During this year, Jade and Frela continued on their iron man suit. Jade also worked a lot on Jarvis on her own, trying to perfect him. They don't have a lot yet, but the helmet is completely finished. They also have the lower arm and lower leg parts done, but they don't have a function yet, at least not electronic.
Jade also has been looking out for the girl she gets to see more of in the media. Whenever she shows up, the media is quick to report on it, but they don't find any new information on her. They don't know her name, where she lives, or in general anything about her, except that she was involved in the first major attack in the region since the war has ended.
The helmet with Jarvis always stays on, looking for more information about her, when there is, he shows Jade and Frela if she's there too. Samantha doesn't allow Jade to take the helmet somewhere, as she doesn't want to be robbed of something both girls worked so hard on.
Something what Jade also made was a stand to put the helmet on to charge it. The battery could last 3 days on average without a charge, which is a good amount if you realize how much the helmet, and especially Jarvis can do. Because Jarvis is now always on, he got the chance to develop a personality and does things on his own without Jade asking, but when he does, he lets Jade know to be sure it's okay with her. Jarvis is nice and helpful, extremely intelligent but not to brag about it, he mostly is like the Jarvis Tony has in the movies.
It's the 1st of august 2057 now, summer holiday for the girls. They're in Jade's room again, working on the lower limb parts of the suit. Frela on the shaping, design and color, Jade on any functionality, electric or mechanical. "Look what I did", Jade says while holding the right arm part. Frela looks at her friend "Show me". Jade presses a button on the underside and a knife blade comes out of the top pointed forward, with it having a length of 25 cm (~10 inch). "Cool right?", she says. Frela nods in agreement "Yeah it's cool, but do you really think your mom would allow that?". "She might, because of the many attacks recently she's quite worried, and well, I am too, that's why I put it in in the first place", Jade replies as she thinks about the dozen attacks which happened in the region the past months. Frela nods and shudders "Yeah it's scary, and the police still doesn't know who're doing it". "We'll be okay, Jarvis, do you have any idea who's behind the attacks?". Jade says as she turns to the helmet. "I do not", Jarvis replies "There is also no straight connection between the attacks, except that they were all drug cartels". Jade nods and turns back to Frela "See, we're not even remotely connected to that drug thing, so I'm sure we're fine". Jade's best friend nods "I guess you're right smarty".
Jade giggles "Still calling me that huh?". "Of course, we all know how smart you are", Frela says with a smile. Jade grins "We both know who the smartest in the room is". "Yeah, you of course", Frela says while giggling. Jade laughs "Not me, Jarvis is the smartest". The black haired girl laughs "He's a robot, that's cheating". "I agree with Frela, it is cheating for a machine", Jarvis says. "Yeah okay", the blond girl says. Frela puts a hand on her bestie's shoulder "You can't deny you're smart, you make a person by just typing, I doubt many people can say the same". "I am not a person", Jarvis then says, "I am an AI, Artificial Intelligence". "We see you as a person, even if you don't look like us. Right Frela?", Jade says happily. Frela quickly nods in agreement "And not just a person Jarvis, you're a good friend".
"Thank you girls", Jarvis says a few seconds later, "I see you as friends too". Both girls smile at the helmet, knowing Jarvis can see them. "You are very nice girls, especially to what I see on the internet at times", Jarvis says to them. "If someone's nice to you, you should be nice to them, that's what my parents taught me", Frela says. "Mine did too, even if that someone is a robot you created", Jade says with a giggle.
At that moment, Samantha walks in with a snack and drinks for the girls. Jade quickly presses a button on the arm part so the knife goes back in its place "Hey mom". "Hey girls, how's it going with your project?", her mom says as she puts the snacks and drinks on the desk. "Good, helmet is done and we're working on the lower arm and leg parts now", Frela informs the woman. Samantha smiles in response "Going good then I hear". "Yep", Jade says "We'll try to make everything adjustable too, so it could fit you too". Sam ruffles Jade's hair "How about you 2 first make it all for yourself, worry about others later". "Okay mom", Jade replies. Samantha then looks at the helmet "Hey Jarvis". "Hello Samantha", Jarvis replies. "How are you?", the adult woman asks. "Insert generic response of being well", Jarvis replies in a robotic voice. They all laugh and Samantha says "Really Jarvis? I know you're a robot and all but come on, I'm sure you could think of a better joke". "I made you laugh", Jarvis says with his normal voice again. "Yeah you have a point", Sam chucklily replies.
Jade looks at her mom "When will dad have a break again? He's gone so much". "Soon sweetheart, trust me", her mom replies as she smiles at her daughter. The blond girl hugs her "I also want him to stop lying". Frela just looks at them, not knowing what's going on, she knows Jade's dad works a lot and barely has breaks, but this is the first time she hears about the lying.
