CHAPTER ELEVEN
the basilisk
act two, year two

AFTER THAT WEIRD EXPERIENCE, HARRY AND Y/N DECIDED TO TALK WITH RON. They were now going to Hagrid's, after all he was the one that Tom said being the responsible for the Chamber of Secrets being opened.
"Are you really sure about this?" Ron asked
"Yes, Ron."
Harry knocked on Hagrid's door. Seconds later they were face to face with the man.
"Hello!"
Before he could say anything else, they walked in.
"Hagrid, we know about the Chamber of Secrets and we know you were the one who opened it." Harry said
As Hagrid was ready to answer, someone knocked on his door yet again.
"Hide!" He whispered-yelled
Good thing Harry had brought his cloak with him. They were able to hide under it.
They saw Professor Dumbledore and Cornellius Fudge walking inside Hagrid's house.
"Who is that?" Harry asked
"Cornellius Fudge. He is the minister." Y/n answered
The girl had heard a lot about this man from her grandmother. Apparently, there's some bad blood going on between the two.
"Bad business Hagrid, really bad business." Cornellius complained "Attacks on three muggle-borns."
"I would never.....Professor tell him!" Hagrid said in desperation
Professor Dumbledore nodded.
"I believe in Hagrid." Dumbledore said
"Albus, look, Hagrid's record is against him." Fudge said "I have to take him."
"Take me?! Take me where?" Hagrid asked "No Azkaban."
"I'm afraid we have no choice, Hagrid."
In that moment the door opened. There stood Draco's father.
"Already here Fudge. Good." He said
"What are you doing here? Get out of my house!"
Lucius, being arrogant like always, looked around the house.
"House? You call this a house?" He asked
In all honesty, Y/n could never truly understand why people who have more money like to shame the others who don't have any. It's just sad.
"Now, I simply called up the school and was told that the headmaster was here." Lucius explained
"And what exactly do you want?" Professor Dumbledore asked
"The other governors and I decided that is time to you to step aside."
Y/n stopped herself from gasping out loud. How could them do this?
They watched as Lucius gave Dumbledore a paper.
"This is a order of suspension."
"You can't take Professor Dumbledore away!" Hagrid argued
Dumbledore stood calm, very calm.
"Calm yourself Hagrid, if the governors desire my removal, I will of course step aside." He said "However, you will find that help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it."
Well, the crepiest part is that Professor Dumbledore seemed to have spoke that last part to them, which is very weird since they couldn't be seen.
"Shall we?"
They went to the door but not before Hagrid said one last thing.
"If anybody was looking for some stuff, then all they have to do would be to follow the spiders.......yep that's it."
With that, the door was closed leaving the three friends alone.
"Spiders?" Y/n whispered
She hated spiders. So funny story, one day, in the middle of the night, Y/n heard a scream. She got up and went running to the place where the sound came from. The moment she walked into her mother's office, she was met with the image of Rose Wintergreen on top of her chair screaming.
Not understanding what was going on, the girl tried to get close to her mother but the elder stopped her. When her mother pointed to the source of the problem, the heir of the Wintergreen family couldn't stop herself from screaming as well.
It was a spider. A big spider against the wall.
Let's just say that neither of them spoke of that day ever again.
That's how Y/n found out that she was terrified of it.
"Look!" Harry pointed out
They looked at the window and watched as the spiders walked back and forth.
"I think I'm going to get sick." Y/n said getting away from them
"Let's follow them." Harry said
The girl quickly looked at him. The boy even doubted if she didn't broke her neck while doing so.
"Follow them?! Have you gone crazy already?" She then looked at Ron "We need to help this poor soul to find peace."
Harry chuckled before rolling his eyes.
Ron just shrugged at her before following Harry. He wasn't too keen of the idea.
The spiders lead them to the forest.
"We can't go there." Ron said while pointing to the forbidden forest
"C'mon, it can't be that bad."
Y/n's eyes became wide.
"Oh, no, it can be much worse. C'mon, Harry this is crazy."
