"I'll get it!" I heard my mom holler from downstairs when the doorbell rang the next Saturday. I was in my room getting my finishing touches done.
"Jayson's here!" I heard her holler again and this time I shouted back,"I'll be down in a minute!"
I applied nude lipstick on my lips and smacked them together so that it is evenly spread and looked at my reflection in the mirror one last time. I was more than satisfied with my look and I can proudly say I looked beautiful. I was wearing a pink sequin dress that reached just above my knee. I paired it with my silver heels,a silver clutch and a small necklace.
Simple but elegant
Grabbing my purse,I rushed downstairs,carefully because I was in heels and I definitely did not want to fall or slip or twist my ankle or anything.
As I was descending the stairs,my boyfriend and my mother were staring at me. My mother was smiling, probably proud of the woman she had raised but Jayson had the most affectionate look on his face. His eyes were focused on just me,as if there was nothing or no one else in the room and it made me nervous and afraid that I would slip in front of him and embarrass myself so I averted my eyes from his gaze and made my way down in the most meticulous manner ever.
Jayson was in a casual tuxedo,and he looked dashing in it.
My knight in shining suit and tie
I stood by him and smiled and he smiled back at me
"Aww,you two look so adorable together", my mom gushed. "Pose,lemme take a picture"
We posed beside the staircase. Jayson put his arm around my waist and I grinned.
"Perfect!" She exclaimed after clicking the camera button. "Alright, Jayson, bring my daughter back home before midnight."
"Don't worry Mrs Summers"
"Great. Oh and Kayra,no drinking"
"Yes mom",I replied
As if I had even planned to
"Good." She walked with us outside before she said,"Have fun,you two" and went back in.
"Nice dress",he said when it was just the two of us.
"Thanks,nice tux",I giggled and he frowned but laughed too.
"So I see we're going with your car."
"Yup,a beautiful lady in a beautiful dress deserves a beautiful ride",I blushed.
"Well,let's get going then"
"Sure, we're going to pick Stephanie up right?"
"Yes,her house is not far from here"
"Cool"
He opened the car door for me and I said thank you before he jogged over to the driver's side.
Stephanie was ready and waiting for us. She looked stunning in her simple light blue dress and platforms.
She sat at the backseat and we,I mean Jayson,drove to the venue of the homecoming dance
Many other people were also arriving when we got there, which means we were not too late. There was a photo booth just at the entrance for couples who wanted to take their pictures taken.
I nudged Jayson and pointed to the photographers. He groaned, obviously taking pictures was not his thing but he agreed anyway.
We posed by the banner that had 'Homecoming' designed on it. When we were done,I noticed Stephanie a few feet away with her head down and playing with her fingers. She was sad and I know she felt left out since she had no date.
I skipped over to her and pulled her with me to the booth.
"Don't you wanna take a picture with your best friend?"
"Of course,and this is definitely going in the scrapbook",she giggled and we smiled for the camera.
When we finally went inside, the place was getting full. 'Love story' by Taylor Swift was playing and people were getting comfortable.
So I sneak out to the garden to see you

I sang and Stephanie sang along. It got to my favorite part and I got pumped

He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said,"Marry me Juliet, you'll never have to be alone
I love you and that's all I really know
I talked to your dad,go pick out a white dress
It's a love story,baby just say yes
Jayson was clearly annoyed I was singing loud but I didn't care. I was here to have fun.
"Um,I'm gonna go get a drink",he said to excuse himself
"Oh I'm thirsty too, I'll go with you"
"Then I'll just go look for some other friends so I'll see you guys around", Steph said
"Steph,you're ditching me?"I feigned a gasp for dramatic effect
"Oh come on Kay, you have your boyfriend with you",she wiggled her eyebrows
"Alright bye",I pulled Jayson away before she said anything more and I heard her laugh.

The rest of the evening was filled with music, dancing, drinking,socializing and more dancing.
Sia's 'Cheap Thrills' started playing and many took to the dancefloor and screamed the lyrics out.
The football team came in with their captain in front and the whole school cheered for them,they won their game against our rival school. I spotted Gale but I ignored him and continued clapping for his other teammates.
Soon,it was time for the crowning of homecoming king and queen.
It went to Audrey and her date, Tristan.
Obviously, she would be homecoming queen. She's very very popular and good-looking too. And even though I find it hard to admit, her dress was beautiful and anyone would envy her
Anyone but me of course
My mind drifted back to Jayson's story and the fact that she did drugs and no one suspected. I pushed the thought out of mind and continued enjoying the dance.
After the crowning,there was more dancing. 'Shut Up and Dance' by Walk The Moon started playing and even those who hadn't moved their bodies at all since the dance began, started dancing.
"She said ooooh SHUT UP AND DANCE!" Everyone screamed and the floor was on fire.
A cooler song played after this one ended and a lot of people took their seats, including me. The adrenaline was too much and I needed to relax a bit,my feet were starting to hurt too.
Jayson was seated the whole time, occasionally bopping his head or tapping his feet and I'm guessing when I said everyone danced to 'Shut Up and Dance',he didn't.
"Don't you want to dance? Aren't you tired of sitting?" I asked him
"No I'm good here, dancing isn't my thing"
"Dancing isn't my thing either but look at me with sore feet",I joked."Jayson, you're not having any fun"
"Who said? Watching you unleash your dance skills is entertainment enough for me".
"Hey",I hit his arm playfully,"Don't laugh at my dance skills."
"Okay okay I'm sorry",he laughed. "I'll be right back,I need to use the restroom."
"Sure,take your time. I'll watch over your drink",I offered
"Nevermind,I won't drink anymore"
"Oh okay"
"You can go dance some more if you want"
"No, I'm done dancing. My feet are killing me"
"Sorry",he laughed at me and left.
I saw Stephanie on the dance floor busy boogieing. It's great that she has taken her mind off her thoughts and is having fun. I just hope she didn't bump into Gale.
Jayson wasn't back after some minutes and I felt like I needed some fresh air so I walked slowly and cautiously outside.
It had been more than five minutes and I still couldn't get enough of the cool breeze. I closed my eyes and said suddenly,someone turned me around and kissed me long and hard. I opened my eyes quickly but I couldn't see the person's face since my eyes were looking straight at his closed ones. He held my face with his hands so I couldn't break the kiss.
Before I could guess who it was,I heard a familiar voice mention my name
"Kayra"
I forcefully pulled away and looked in the direction of the voice.
"Jayson? Oh my God,then who...."
I turned quickly to meet a smirking face.
"What the fuck?! Gale, how dare you?"
I rushed to Jayson but he held his hand up,as if to say,don't come near me
"No, Jayson,it's not what you think"
He didn't mind me but walked straight towards Gale and slammed his clenched fist in his face.
Ouch
I felt a little pity for him, just a little because he deserved that punch.
"I don't care", he turned to me and said with a straight face. I knew there was an emotion hidden behind it, whether it was anger or hurt,I didn't know. Without another word,he walked away down the street, presumably to his car to go home.
Instead of chasing after him,I marched angrily to Gale who still had that triumphant look on his face
I slapped him,with every bit of energy left in me.
"You're disgusting", I spat out and ran after my boyfriend.

So Gale surprises everyone again. What is that dude's problem? Can't he just let Stephanie and Kayra be? Well,I guess that's Gale for us. I wonder what happens next 🤔🤔
