~~~~~~~~~Your POV~~~~~~~~~
"Finally, after all these long years of waiting, you're actually here!!!" Stan opened his arms wide for a hug as he walked over to the mystery man. "Brother!!!"
Instead, he was punched in the face by said man, forcing him to back away. "Ow!!! What the heck was that for?!?"
"This was an insanely risky move, restarting the portal!!! Didn't you read my warnings?!?"
"Warnings smarnings!!! How's about a thanks for saving you from what appears to be-, I don't know, some kind of sci-fi sideburn dimension?!?"
"Thank you?!? You really think I'm gonna thank you after what you did thirty years ago?!?"
"What I did?!?" Why you ungrateful-!!!" Stan launched a punch which the man avoided, holding his arms to stop his from fighting. "Don't except me to go easy on you just because you're family!!!"
Mabel was the first to step in, raising a hand. "Hey, hi, Mabel here. Quick question: what the heck is going on here?!?"
The new man looked over to us, eyes widening a bit before pulling away. "Stan, you didn't tell me there were children down here. And some sort of large hairless gopher?"
Soos chuckled. "I get that a lot!"
With a small groan, Stan stood back up, pointing at the twins. "Those two are your family, Poindexter. Shermy's grandkids."
"I.. I have a niece and nephew..?" A small smile grew on his face as he walked over to Mabel, kneeling down to her eye level as he offered a handshake. "Greetings! Do kids still say greetings? I haven't been in this dimension for a really long time."
"Whoa, six-fingered hand shake?!? It's a full fingered friendlier than normal!!"
He laughed as she shook his hand. "I like this kid! She's weird!"
On the other hand, Dipper was having a mental breakdown. "I-... I can't believe it...!!! You're the author of the journals!!"
The man pulled out one of his journals from his jacket. "You've read my journals?"
"I-I haven't just read them, I've lived them!!!" He began to pace around in circles. "I've been waiting for so long to meet you, I-I don't know what to say, I have so many questions, I-!!"
Dipper then hunched over. "Ohhhh, I think I'm gonna through up...!!!"
I awkwardly patted his back. "Please don't, we're all stuck in this room."
"No no, false alarm! Just need to write it out!"
The man then shook his head. "Listen, they'll be time for introductions later. But first, tell me, Stan, are there any security breaches? Does anyone else know about this portal?"
"No, just us. Also maybe he entire US government."
"The WHAT?!?" In a panic, he turned to the tv monitor in the other room, seeing all the government people looking around the place.
He then let out a sigh, trying to calm himself down. "Okay, it's alright, got a while before they find this room. We just need to lay low and think of a plan!"
Leo leaned back against the wall, crossing his arms. "Guess we're gonna be stuck here for a while."
"Ooh, I know how we can past the time!! Who wants to tell us their entire mysterious backstory?!" Mabel asked as she smiled brightly.
The man was already writing something in journal 1. "Yes, I have some questions about all this myself, Stanley."
My eyes widened a bit at the name. "Wait.. Stanley?"
"But your name is Stanford!" Mabel corrected as she looked up at her uncle in confusion.
The stranger only seemed more furious than before. "Wait, you took my name?!? What have you been doing all these years, you knucklehead?!?"
"Yeah, Grunkle Stan, no more lies!!" Dipper glared up at him. "You owe us some answers!! What's the deal with this portal?! Why did you keep this a secret?!"
"And what happened between you and your brother?!?" Mabel added to the list of questions.
Soos was also kinda mad, but with him it's always hard to tell. "I'm hoping all this aligns with my fanfics, Stan, if not I will be very disappointed!!"
"Okay, okay okay! I know I have a lot of explaining to do." He let out a heavy sigh, then looked up at the ceiling.
"It all started a lifetime ago, 1960 something, Glass Shard Beach, New Jersey. I lived with my ma and pa in the Lead Paint District in the family pawn shop. Dad was a strict man, tough as a cinderblock and not easily impressed. Mom was a pathological liar which served her well as a phone physic. And then there was my nerdy twin brother Stanford. As if his abnormal high IQ wasn't enough, he also had a rare birth defect: six fingers in each hand which might have explained his obsession with sci-fi mystery weirdness. As for me, I had what mom liked to call personality. But as different as we were, we were the perfect team. And everyday we'd wander the beach looking for adventure. Those were the good times, those bullies may have been right about us not making many friends, but when push comes to shove you only really need one. Ford's brain seemed to get more impressive every year. So did our pet project. Sure I got more than my fair share of trouble, but when your brother's the smartest kid in school you've always got a leg up on the competition. The future was looking bright, for both of us. 'Till one day..."
~~~~~~Flashback - Third Person POV~~~~~~

"Pines twins to the principal's office. Pines twins to the principal's office."

