No one's POV

Crisp air filled the very penthouse that Haewon used to live in. A wave of painful memories hit her as she looked at every piece of furniture that held a memory.

She remembered how she first held Hajoon when he was but a small infant and she remembered when he first walked. Those memories seem to no longer bring her pain. It had been a year since her son died and at the same time, she had to go through brutal divorce trials.

Looking at the penthouse she used to live in was something she had never thought of doing ever since Hajoon died, but time seemed to change her mind. Coming back was the poetic end to her fever dream like life with Eunwoo.

As if on cue she heard foot steps behind her revealing Eunwoo with a tired look on his face. His hair had grown long and disheveled. Stubble lined his jawline making it look less sharp. A longing look on his eyes as he looked at Haewon while holding a familiar piece of paper.

Haewon's face was unreadable as she looked at Eunwoo. Maybe it was because she wanted to be enigmatic in front of him, after all, she wants to wash her hands clean of any affection for the man.

She stared him down, saying, "I don't have all day, I'm sure you have a pen on you, sign the papers Eunwoo."

The man shook his head, unable to let go of the striking woman before him. Not much has changed about Haewon's appearance. She still had her long raven black hair and her pale skin. But Eunwoo knew there was something different about her, she looked like she was more comfortable with herself.

He could tell that she was, in a way, at peace but there was clear pain that riddled her features. Eunwoo knew he messed up, this amazing woman cared for him and damn all the money in the world, he would give anything to get her back.

Eunwoo found himself kneeling in front of Haewon, begging her, "Haewon, please, don't make me sign this, I'll do anything to make it up to you."

Haewon could smell that he reeked of alcohol. She hated it but she kept her cool as she said, "There is nothing you can do that will salvage our relationship, you used me, the very thing I wished you wouldn't do but you did it anyways."

Eunwoo began to sob uncontrollably but Haewon continued to speak, "Even if you do find a way to make it up to me, which I highly doubt will ever happen, you're never going to make me happy, I'll never be happy with you."

He harshly wiped away his tears and asked, "You're saying that because you still love Jungkook, don't you?"

Haewon sighed in disappointment and berated the sobbing man, "You still don't get it do you? I want a divorce because you messed up Eunwoo! You messed up! You're a slave to money and your parent's expectations."

"What, Haewon please-," Eunwoo begged but she interrupted him, "Oh please, stop trying to make excuses, jist sign the damn papers Eunwoo, I'm asking you one simple thing and yet you can't do it."

Eunwoo stood up and looked at her with complete anguish as he said, "It's not simple Haewon, what you're asking me to do is not simple at all."

She raised her brow at his claim and asked, "Go on then, tell me why it isn't simple, I mean what's the point of having divorce trials if it's still not going to be simple when you just have to sign the papers.....go on then, I'll humor you."

Eunwoo couldn't help but gently touch her arm and say, "It's because I love you Haewon, I do, I can't just let you go, I know we can work through this, you and me, we're meant to work through this together."

To Eunwoo's surprise, Haewon doubled over in laughter making him ask, "What's so funny? I was being sincere Haewon, don't you believe me?"

Haewon couldn't help but give it to straight to him, "What you said was some textbook bullsh*t, love me? Ha! I'm going to need an explanation Eunwoo because honestly, all I hear are lies."

Eunwoo quickly answered, "I love you because you're beautiful, your beautiful like a flower-"

"Let me stop you there Eunwoo," Haewon, "That is so shallow, if love was based on beauty then I'd have multiple lovers by now, you don't love me."

"You can't say that I don't," Eunwoo reasoned and she replied, "Then if you love me, you'll let me go, if you love me, then you know that I'm no longer happy with you anymore."

"But we can try-," Eunwoo pleaded but Haewon shook her head in disagreement.

"What's the point of trying something that will never work," Haewon pointed out and it struck a nerve in Eunwoo. A scowl formed on his face as he said, "You wish I was the one who died, don't you, you wished I had died and Hajoon had lived."

"You know what I wish? I wish for you to shut up and sign those damn papers!," Haewon finally yelled, unable to keep her cool anymore, "If you asked me a year ago, I would've told you that I wanted you dead and for Hajoon to live but I have healed from that wound already and I'm not planning on getting new wounds because of your selfishness."

"I'll sign the papers if you answer me honestly, did you really ever love me or were you too afraid to admit that your heart has always been in a different place?," Eunwoo honestly asks, his eyes glassy with tears.

"I guess my heart was in a diferent place but, I was a coward, I didn't act on it and maybe if I was just brave enough to damn the whole world because I loved him, then maybe we wouldn't be here, hurting and suffering from our mistakes," Haewon truthfully answered, though she took on a calm voice, the look on her face betrayed her demeanor.

