background (childhood) : his life leading up to the apocalypse was as normal as it could be. he had two loving parents who tried to shield him the best they could. things were growing hectic and they pulled him out of school to try to teach him at home, which went rather well. being a child, hyunbi didn't have a solid grasp on what was happening in the world, how everyone had fallen into a panic about an impending apocalypse. despite the imminent event, some people tried to continue to live their lives and others completely lost it while scientists frantically searched for a way to stop the apocalypse. hyunbi had a few close friends, ones he spent time with whenever he could. because he kept to himself, he spent countless hours drawing in his room, fine tuning his skills
background (teenage) : now older, hyunbi understood more about the world and it instilled a deep fear inside of him, one that would stick with him until he was older and had been on his own for a bit. when he was fourteen, a year before the apocalypse, his father lost his job and the family struggled. they somehow managed to hold on to their house, though food was sparse and looking back on these times, hyunbi is sure his parents stole in order to feed and clothe him, but that was what a lot of people were doing during this time. despite the obvious hardships, the family was close knit, they relied on each other and the love was strong. when the apocalypse came, hyunbi could sense the fear in his parents. they would stay up late each night to watch the news and began stocking up on supplies and trying to find somewhere to go. one day, the infected had fallen upon the area hyunbi lived in. they came in the night and the screams started, waking up almost everyone. without much time, the family grabbed what they could and ran out the door, trying to escape the undead coming their way. in the pure panic and hysteria that followed, hyunbi was separated from his parents and hasn't seen them since. he took what he had in his hands and fled from the city, now officially on his own. the first year was hard, there was a lot of crying and fear and stress, but he got into the groove of things and taught himself how to survive. he met many people along the way and had some jarring experiences, but he managed to steal and barter his way around in order to keep himself alive. whenever he found the materials, he'd continue to draw, leaving his drawings behind as he moved on. he'd often draw his parents from memory in order to attempt to not forget them completely

trust : wow, don't even get me started. he honestly trusts himself the most (but he can learn, don't worry, give him time) it takes a LONG time to earn his trust and if you earn it quickly, you better feel honored. once he completely trusts you, he'll trust you for life, he'll even put his life in your hands, though one wrong move and that trust will be snuffed out like a candle. his years out wandering have shown him that trusting people can get you hurt or even killed, so he's very selective and wary about the people he chooses to trust. if he comes to you first, feel honored.
instincts : this dude's like an animal, it's all about his instincts. if his gut is telling him something, he's likely to listen to it. it's one of the ways he's stayed alive for so long
wary : when encountering something new, hyunbi is very wary and cautious. he'll never do anything different and new without thinking about the possible danger in it
survival : he's all about survival. he's both defensive and offensive, using whatever tactics he needs in the moment. it's another one of the ways he's been able to keep himself alive

when he was on his own (age 15), he came across a group of people who had been recently infected. they planned to kill and eat him and hyunbi overheard this while he was staying with them. in the middle of the night, he hurriedly packed up his things, stole some stuff, and booked it out of there. he was on the run for two days straight, getting almost no sleep.

despite how much it hurts to think about them, hyunbi holds onto the dim hope that he'll see his parents again
