with slightly pleading eyes,
"You two are watching Macbeth?" I asked, knowing that neither of them would choose to watch it willingly,
"We sure are" Adam confirmed "my man here loves some Shakespeare" he said as he patted Kevin on the chest in a over dramatic manner,
"Sure do" He confirmed. Liar. I pursed my lips and raised my eyebrows,
"Great" I said sarcastically "see you in there" I said as both Luke and I walked away.
"I am so sorry about this" I apologised for the 10000th time,
"Hey stop apologising" he said as he put a comforting hand on my shoulder causing butterflies to fly through my stomach "It will be memorable if anything" he smirked as a guy checked our tickets and we walked in to the screen to find our seats. Once we sat down I pulled my phone out and texted Adam,
Me: Did my brother put you up to this?
Adam: I don't know what you're talking about.
Me: You know, for a detective you're not very good at the whole undercover thing.
Adam: Wow, that stings Gracie...
Me: Please just promise to at least keep your distance.
Adam: Don't worry, you won't even know we're there.
I rolled my eyes before turning my phone on silent and slipping it in to my bag.
Once the movie began I noticed Adam and Kevin sneak in and sit at the back. They really need to improve their undercover work. Half way through our hands intertwined causing sparks to fly through my stomach. He's perfect.
Once the movie had ended Luke helped me put my jacket back on and I notice that Adam and Kevin had disappeared. Huh, maybe they are better at this undercover thing than I gave them credit for. We walked home hand in hand and talked all the way to my apartment door,
"I had a really nice time tonight Gracie" He said once we had stopped outside of the front door,
"Yeah" I agreed as I blushed slightly "me to" I admitted causing his smile to widen,
"Maybe we could do it again sometime? My mom works at The Chicago Theatre and she's been given some free tickets to their production of Something Rotten if you wanna come?" He offered and my smile widened,
"I'd love to" I smiled "I mean I'll have to ask first obviously" I rolled my eyes causing him to laugh,
"Ok, text me when you find out" he said and I nodded. There was a moment of silence before I became very aware of the fact that we where still holding hands. I felt my heart rate quicken as the distance between our lips became smaller until they eventually met. It was exactly as the describe in the movies. Fireworks could have been going off and I wouldn't have been aware. Our lips separated as we both smiled at each other, staying in the sweet silence of the kiss we had just shared,
"I'll see you on Monday" he said as I grabbed my key out of my purse and opening the front door,
"Bye" I said as I watched him walk away from the apartment and disappear down the stairs.
"Gracie?" Will shouted from the sofa,
"Yeah" I confirmed as I walked in to the kitchen/living room and flopped down on to the sofa with a huge smile plastered across my face,
"I'm guessing by the smile that you had a nice time" he commented as Jay entered the room and joined us on the sofa,
"I did" I confirmed with a slight blush "you'll never guess who we ran in to at the movie theatre" I commented sarcastically to Jay who did his best to look confused,
"Who?" He asked innocently causing me to rain my eyebrows,
"Don't act all innocent" I accused playfully "I know you sent Ruzek and Atwater to spy on me" I said shaking my head,
"I don't know what you're talking about" he smirked as I shook my head,
"Sure you don't" I said as I got up and walked off to my bedroom to call Hailey. I couldn't wait to tell her all about the nights events!
