The week seemed to drag on forever. the weekend wasn't any better. but finally, after what felt like forever, monday finally arrived. I woke up extra early today so I could pack all my things. I said bye to my sister and started walking to my school. while I was walking somebody whizzed by me on a bike and then halted to a stop. confused, I stopped walking. I looked closer and saw it was Shoyo. my eyes widened when I realized it was him.
"cannibal san?" he was bent over catching his breath, and I was trying to figure out why he was here. I walked over to him and handed him my water bottle. he took it and drank ALL of it. what the heck Shoyo, what am I supposed to drink now? when he had finally caught his breath he grabbed my shoulders and started yelling.
"Y/N CHAN!"
"HI? WHY ARE WE YELLING?"
"HEY DO YOU WANT TO RIDE MY BUS, WITH ME, LIKE TOGETHER?"
"WHAT?"
"DO YOU-"
"I HEARD YOU, BUT WHAT? HOW WOULD I EVEN GET PERMISSION FOR THAT"
"DO YOU THINK I'D RIDE MY BIKE ALL THE WAY OVER HERE IF I DIDN'T HAVE PERMISSION?"
"...NO?"
"SO LETS GO!"
"WAIT BUT MY TEAM-"
"JUST TEXT THEM"
"UhHh OKAY"
he made me get on his bike and I felt like I was going to explode. I was so close to him right now. In the movies this would usually be a whole romantic scene. like, the girl wraps her arm around his torso and rests her head on his shoulder. yeah, no. I had my hands on his shoulders and was sitting up straight trying not to move. for one, I was basically frozen in place because I was flustered. obviously Shoyo couldn't see that because he was focusing the other way. also, I was trying not to fall off the bike. I don't know what leg exercises he does but this bike was going faster than any bike ever. I would probably just die if I jumped off right now.
Y/N couldn't see that hinata was also very flustered. all she was doing was holding onto his shoulders, but she was so close. now, the difference between Y/N and hinata in this moment is that Y/N knows why she's flustered, hinata doesn't. just like Y/N, he's never had a crush before, so how was he really supposed to know? and he hadn't had anyone come to him and make him confront these feelings like Y/N did. if it weren't for aimi, Y/N would be just like hinata right now. and they would probably be dense dorks forever.
we arrived at his school in what seemed like no time. I still don't know how Shoyo got permission for this. oh, right. I pulled out my phone and texted my coach that I'd be taking a different ride to the training camp. I didn't give any details because I'm not sure how'd he react to me riding a rival schools bus. he said that he didn't care as long as I got there on time, and I assured him I would. now I was nervous, Shoyo was locking up his bike and I could see the bus. but my nervousness was replaced with excitement when Shoyo gave me a box of pocky. and it was (favorite flavor) too. I don't know how he remembered, but it made my heart flutter. we arrived at the bus area and there was a lot of tall scary looking men. this was my first time seeing them up close.
"hinata your girlfriends cute, good job!" I choked on the pocky stick that I was chewing and my face got extremely hot. this turned into me having a small coughing fit.
"tanaka!" some guy with brown hair bonked him on the head. he rubbed the back of his head and cowered away.
"s-she's not my girlfriend!" Shoyo finally said something. I don't know who he was telling that to, because this 'tanaka' already left. at this point I was still coughing, and some cute girl with blonde hair came up to me and handed me a water bottle. I thanked her and we were all instructed to get on the bus. me and hinata sat in the back of the bus next to tanaka and some other guy who hinata told me was name nishinoya. they seemed like a very chaotic duo, which is probably why the brown hair guy, who I found out was called daichi and was their team captain, forced them to sit in the back. they were both originally fighting on who was going to sit next to 'kiyoko', but daichi bonked them and sent them to the back. now they were just being loud and obnoxious about random things. I looked over to hinata and saw he was acting different than before. he was being pretty silent too. I think there's something bothering him.
"Shoyo," I tapped his shoulder. he looked over to me curiously.