Seeing that the boy continued to walk, the girl let out a sigh.
"Okay, fine, but if I die, I want you to write me a great eulogy."
Both boys chuckled as they continued to walk into the forest.
"Okay, Y/n, if you die before me, I will write you a great eulogy." Harry said
"You better or I will come to haunt you." She then turned to Ron "What about you, Ron?"
"What about me?"
"Well, Harry is going to write an eulogy. What will you do?"
The red-haired boy shook his head.
"Y/n, it will not happen."
"But what if it does?"
He stopped walking making the others stop as well. The boy sighed.
"If it happens, which will not," He quickly said "I.....I....."
He couldn't think of anything.
"I will write you a letter!"
"Ron.....How am I suppose to read the letter if I'll be dead?"
"It doesn't matter if you can read it or not, it matters that every secret that we shared, every adventure and every moment will be wrote in that letter so only us can know about it."
Her eyes softened
"Oh, Ron, I think that's the most beautiful thing you have ever told me." She turned to them "Well, if one of you dies, I will sing."
"Do you know how to sing?"
Y/n rolled her eyes
"You missing the point! What counts it's the intention. Now, let's go!"
They start to walk again like that weird conversation hadn't happen.
They came across what seemed to be a cavern. Y/n took a step back.
"Well, beautiful friends of mine, it was a great honor to know you."
Ignoring her comment, the boys entered the cavern. Without any other choice, she followed them.
The group of friends followed the spiders until a giant one appeared in front of them.
Y/n didn't hesitated before hiding behind Harry, same with Ron who decided that the best spot to hide was behind her.
"Who are you?" The spider asked
Spiders can speak? Y/n thought. Whatever, this is Hogwarts, everything is possible in this school.
"We are Hagrid's friends." Harry said
"Are you really speaking with a spider?" Y/n whispered on the boy's ear
The animal got close to them making Ron and Y/n take a step back.
"Hagrid has never sent a man into our home before." It said
"He is in trouble. People were attacked in the school, they think it's Hagrid who caused them." Harry explained "They think he opened the Chamber of Secrets.....again."
Y/n looked around them only to witness as more spiders start coming close.
"Harry....." She trailed off
"Shhh.....not now Y/n."
"That's a lie! Hagrid never opened the Chamber of Secrets." The spider defended her long time friend
With the image of the spiders coming close, Y/n put her hand against her stomach.
"I'm going to definitely get sick....." she whispered and Ron nodded
"Then who did?" Harry asked
"I can't tell you that."
"So you are not the monster?" Potter asked
"No, the monster was born in the castle." It explained "I came with Hagrid from a distant land."
"But then what is the monster?"
"Something that even us spiders fear."
Yet again Y/n looked around only to see that they were surrounded by spiders.
"Harry...." Ron called seeing the same thing that she saw
"I'm not finished." He said
"Harry......" It was Y/n's time to call him now
"Y/n not now......."
"HARRY!" She screamed at him
The moment that the chosen one looked up, he wished he had listened to his friends sooner.
"Thanks-s for your-r help, but-t we got-t to go." Harry said
They start walking back to the exit.
"You know, me and my children never attacked Hagrid because he saved us, but you don't mean anything to us."
The spiders start getting close.
"I want my mum...." Y/n said while trying to get away from the thing she fears the most.
Out of nowhere, a car got inside the cavern. Y/n didn't know what to do.
"C'mon!" Ron said
They ran to the car and were able to close the doors on time.
The car starts driving itself, but the spiders still were after them.
"I want my mummy...." Y/n whispered again.
She was able to see them on her window trying to break in.
"I swear to Merlin that when Hagrid comes back from Azkaban, I will kill him!" She says loudly
"Oh, my God!" Ron screamed
One spider broke the window by her side making the girl let out a loud scream of terror.
Thankfully, the car opened the door and the spider went flying back.
The car stops in front of Hagrid's house and the students from Hogwarts were quick to get out. After that, they watched as it drove away.