Young Stanley looked up at the voice that spoke through the intercom. "Ah, great. What is it this time?"

They both went over to the office, about to go inside, only for the secretary to extend a hand out. "Not you, him."

Stan glanced over to his brother, who the secretary had pointed at before sitting on a nearby chair. "Meh."

Confused about the situation, Ford walked into the room, sitting in between his parents with the principal at the other side of the desk. "Now, Mr. Pines, I'd like to speak with you very frankly, if I may."

"Very frankly is the only way I speak."

"You have two sons. One of them in incredibly gifted, the other one is standing outside this room and he's name's Stanley."

Their mother raised an eyebrow, feeling a little worried. "What are you saying..?"

"I'm saying your son Stanford is a genius!!! All his teachers are going bananas over his science fair experiment!! You ever head of West Coast Tech?! Best college in the country!!" With a smile, he handed Ford a pamphlet. "Their graduates turn science fiction into science fact! The admissions team is visiting tomorrow to check out Stanford's experiment! Your son may be a future millionaire, Mr. Pines!"

To everyone's surprise, the father gave a smile. "I'm impressed!"

"But what about our little free spirit Stanley?" The mother asked.

The principal let out a scoff. "That clown? At this rate he'll be lucky to graduate high school! Look, there's a saltwater taffy store on the dock and somebody's gotta get paid to scrape the barnacles off of it. Stanford's going places! But hey, look on the bright side, at least you'll have one son here in New Jersey forever!"

That was all overheard by Stanley, who had an ear pressed against the wall.

Later that same day, the two of them sat on the swing set in front of the beach, their favorite spot to calm down and share thoughts. And that day, they both had a lot to share.

Stan let out a laugh. "Joke's on them if they think you want to go to some stuffy college on the other side of the country. Once we get the Stan'o War complete it's gonna be beaches, babes, and international treasure hunting for us!"

"Look, Stan, I can't pass up a chance like this! This school has cutting edge programs and multi-dimensional paradigm theory!"

"Beep boop, I am a nerd robot. That's you, that's what you sound like."

Ford chuckled a bit. "Oh well, if the college board isn't impressed with my experiment tomorrow then okay, I'll do the treasure hunting thing."

"And if they are?"

"Well, then I guess you better come visit me on the other side of the country!" Gently punching his brother's arm in a playful manner, Ford stood up with a smile and walked away, leaving Stan alone with his growing anger.

Without Ford I was half of a dynamic duo. I couldn't make it out of there without him. And now thanks to that dumb college I was gonna loose my brother forever!

Later in the night, his anger had led Stan to his brother's project, a glare on his face as he bawled his hands into fists.

"This is all your fault, you dumb machine!!" His vision covered in rage, he punched the table the project rested on, causing a piece of the machine to yank off, his face growing pale. "Oh no, oh no no, what did I do?!?"

He obviously didn't know how to fix it, so he simply placed the broken piece back. "There, alright, good as new! ... probably!" Then placed the blanket over it and tiptoed away.

The next morning, Ford stood beside his project as he fixed his bow tie, smiling as he saw the judges walking over.

"Alright, kid. Show us what you got."

"Okay! Well, what would you say if I told you the future of technology was beneath this sheet?!?" He took off the blanket, only to receive a deadly glare from all three judges.

"I'd say we wasted a car trip."

"What?!?" He turned to his machine, expressing morphing from excitement to confusion and disappointment. "But it was stable yesterday!! A-a fuse must've blown or something!!"

"Kid, a perpetual motion machine has one job: to not stop. I don't think your West Coast Tech material."