"is something wrong?"
"uhm, not really.. I'm just nervous I guess"
"I'm sure you'll do great!"
"thank you y/n-chan" he smiled. I couldn't help but feel a bit upset, since hinata didn't look ay better. I didn't want him to feel nervous, but I don't know what to do to help him. maybe I could help to try and take his mind off it instead. that seems like a good idea.
"hey Shoyo"
"yeah?"
"do you have your phone?"
"yeah, it's right here, why?" he said pulling his phone out of his pocket. I grinned and pulled out my phone as well.
"lets play roblox" he smiled and agreed to play. we decided on playing tower of hell, and I couldn't help but feel a bit nostalgic. I'm pretty sure the last time I played this was around the time I first met Shoyo.

"sHoyo stop pushing me!" Y/N whisper shouted, not wanting to disturb others on the bus. though if she did raise her voice a bit, it's doubtful anyone would notice as everyone was lost in their own conversation or yelling already (cough nishinoya and tanaka). hinata chuckled at the girl and this made her heart flutter. why is his laugh so attractive? hinata explained to the girl that they had removed the feature where you can bump into each other in the game, so actually she was just falling. Y/n grabbed onto his shoulder and looked over at his phone.
"well then you teach me how to play!" now it was his turn to become flustered. he had butterflies in his stomach and his face got hot. Y/N was so close to him right now and she was touching him. but he still didn't really understand WHY he would only get feelings like this around Y/N. much too flustered to speak, he just nodded his head and the girl watched him play silently. she had slightly shifted positions, instead of holding onto his shoulder she was slightly leaning on it to get a better look at his screen. all hinata could think about was how close Y/N was. she smelled nice, like flowers. and her touch felt kind and gentle. he could feel her calm breathing the side of his face which gave him goosebumps. now Y/N, she wasn't fully aware what she was doing. at the time, she had honestly just wanted to watch him play. but now that's she's more aware, she realizes what situation she's put herself in. she's leaning over and his face is too close for comfort. she thought about kissing him, but immediatley pushed those thoughts away. she didn't want to be a pervert. but, when you're this close to your crushes face you can't help it. she tried to just focus on the game but she still felt her face getting hot and her heart rate speeding up. she just tried to calmly breathe and relax. tanaka and nishinoya had been watching this whole scene play out from when she had gotten upset with him for 'pushing her'. and they were quite confused, to say the least. nishinoya leaned over to tanaka and whispered
"are you sure they aren't dating?" tanaka shrugged. nishinoya thought he had whispered quiet enough, but he hadn't. hinata had heard what he said, Y/N hadn't though. she was quite lost in her own little world. hinata choked on saliva after hearing that and started coughing. Y/N, worried for her friend, quickly grabbed her water bottle and handed it to him.
"wait, you drank it all earlier!" the girl then looked over to tanaka and nishinoya and snatched one of their water bottles. she gave them a look that said 'sorry-not-sorry' and handed the water bottle to hinata.
"here, don't die" he took the water bottle and once again, drank the whole thing.
Y/N
tanaka pouted at the fact his water was gone, but quickly forgot about it when he realized we had arrived. me and Shoyo were the last to get off of the bus. I don't know what caused Shoyo to have that coughing fit, but I hope he's better now. I looked over to my side and he was gone. where could he of possibly gone? it's only been a few seconds and he's already disappeared.
"hey where's Shoyo?" I asked nobody in particular
"the bathroom I think" I wasn't paying attention so I didn't know who replied. did he get nervous again? well, we were in a bus for a while, and he drank two whole water bottles. we all went inside and me and yachi followed kiyoko to where the managers would be staying. once we reached the room I neatly put all my stuff in the corner and left to wander around. my team hadn't arrived yet so I didn't have much to do. I decided to try and find hinata and see if he had to do anything yet. I wandered around a while trying to find him and I heard some noise coming from one of the gyms. I opened the door slightly and looked in. inside was karasuno and another team. I scanned the room for hinata and I saw him. he had his shirt over his head and then he pulled it on. I immediatley closed the door and slapped my hand over my mouth. I felt my face get hot for what felt like the thousandth time today. I may be over reacting because I only saw him shirtless for a few seconds, but I don't really think so.