"Lying? Lying about what?", the blond woman asks. "About the girl, the one everyone knows about but no one knows who she is", Jade replies. "The girl from the news? The one with dark and blond hair? The one you're kind of obsessed by?", Samantha asks her daughter, knowing Jade is quite obsessed with finding out who she is. The daughter just nods without saying a word. "Dad doesn't know, I'm pretty sure he told you when she was ready, she left and he never saw her again", Sam says. Jade sits on her bed and looks down "I just feel like he's lying... he told me 2 different things...". Her mom sits down next to her "You should let it rest Jade, you're thinking too much about it". The young girl sighs and then nods in agreement "Yeah... I guess you're right mom...". Samantha kisses her head "Good, enjoy your snacks and drinks, I'll leave you both to it", she says as she gets up. Both girls nod. "Thanks for the snacks and all", Frela says with a smile. "You're welcome, have fun", Samantha says before walking out.
Jade lays down on her bed and stares at the ceiling, thinking of what her mother just said. Frela looks worried at her friend, but isn't sure on what to do. "You think I'm obsessed with it?", Jade asks, still staring at the ceiling. Frela thinks for a bit before answering "I know you really want answers, but I think your mom's right, you should let it rest". Jade just nods "And your thoughts Jarvis?". "If I look at the definition of obsessed, ..., then I think what you have fits in there", Jarvis says, trying to be honest. The young blond girl feels hurt by this, but she knows Jarvis doesn't mean to hurt her, so she just keeps quiet. The black haired girl sits at the desk and whispers to the helmet "I'm worried about her, do you know anything to cheer her up with, not related to that girl". "I will try, give me a minute", Jarvis replies in a whispery, lower volume voice. Frela nods and looks at her best friend "Don't want the snacks?". Jade sighs "Not now, maybe later". "Okay", Frela replies while looking hopeful at the helmet, hoping Jarvis can come up with something fast. The helmet's projector projects something on the wall beside Jade's bed.
Jade looks at the projection, and it's a scene from the first Iron Man movie. It's the scene of Iron man's first fight in the suit in the middle east, to save the civilians. Frela smiles knowing Jarvis found something she likes.
"This whole project started because of this movie", Jarvis says. Jade nods "Yeah, but I have to be honest". Jarvis pauses the projection "Honest about what?". Jade sits up and smiles at the helmet "I don't care if we finish the suit or not, I think we have all we need". Jade's dark skinned friend nods, knowing what Jade means. Jarvis however, doesn't understand and asks "What do you mean by that?". "She means you Jarvis", Frela says as she looks at her friend "Right?". Jade nods in agreement "You're much better and helpful than I could ever imagine". "I am doing my best", Jarvis says in response while he stops the projection.
"Just don't turn into Ultron", Frela says with a giggle. She isn't allowed to see the movies yet, but Jade has told her a lot about them. "I certainly will not, I do not wish anyone harm", Jarvis says while he looks up everything he can find on Ultron. Both girls smile. "Good", Jade says "Else I would've made a mistake somewhere with your coding".
The black haired girl looks at her friend "Now ready for your drink and snack?". "Yep", Jade says as she jumps up and walks over to the desk. Frela smiles as her best friend sits down next to her and eats her snacks.
After a few minutes of silence, Jarvis asks something "Do you think I could be controlling your whole suit when it's done?". Jade nods as she swallows the last bite "Yeah of course, I'll prepare you for it, else you can still be in the helmet, which is still great". "I'll do my best to hide all the wires in the suit, I know there'll be a lot", Frela says to follow up on Jade. "Okay, and can I ask you another question Jade?", Jarvis asks. Jade takes a sip of her drink before replying "Sure". "Why are you not in university yet? With your intelligence you would already have a degree, even by just showing me", Jarvis asks his young blond creator. Jade looks surprised at the helmet not really knowing what to say. Frela on the other hand nods in agreement "He has a point Jade".
Jade thinks for a bit before replying "I've read a lot of things about very smart people who'd go to university while they're very young". "I will look that up", Jarvis says. "What did you find?", Frela asks her best friend. "They would get very sad and behind on other people, they won't get far by just being smart, but they should also be good at presenting and talking to other people", Jade says. "I can confirm", Jarvis says as he projects some articles on the desk showing that just being smart won't get you far in society. Frela nods "Yeah Jade, you're not really a people person". "Not at all", Jade says with a soft giggle "The only people I really talk to are in this room and my parents then". Jarvis turns off the projector as he says "I am not a person, but you seem comfortable talking with me". Both girls laugh and Jade says "Well Jarvis, I made you, and you help me too". "How do I help?", Jarvis asks. "With talking, I'm really just talking to a machine here", Jade says with a giggle "You are and will probably be for a long time the strangest one I've talked to, and it helps me". "I'm glad I can help you", Jarvis says before asking "Do I help you Frela?". Frela thinks for a bit before answering "Yeah you do, with picking colors, and drawings, and all things like that". "Good to know", Jarvis replies.
"We should continue on the armor", Jade says. Her black haired friend nods in agreement and they continue on their project with Jarvis' help.