They all walked away, even as Ford pleaded. "No, wait, don't go!!! I worked so hard!!!" His eyes widened a little as he stepped on a bag of Stan's favor snacks, crumbling it in anger as the realization dawned upon him.

"One paddle paddle paddle, two paddle paddle." Stan spoke to himself as he lied upside down on his living room couch. "Man, that Jackie-O, what a fox!"

Ford then entered their home, a sharp glare on his face, but Stan only smiled. "Hey, what's the word, Sixer?"

"Can you explain what this was doing next to my broken project?!?" He asked as he pulled out the empty snack bag.

Stan glanced at it, staying silent for a second. "Okay, I might have accidentally been horsing around-"

"This was no accident, Stan!! You did this!! You did this because you couldn't handle me going to college on my own!!"

"Look, it was a mistake!! Although if you think about it, maybe there's a silver lining! Huh~? Treasure hunting~?!"

"Are you kidding me?!? Why would I want to do anything with the person who sabotaged my entire future?!?" He pushed Stan back, who landed on the couch, only for their dad to pick him up by his shirt.

"You did what, you knucklehead?!?"

"Stanley, what's going on in here?" Their mother asked as she walked in with their baby.

Stan was already starting to panic. "Wait no- I can explain-!! It was a mistake-!!"

Without listening to his reason, his dad walked to the door, throwing him out. "You ignoramus!! Your brother was gonna be our ticket out of this dump!! All you ever do is lie and cheat and ride on your brother's coattails!! Well, this time you cost our family potential millions!! And until you make us a fortune, you're not welcome in this household!!!"

"What?!?" He grabbed the bag his dad threw over in instinct, then looked up at Ford who stared down at him from the bedroom window. "Stanford, tell him he's being crazy!!"

Ford, on the other hand, had been crushed that day. He glanced down at the pamphlet, then closed the blinds.

"Stanford..? Don't leave me hanging..! High six..?"

Their father slammed the door shut, and a glare then grew on Stan's face. "Fine, I can make it on my own!! I don't need you!! I don't need anyone!! I'll make millions and you'll rue the day the day you turn your back on me!!"

~~~~~~End Of Flashback - Your POV~~~~~~
"Thanks to one dumb mistake, I had no brother, no home, no nothing." Stan finally turned to us. "But I had a plan to fix everything."
Mabel stood in between the two brothers. "Oh, this story's so sad! I know what you two little broken teacups need!! To hug it out!!"
...
"Hug it out!!"
...
"Hug train's coming in the station!! Hug-apalooza!! 2000!!"
"Kid, will you knock that off?! I'm trying to tell my life story here!!" Stan let out a sigh.
"I had decided I wasn't gonna show my face at home 'till I proved I could make something of myself. Unfortunately, the treasure hunting business was slow going. Apparently gold is some kind of rare metal. Luckily I struck another kind of gold! In sales! I had made my mark alright! Unfortunately so did the Shammies. Apparently the cheap dye I used to color them only made stains worse. Customers weren't crazy about that. Luckily they were chasing me with Stan co-brand pitchforks. I was officially band from New Jersey. But with a quick name change, Steve Pinington was ready to take on Pennsylvania! It didn't work. I traveled the whole country, sometimes outside of it, always one step ahead of the law looking for something that would be my big break."
"That explains all the fake IDs." Leo pointed out.
Dipper then turned to Ford. "But wait, what about you? Did you end up going to your dream school?"
"Not exactly. I had to go to Backupsmore University. In a place like that I had to work twice as hard, luckily that's what I do best. I went from undergrad to PhD three years ahead of schedule, wrote a thesis that was nationally ranked, and was awarded an enormous grant for my own scientific research! But what to study..? My whole life I've been teased for my six fingers, but that got me thinking about anomalies; things that were odd, unusual, statistically improbable! And according to my investigations, there was one place with a higher concentration of these things than anywhere else, a small lumber town in roadkill county Oregon, Gravity Falls."
"Meanwhile, your old Grunkle Stan was doing great! I'd come up with a sophisticated new business strategy. I was in great shape, living on my own and the best part was I didn't need help from nobody."
"I was heading out on my own as well. I set to work using my grant money to investigate the strange properties of this town. But what would I found here? I began to investigate at once! I knew I'd have to record my findings. I began to keep a journal-"
"EEEEEEEK, the journals!!!"
We all stared at Dipper because of his sudden shriek, and I was trying my absolute best to not laugh.
"Sorry, sorry." He cleared his throat. "Just got excited there, about the journals. Keep- keep talking."
"... I began to keep a journal-"
"EEEEEEEK!!!"
I had to cover my mouth in order not to laugh, hearing Ford clear his throat. "Just gonna ignore that. There were anomalies everywhere! And the more I looked, the more I saw..! It was finally a place where I felt at home.. But something nagged at me; where did it all come from? I seemed to me the answer must lie outside of our world. A dimension of weirdness leaking into ours. I realized the only way to understand Gravity Falls would be to build a gateway, a portal to the source of its weirdness. But I couldn't make it alone. I decided to call up my old college buddy, Fiddleford McGucket, a young but brilliant mechanic who was wasting his talent trying to make personal computers in some garage in Palo Alto. Many long nights were spent perfecting the machine. It would be the crowning achievement of my studies, an answer to the source of this town's anomalies. The time had come to test it. But something went wrong, Fiddleford had gotten tangled with the dummy and entered the portal. Luckily I was able to pull him back. He started speaking gibberish, and then started claiming that this machine was dangerous. Fiddleford, not wanting to continue the project, left. I was in over my head, and feared I was loosing my sanity! I needed help, someone I could trust."
~~~~~~Flashback - Third Person POV~~~~~~