Eunwoo's eyes softened as he looked at her. He finally realized that even if they stayed married, Haewon would never really be his. His heart stung because he knew who this him was. This him was her great love.

Haewon and this him were the great love story. Eunwoo thought that Jungkook and Haewon's story had ended when Haewon became his wife but he was wrong. Their story was just beginning and he had to let it happen.

Despite his initial hesitation, he signed the paper and handed them to Haewon. She sighed in relief then said, "Thank you.....the papers on the dissolvement of our companies' partnership have been finalized."

Eunwoo nodded and watched as the best woman who had ever walked into his life, saunter away from him, not even sparing a glance towards him.

The past year has been relatively normal to Lisa. In honesty, it was as normal as she let on. She knew that Jungkook had always been slipping from her fingers.

Even when they were only married for a few weeks, he had always been distant. He was always drowning himself in work as an excuse to be by himself and away from her, even if he would never admit that to her.

Lisa loved him but she was unhappy. There is only so much love a person can give and it starts to hurt. She thought she could survive this clearly one-sided relationship but it was slowly eating her away inside.

She loved him but she wanted to be loved too and she has now accepted that it will never happen with Jungkook. She's been dreading about this for quite some time but frankly Lisa is already tired.

She's tired of putting up with this pointless marriage. Jungkook and her were having dinner at home as of the moment and he was lazily eating the Soft Tofu stew, clearly tired from the mountain of paperwork he had assigned himself to.

Lisa cleared her throat and Jungkook looked at her tentatively, saying, "Something wrong?"

Lisa sighed and said, "You look miserable."

Jungkook laughed wryly then said, "Most of the people in the world are miserable, it's normal to be miserable at this point."

Lisa sighed, unsure of what rebuttal to give so she decided to get straight to the point. She took out stapled papers from her bag that was at her feet and handed it to Jungkook.

His eyes widened at the sight but she spoke first before he could, "Frankly our marriage is not only leading to your unhappiness but also to mine, I keep asking myself before as to why it wouldn't work."

"Lisa-," Jungkook said to reach out to her but she said, "Please, let me say my piece."

He nodded and Lisa continued to speak, "I kept asking myself why it wouldn't work, all I've done was try to be a good wife to you. I even let you help Haewon in her research for her dying son because I know it would help you feel better.....but you barely even look at me."

"I feel like I'm just a placeholder rather than your wife, I feel unappreciated and I feel inadequate," Lisa said as she fought back her tears, "I want you to look at me like the way you look at her but obviously that's never going to happen because I'm not Kyong Haewon, I'm just Lisa, the girl you were compelled to marry because the love of your life was married to someone else."

"I don't want to keep you bound to me anymore Jungkook," Lisa said as she shakily handed him a pen, "I am tired of being second best in your life, you don't even have to say it, it's clear that till your last breath, you're going to love her with all you've got."

Jungkook couldn't help but feel bewildered that Lisa handed him divorce papers. He wasn't sure what to think, Lisa was right in what she has said but right now he saw hee in a different light.

He used to think of her as selfish but now that wasn't the case. He saw her as just a woman who wants a husband to love her. She just wanted to be loved and even if he tried to love her, it would be out of pity and it wouldn't be the love that she deserved.

Every person deserved to be given love, Lisa was not an exception. She noticed his hesitance so she said, "Jungkook, just sign the papers."

Jungkook was still hesitating so she said, "If you can't find the courage to do it then perhaps this could be the one last thing you could give to me as your wife."

Lisa stood up from her seat in the dining table and said, "I'll go for a night drive and I better come home to signed papers and you out of this place because you're finally going to get your girl."

"Lisa I-," Jungkook said, unable to form words. Lisa sighed and said, "You've always been hers, and she's always been yours, your hearts always burned for one another, longed for one another, so I'm setting you free, to finally go to her arms, where you've always belonged."

Jungkook stood up from his seat and without hesitation, wrapped Lisa in a warm embrace. Lisa couldn't help but lean in to his embrace, after all, she still loved the man and she knew damn well that letting him go was going to hurt like a b*tch.

Jungkook then softly said to her, "Thank you Lisa.......I'm sorry I never got to be the man you wanted me to be, I'm sorry that I wasn't enough." The tears that Lisa fought so hard to keep at bay finally fell as she said, "You were always more than enough and you will always be more than enough Jeon Jungkook, the only problem is, you weren't meant for me, you're meant for her."

Lisa reluctantly let go and left the apartment her and Jungkook shared, hoping to wash away the sadness by driving through the night.

Jungkook looked at the divorce papers and hastily took the pen.

That night, papers were signed and people were set free.