"Why do weird things only happen to us?" She asked completely defeated

Completely drained by their activities, the three friends walked towards their common room. They stopped when a body was being carried to Hospital Wing.
Y/n knew that person like the back of her hand. She shared a room with her.
"It's Hermione." Harry recognized
The Wintergreen was in shock. It was her best friend.
"We have to help her." The girl said. Her emotions taking the best of her.
"We will."
Y/n saw that her friend carried a mirror in one hand and a book in the other.
That book, she knows that book. She has seen it so many times in her own house. It was green, a dark green. It has the same big and carefully letters as the one from home. But the thing that didn't escaped her eyes was the symbol. Her family's symbol.
It was a W that had what seemed like a snake around it.
Y/n knows what that books has. She has watched as her mother looked at it countless of times.
It was the same book that was put on her mother's office on the highest bookshelf.
'The Wintergreen Family' that was its title. It was her family tree. All the people who belonged to her family had their name in there.
It made sense to her to look at it after the weird experience she had with Harry. But Hermione didn't know that. So, why did it crossed her mind to have a look at it?
She was so lost in her own thoughts that she didn't saw when Harry ran to pick the paper that Hermione dropped.
"With the many fearsome beasts that roam our land none is more deadly than the basilisk," Harry started to read "Capable of living for hundreds of years, instant death awaits any who meet this giant serpent's eye. Spiders flee before it."
It was a basilisk.
"This is the monster, that's why me and Y/n can hear it........it's a snake."
"But if it kills by looking people in the eye, why is it that no one's dead?" Asked Ron
Silence took over them. Ron made a point, how did they all survived?
Different theories came into Y/n's mind, that was until she remembered what was on Hermione's hand.
"Because they didn't look directly at it."
"What?" They both looked at her
"Think with me, Colin had his camera with him, he probably saw the basilisk through it. Justin.....," She trailed off trying to think how he saw the basilisk "Justin must have seen the Basilisk through Nearly headless Nick. Nick looked at her but he is a ghost, he couldn't die again."
"And Hermione saw it through her mirror." Harry concluded finally getting her point.
"What about Mrs. Norris? I'm pretty sure she didn't have a camera or a mirror." Ron asked
Y/n didn't had an explanation to that.
"The water on the floor! She only saw the Basilisk's reflection!" Harry said.
Something came to Y/n's mind.
"But if the basilisk was walking around.......someone would have seen it." She said
"Exactly." Ron agreed
Harry looked down at the paper in his hands.
"Hermione answered that too." He said "Pipes."
"But where do we look?" The red-haired asked
Their conversation was interrupted by Professor McGonagall's voice.
"Students are to return to their house dormitories at once." She said "All teachers to the second floor corridor immediately."
They just looked at each other before running to the second floor corridor.
They saw all the teachers looking at the wall in front of them.
"As you can see the heir of Slytherin has left another message. Our worst fear became reality, one of our students has been taken by the monster into the Chamber itself." Professor McGonagall said "Students must be sent home, I'm afraid this is the end of Hogwarts."
Lockhart arrived.
"Sorry, I'm late. What did I miss?" He asked
Your dignity, Y/n thought.
"One student has been snatched by the Monster Lockhart, your moment has come at last." Snape said
"My moment?" He asked
"Didn't you say the other night that you knew the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets all along?" Snape asked
"With that settled, we'll leave you to deal with the monster, Gilderoy." McGonagall said
His face was priceless.
"Very well, I'll just be in my office getting ready." After a moment of hesitation, he finally answered.
He got away from them.
"Who is it that the monster took, Minerva?" Madam Promfrey asked
"Ginny Weasley."
Y/n looked at Ron with an apologetic look. She put her hand on his shoulder for some type of encouragement.
She could never feel the pain that he's feeling. After all, she doesn't have any sisters or brothers...
"What are we going to do now?" Harry asked
"We need to help Lockhart."
Let's just hope that Ginny is fine.