After more than a decade of being separated, Stan finally made it to Ford's home in the woods, letting out a heavy sigh. "You haven't seen your brother in over ten years.. It's okay, he's family, he won't bite."

He knocked on the door, to which Ford bursted it open as he pointed a crossbow at him. "Who is it?!? Have you come to steal my eyes?!?"

".... Well I can always count on you for a warm welcome."

At the sight of him, Ford lowered the crossbow. "Stanley, did anyone follow you? Anyone at all?"

"Hello to you too, pal."

He pulled his brother inside, locking the door before shining a small light into his eyes.

"Ah!! Hey!" Stan pushed him away. "What is this?!"

"Sorry, I just had to make sure you weren't-... uh, it's nothing. Come in, come in." He walked through the shack, Stan following behind.

"Look, you gonna explain what's going on here? You're acting like mom after a 10th cup of coffee."

Partially ignoring him, Ford searched through a few things. "Listen, there isn't much time, I've made huge mistakes and I don't know who I can trust anymore!"

"Hey, easy there, let's talk this through, okay?"

"I have something to show you, something you won't believe."

"Look, I've been around the world, ok? Whatever it is, I'll understand."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"... There is nothing about this I understand." Stan replied as he stared at the giant portal that was hidden in the basement.
Ford stepped forward. "It's a trans-universal gateway, a punch hole through a weak spot in our dimension. I created it to unlock the mysteries of the universe, but it could just as easily be harnessed for terrible destruction."
He then pulled out Journal #1. "That's why I shut it down and hid my journals which explain how to operate it. There's only one journal left, and you are the only person I can trust to take it." He handed it over to Stan. "I have something to ask of you. Remember our plans to sail around the world on a boat?"
A smile grew on Stan's face at the memory, hope of it becoming true growing inside him.
Only to be destroyed when Ford explained the rest. "Take this book, get on a boat, and sail as far away as you can! To the edge of the Earth! Bury it where no one can find it!"
Staring at his twin in disbelief, a glare grew on Stan's face. "That's it?!? You finally want to see me after ten years and it's to tell me to get as far away as possible?!?"
"Stanley, you don't understand what I'm up against!! What I've been through!!!"
"No, you don't understand what I've been through!!! I've been to prison in three different countries!!! I once had to chew out of the trunk of a car!!! You think you've got problems?!? I've got a mullet, Stanford!!! Meanwhile, where have you been?!? Living it up in your fancy house in the woods, selfishly hoarding your college money because you only care about yourself!!!"
"I'm selfish? I'm selfish, Stanley?! How can you say that after costing me my dream school?!? I'm giving you a chance to do the first worthwhile thing in your life and you won't even listen!!!"
"Well listen to this!!! You want me to get rid of this book?!? Fine, I'll get rid of it right now!!!" Stan pulled out a lighter, the flames close to the edge of the journal.
"NO!!!" Eyes wide in horror, Ford grabbed the journal, trying to pull it away. "You don't understand!!!"
"You said you wanted me to have it so I'll do what I want with it!!!"
"My research!!!" When Stan yanked away, Ford tackled him to the ground, both fighting each other to get the journal for themselves.
"Stanley, give it back!!!"
"You want it back you're gonna have to try harder than that!!!" He pushed Ford back, trying to pull the journal away. "You left me behind, you jerk!!! It was supposed to be us forever, you ruined my life!!!"
"You ruined your own life!!!"
With a harsh kick, Stan was pushed back, crashing into one of the desks where a strange burning symbol was drawn, burning his shoulder as he let out a yell of pain.
