Alley

The top of the tank opened and I took off.

I sprinted out of the alley and switched out my gun for my buck hunting knife, my gun swinging onto my back by the strap.

Looking forward, I see Mr. Kentucky pop up through the top and whack the Walker on the tank with a metal shard, slicing its face wide open.

'Nice'

I reach the tank as he jumps down, landing weirdly and rolling to a stand, and we make a run for it.

He fires his pistol, taking out the walkers in our way as I push the ones to the side, burying my knife in the skulls of any that get too close.

Mr. Kentucky spares a glance at me before turning into the alley, spotting someone and raising his gun.

"Whoa! Not dead!" The guy - by his voice it was safe to assume this was the guy from the walkie - holds his hand up for a split second, before ushering us through the alley.

"Come on! Come on! Back here! Come on! Come on!"

We ran down the alley towards a ladder.

I got there first, so grabbed the rungs and began to climb as fast as I could.

"What are you doing?! Come on!"

I turned to see Mr. Kentucky turning and trying to shoot more walkers until he was grabbed and made to climb.

"Come on, get up!"

We all collectively climbed the ladder as quickly as we could, catching our breath on a walkway.

I hold onto the railing as I take in massive breaths, my heart feeling as if it were about to burst right out of my chest and down to the Walkers below.

I turn to look at the men, finding them doing the exact same.

The guy from the walkie-talkie was relatively tall, probably my height or more when stood straight. He had black hair and brown eyes, and looked Asian but I wasn't going to assume.

Not going to lie though, he looked like a Pokémon trainer with the cap and backpack.

Mr. Kentucky, however. He was sporting some sorta Sheriff cosplay, which actually looked good on him.

He was missing the hat though, which was a shame.

Brown hair and clear blue eyes, he seemed like the type of guy that was voted 'Best Looking' in high school.

That's what Americans do, right?

The guy from the alley was the first to break the silence.

"Nice moves there, Clint Eastwood. You the new sheriff come riding in to clean up the town?"

"It wasn't my intention." The Sheriff replies, leaning his forearms on the railing.

Pokémon trainer guy waves his hand at him and shakes his head.

"Yeah, whatever." He sighs, doing the same. "Yeehaw. You're still a dumbass."

"Rick. Thanks." The Sheriff guy - now known as Rick - holds his hand out for him to shake.

"Glenn. You're welcome."

They shake hands and Rick puts the Barretta in Glenn's backpack.

"What about you, Ma'am? What do they call you?" Rick nods his head towards me and I hold out my hand to shake.

"Megan, but Meg will do fine." He grabs my hand and gives it a sturdy shake. "I've never been a Ma'am type of woman."

Glenn nods his head as a greeting as he scoots around me to look down at the ladder, where a Walker was seemingly climbing the ladder.

"Oh no."

Nah, that can't be right. Those fuckers wouldn't know a brick from a bottle.

He turns to the yellow ladder behind us and takes a deep breath.

"The bright side: It'll be the fall that kills us. I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy."

Bear in mind, this ladder spanned from where we were stood on the walkway - which was probably like, 2nd or 3rd story height maybe - all the way to the top of the damn building.

With no safety covering.

"Yeah? Well, I'm a 'don't climb tall ass ladders that are 99% unsafe' kinda girl." I shudder, shielding my eyes from the sun's rays.

Sighing, I pat Glenn's shoulder as I go to climb.

"Come on then, Mr.Brightside. I'm about to take some major fall damage if I slip."

We very carefully climbed the ladder, which was hard to do since it was sunny as fuck and the higher we went the windier it became.

I should have put my hair up.

-----

"Remind me never to climb a yellow ladder to the top of a roof ever again."

We follow Glenn as he leads us over the roof.

Rick pipes up, looking back towards the street.

"Are you the one that barricaded the alley?"

Glenn looked towards him for a second before turning back and jumping over a pipe.

"Somebody did..." he takes off into a jog and we follow suit. "I guess when the city got overrun. Whoever did it was thinking not many geeks would get through."

"Back at the tank, why'd you stick your neck out for me?" Rick questions - again - as we make it to a trapdoor and Glenn pulls it open.

"Call it foolish, naïve hope that if I'm ever that far up shit creek, somebody might do the same for me."

He throws his backpack down the ladder and begins climbing down himself, stopping to look at Rick as he finishes his sentence.

"Guess I'm an even bigger dumbass than you."

I shake my head and laugh before beginning to climb down the ladder after him.

-----

We got down the ladder and made our way through the room quickly, not stopping for anything.

Glenn lead us outside to a metal staircase that went to the alley below and took out his Walkie-Talkie, practically running down them.

"I'm back. Got a couple of guests plus four geeks in the alley."

As he said it my walkie that was still on my belt replayed his words quietly, making me laugh lightly.

I forgot it was still on.

We go down another staircase to a door where two Walkers appear, noticing us instantly and turning our way. We all stop on the spot, me barely able to stand up straight as Rick knocks into me.

We had started to collectively slowly back up the staircase as two men come out with protective gear and baseball bats. They each go after one of the Walkers and bash their brains in.

'Sick'

We once again follow Glenn as he speeds down the stairs, jumps over the beaten walkers, and runs straight for the door.

"Let's go!"

We get through the door as one of the men in the gear yells to the other.

"Morales, let's go!"

They get one last hit on each Walker before turning and bucking it inside.

The door is closed in seconds and it finally feels like we can take a breath.

That is, before we get shoved back by an angry blonde woman who points her gun in Rick's face.

Well, at least she can't actually shoot him.