"y/n-chan, are you okay?" I looked over and saw oikawa. first, when did they get here? second, this is probably the most embarrassing thing that could possibly happen. okay, so I know that I make it seem like I barely know oikawa but I'm actually kind of close with him. I mean I've been friends with his sister for years, so it makes sense. it's just, he's.. well.. annoying. I like to pretend I barely know him from volleyball to make myself feel better. well, seeing oikawa made me temporarily forget what I'd just seen and I rolled my eyes.
"how many times have I told you not to call me that?"
"hmm, let me think." he said and made a very exaggerated thinking pose to mock me or something. I just rolled his eyes and he smirked at me.
"so, who is it?"
"huh?"
"who is it that you like?" I felt my face get hotter than before and froze. how did he even know? I only ever spoke about Shoyo to aimi, and she would never tell her brother anything like this. plus, if she told him, then he would know who it was.
"w-what? I don't like anyone" wow, what a convincing performance Y/N. I really like the part where I stuttered, I think that part was the most convincing. well, obviously he wasn't buying it. the look on his face showed this whole interaction was just boosting his ego. I just frowned and looked away from him.
"right, so who is it?" he had walked up next to me and looked into the gym through the window in the door.
"hmm.. is it," he scanned the room for someone I guess he'd assume was 'my type'. this whole thing was annoying and I wanted to leave. where is our team at? can't iwaizumi hurry up and save me already.
"uhhh.. akaashi?"
"I don't even know who that is"
"right, I forgot you haven't played against their team yet, so it's probably someone from karasuno" he looked over to see my reaction. I shifted uncomfortably at the fact he might actually guess who I like, if he guessed correctly I know I won't be able to hide it. and wouldn't that be just the greatest blackmail for him. I guess just me shifting was enough for him to confirm I liked someone from karasuno, and he just started naming everyone from the team.
"tobio-chan? nah, who would like him.. uhm.." I know who tobio is, Shoyo talks about him some times. what's oikawa got against him? I thought about it for a minute and remembered what he'd said at our first game against karasuno. 'childhood rivals' or something like this. I had zoned out by now, and oikawa was just naming all the team members and looking over to see my reaction. why does he even want to know so bad? who I like is none of his business. I was brought back to reality when I heard him ask 'chibi chan?'. is that supposed to be Shoyo? I decided to ask.
"who's chibi chan?"
"shoyo hinata" he replied and once again, looked over to see my reaction. I couldn't help it, but my face got hot again. great, just great. now he's definitely going to know. wait, maybe if I can form a sentence without stuttering, I can just blame it on the weather in here. yes, all I have to do is not stutter.
"no, I don't like him." yes! I did it! and it actually sounded quite convincing too. I was mentally praising myself but all my confidence was shattered.
"you totally do, he's the only one you actually tried to deny. plus, you're blushing."
"w-what!? no, it's just the weather!" great! there's the stupid stuttering. how obvious am I? curse you oikawa
"nice stutter y/n- chan"
"Shut up!" I wacked his arm
"oww!" he whined and rubbed his arm. it was then that our team came around the corner. finally, what took them so long? and of course they had to come right AFTER he had just figured out what was supposed to be my secret.
"oikawa, you better not be harassing l/n" iwaizumi spoke up
"I'm not! she's harassing me!" he whined and rubbed his arm some more, as if to exaggerate where I'd hit him.
"he is harassing me" I said and put on a dramatically sad face. iwaizumi walked up to oikawa, whacked him on the head, and dragged him away into the gym with the rest of the team following.
just great, what am I supposed to do now that OIKAWA of all people has found out?