"Stanley!!! Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!!! Are you o- OW!!!" He yelled as he was punched by Stan, dropping the journal.
"Some brother you turned out to be. You care more about your dumb mysteries than your family? Well then you can have'm!!!" Stan pushed the journal unto Ford, causing him to stumble back as the portal was turned on, starting to levitate as the gravity around it changed. "Whoa, whoa, hey, what's going on?!"
"Whoa!! Ah, AH!!!"
"Hey, hey, Stanford!!!"
"Stanley, Stanley, help me!!!"
"Oh no, what do I do?!?"
"Stanley, Stanley, do something!!! Stanley!!!" Throwing the journal he was holding, Ford had disappeared into the other side of the unknown, the portal turning off with a big explosion.
A little later, Stan finally woke up, looking up at the broken portal. "Stanford..?"
Ford's glasses lied on the floor, his face growing pale as he remembered what happened, running over and punching the portal. "Stanford, come back!!! I-I didn't mean it!!!" He started pulling the lever in the center of the room. "I just got'm back, I can't loose him again!!!"
I'd lost him.
I didn't know if he was dead or alive in some distant galaxy, but I knew his journal must have the answer to getting him back.
Somehow.
I didn't get much sleep that night, or the night after that. I tried for weeks to turn that dumb machine back on, but without the other two journals, it was hopeless. Finally I ran out of food, I had no choice but to go into town.
Stan placed the loaf of bread on the counter, the lady worker of the store speaking. "Just the bread then, there, stranger? That'll be 99 cents."
He checked his pockets, growing nervous when he realized he didn't even have that amount.
"Hey, that's no stranger!" A young Lazy Susan walked over with a smile. "That must be the mysterious science guy that lives in the woods!"
People started gathering around, Stan raising his hands in surrender. "N-no, no, you got the wrong guy.."
"I've heard strange stories about that old shack."
"Yeah, mysterious lights and spooky experiments!"
"Gosh, I'd pay anything to see what kind of shenanigans you get up in there!"
"Oh, me too!! Do you ever give tours?"
"No, really, I-" All the comments people made lit up an idea in him, looking at the junk that was in his pockets before letting out a smile, forcing on a smile. "Yes, I do give tours! Ten-, no no, fifteen bucks a person!"
Everyone stared at him for a while, to which his smile only grew more awkward. To his surprise though, everyone cheered and offered their money, his smile now genuine.
Susan walked over to him. "Sir, what did you say your name was, you man of mystery?"
"Oh, Stan-" He paused, another idea coming to mind. "... Ford. Stanford Pines."
~~~~~~End Of Flashback - Your POV~~~~~~

"So I came up with a plan. I couldn't leave my brother's house until I figured out how to save him, but O needed to pay his mortgage somehow. For once in my life, people were actually buying what I was selling! And so the Murder Hut was born, later renamed the Mystery Shack. Finally I found something I was good at. For once being a liar and a cheat paid off. The old me was dead, and I faked a car crash to prove it. By day I was Stanford Pines, Mr. Mystery! But by night I was down in the basement trying to bring the real Stanford back. I couldn't risk anyone learning the truth and sabotaging my mission, so I lied to everyone. The town, my family, your parents, even you kids.."

Dipper glanced at his uncle with regret in his eyes. "So all this time you were only trying to save your brother.. Grunkle Stan, I'm so sorry I didn't believe you.."

Stan simply smiled. "That's okay, kid. I probably wouldn't have believed me either."

"I heard talking, it was coming from downstairs!!!" We all tensed up when the voice from upstairs spoke, everyone starting to panic.

"We're too late, the agents are coming for us!!"

"What do we do?!?"

"Oh man!! I was so spellbound by your dramatic tale I forgot all about those dudes!!"

