(🐾) stay gold '—ˎ

background (childhood) : she lived in japan for practically her whole childhood. she was a quiet girl, someone who preferred to stay inside, reading books, coloring, playing, anything a typical young girl would do. when she was five, tragedy struck and she was hit by a car. the accident caused severe damage to her optic nerves in both eyes. a surgery was quickly undertaken in order to try and repair the damage, but nothing could be done and the nerves were both cut in order to prevent further complications, resulting in complete blindness. her friends at school stopped playing with her, kids in her neighborhood whispered about her and left her out of things. school work became nearly impossible, and she couldn't get anything done. her parents quickly transferred her to a school made especially for the blind, and there she started to thrive. she found friends, other blind kids at her school, she learned braille, her teachers were kind and understanding, they knew how to work with her, and school work became easier.

background (teenage) : still at the same school, she kept her grades up, usually top of her class. due to her quiet and introverted personality, she tended to have just a few friends, though they were very close. she even found friends outside of school, other kids who didn't mind her physical disability. her shyness showed through in everything she did, she didn't talk much, she kept to herself, and she was almost always home. everything changed though when her parents decided to move to america when she was fifteen. she knew barely any english, but her parents were luckily more fluent. moving was hard, she was thrown into someplace new, a place she didn't know, and she was forced to a new school for the blind, to find new friends, to relearn the layout of their house, the paths to and from places, and more. despite all that, her grades never faltered and neither did her mood. she managed to stay optimistic and bright, even though things were hard.  she even started volunteering at a local library, wherein the librarians absolutely loved her. in order to help her in her new surroundings, her parents got her a guide dog a few months after moving. it was a golden retriever, and hanako promptly named her lucy, and they became practically best friends.

background (adult) : even though she turned 18, usually when people moved out, she stayed at home, relying on help from her parents. living on her own would have been difficult, and finding a roommate who would be able to help her with all her needs would have been even more difficult. she continued to volunteer at the library when she could, and went into a special education degree. she simply took this pathway for something to fall back on, she wasn't serious about getting a job teaching the blind. she took a few courses at harper college before transferring to the university of chicago, finally moving out of her parents home at 21. she found a roommate, a nice girl who was willing to room with her, a rare find indeed. she finished school with a bachelors degree, and moved back to live near her parents, confident enough to live in a small apartment on her own. she still relied heavily on her parents and close friends, but she managed. at 24, her guide dog lucy retired, though she kept her around, even after getting a new guide dog, a border collie that she named ryoko.

family :
mother : nakamura aiko, first of two, stay at home mother, alive
father : nakamura jiro, only child, japanese college professor, alive
brother : nakamura genki, second of two, student; studying to become an architect, alive

(🐾) intro : calling '—ˎ

personality :
quiet : she doesn't talk much, and when she does, it's like a whisper. people often have to tell her to speak up because they can't hear her.

kind : she does not have a single mean cell in her body. the girl wouldn't even hurt a fly.

reserved/introverted : hanako keeps to herself, and she likes it that way. friday nights, you'll find her at home, by herself. parties are a no, big groups of people are a no, she just is content to be by herself.

soft : picture a soft girl, and you've got hanako. ya know?

empathetic : she's like an expert in feelings, she somehow knows how you feel and knows how to comfort you. it just comes naturally.

honest : she would never tell a lie. well, maybe a small white lie here and there, but over all, she's rather honest. not telling the truth incites a guilt that she doesn't like to live with.

people pleaser : hanako struggles a lot with this. she often forces herself to do and say things she doesn't to, just to keep people happy. she's terrified that people will not like her.

amiable : despite her introverted nature, she is actually quite friendly, you just have to be the one to start the conversation.

tends to mirror personalities : it's a subtle change, but noticeable. when around people who are loud, she comes out of her shell more and is a bit louder, when around people who are quieter, she reverts back to her quiet nature.

(🐾) lights '—ˎ

likes : reading, staying inside, flowers/plants, libraries, dogs, warm weather, music, japanese food, taking walks, touching things

dislikes : loud noises, conflict, thunder, new places, rude people, slimy things, hotdogs, strawberry milk, opera

fears : disappointing others, agoraphobia (fear of open spaces or crowds), necrophobia (fear of death)

allergies : none

hobbies : reading, volunteering at the library,

habits : touching things (gives her a sense of where she is), taking a while to eat, speaking too quietly

trivia :
there's a room in her parents house that they've filled with books for her and when she moves out, she creates a similar room in her apartment

she's never had a solid, real relationship. all of her past ones have never lasted long

at six, she got lost in a large mall for three hours

her other senses are quite heightened, she can differentiate between voices, hear more than the average person, differentiate between lots of smells, and she relies on her above average sense of touch

at 18, she was mugged and came home with a black eye, a bloody nose, and a busted lip. the attacker was never found.

she knows how to play the piano, but her skills are pretty below average

(🐾) outro : the journey '—ˎ

faceclaim : abe haruno from nature & kaya kikuma

theme song(s) : INTRO by D1CE, flowering by lucy, INTRO : Calling and your eyes tell by bts (really just the whole album)