"Wait, forget!" I lit up as my mind went back to that one adventure we had not too long ago, taking out the memory ray from Dipper's back pack. "We can use this to defeat the agents!"

"That's right, I forgot we kept it!" Dipper smiled, agreeing to the plan before I handed it to Ford.

"Of course..!" Ford smiled at us. "I don't know how you got a hold of one if these but this is perfect! If I can just amplify the signal to a radio headset frequency.."

He plugged in some wires into the gun before looking through some glass. "There! Now everyone plug your ears!! Get down, now!!"

We did as told, the ground shaking a little as the energy waves went all around the shack. Eventually we stood back up, walking up from the basement as seeing Ford go outside to the government people.

Mr. Power looked around in confusion. "What? Where am I? Why am I standing in some sort of goofy fun knick knack house?"

"Stand down, gentlemen!" Ford began as he looked down at some papers which were just Mabel's drawings. "I've been sent with the latest intel from Washington. According to this very real report, the power surges of Gravity Falls were actually due to radiation from an unreported meteor shower, a total embarrassment for your whole department. Luckily I'm here to take this mess off your hands, but I'll need all of your... floppy disks and uh... 8tracks, right?"

"Uh, everything about this case is is contained on this drive."

Trigger handed Ford the drive, then he looked around at the crowd. "... Well, what are you waiting for, a kiss on the cheek?! Get out of here before I have your butts court-martialed!!"

"Uh- yes, sir. Apologies, sir." He whistled to grab everyone's attention. "Falls alarm, everyone!"

All the guards then left the area, Ford giving Gompers the flash drive so he could eat it, then we all went outside.

Mabel smiled brightly. "Great uncle Stanford, that was amazing!!"

"Let's not go crazy, it was serviceable." Stan corrected as he rolled his eyes.

Ford then let out a small chuckle. "Thank you, kids, but please call be Ford."

"Sure, thanks, great uncle Ford! So uh, would you mind if I ask you a couple billion questions about Gravity Falls?!"

"Um, well, I-"

"Alright, kids, it's been a long day and me and my brother have a lot to talk about." Stan quickly intervened. "Why don't you hit the hay, huh?"

"But it's the author!! I've been waiting so long to ask questions about-!!"

I gently placed a hand on his shoulder. "C'mon, PT, it's been thirty years since he was last on Earth, give him a break."

Letting out a sigh, Dipper let me lead him back inside the shack. "Fine.."

About ten minutes later, the four of us were up in the attack, Dipper and Mabel in their sleepwear. Currently, she had her ear pressed against the door, trying to eavesdrop on her uncles' conversion. "Did you hear what they said? I think Grunkle Ford said they're gonna buy us puppies made of ice cream!"

"I think that's just wishful thinking, M." Leo replied as he sat on one of the ceiling railings.

Dipper sat on the edge of his bed, next to me with a sigh. "I don't know if this is good or bad. I wanted to meet the author, but.."

Mabel sat on her own bed. "Yeah, I liked the way things were here before. Just us and Stan and the occasional goblin monster."

"I'm sure they'll work things out." I replied, though it was something that I barely believed, a few unwanted memories coming back to me. "As long as you two promise to never get that stupid."

Dipper tilted his head in question. "What do you mean?"

"She has a point." Mabel lied down. "I mean, they used to be best friends, but then they got all stupid."

"I made that mistake before, you two better make sure you stay the way you are now, okay?"

They both nodded at my question, which made me smile. Then I stood up as I ruffled my boyfriend's head. "Well, guess it's time to go home."

At that, Leo hopped down, placing a kiss on Mabel's head. "See you tomorrow."

"See ya!"
